She's super cute! I didn't even know your sis was pregnant again. Congratulations!

Yeah second children are always less bigtime news I think. Thanks! Everyone's happy and healthy, she's just over a month old.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Monday, 20 August 2012 15:54 (eleven years ago) link

Awww. She's got your mouth.

Hey, CPL has is doing fines amnesty. I've had $40-some since 2006, but I've decided to still pay them. Or maybe make a donation if they are not accepting fines money.

Speaking of AMAZING BARGAINS, Macy's is fixing to put Charter Club down comforters on sale for 50% off, plus you can get another 25% off if you donate $5 to some charity. I think it starts next week, but P@ul@nn3 the bedding department lady told me that you can pre-purchase to lock in the sale price.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 20 August 2012 19:57 (eleven years ago) link

But don't buy duvet covers at Macy's because holy cannoli that shit is expensive.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 20 August 2012 19:57 (eleven years ago) link

How much are the down comforters?

Dan: http://www.towleroad.com/2012/08/duluth-minnesota-gets-first-gay-bar.html (though you probably already knew this).

It has a gay side and an American side

I SAID it has a gay side and an American side!

The king size was originally $400 something down to under $200 for the "level 4" weight, which is one under the heavy weight and what P@ul@nn3 recommended for a Chicago winter even in these warming times.

my team at work went on a field trip this morning. we went to the poetry foundation's library and then to the new library at u of c. we got to go underground and see the robot book cranes at u of c.

One of R's friends posted about it on fb this morning. I thought there already was a gay bar up there, but perhaps I was wrong. Or perhaps it was not as 'out'.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Monday, 20 August 2012 20:39 (eleven years ago) link

Sorry about that mess, Chicago thread.

Nick, were they awesome? I would love to see them.

Thx, Jenny. I can't see myself spending $200 on bedding, however lovely. I have a down comforter now that covers my queen size bed, but doesn't fill a duvet cover.... I wonder where it came from?? It seems like it's always been with me...

xp - there has been one in Superior, WI for 6 years. Same owners.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Monday, 20 August 2012 20:40 (eleven years ago) link

Well check your email bc I have an offer you cannot refuse.

Why is this happening to me? ??

Because you were using URL instead of IMG.

I am kind of shocked this is the first gay bar. Or even first out one. I thought Duluth was kind of hip?

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 20 August 2012 20:42 (eleven years ago) link

Ah yes, I was thinking of Soup-town. They're slightly interchangeable, there's only a bridge in between. A big bridge, mind you.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Monday, 20 August 2012 20:43 (eleven years ago) link

R now confirms that Superior has multiple gay bars.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Monday, 20 August 2012 20:44 (eleven years ago) link

You're right, ca. I get those BBCode Plus keyboard shortcuts mixed up.

xp Haha "R now confirms" -- Story developing.....

Alert: we are going to Craigslist a vintage Lane-brand cedar chest but I will give it to anybody reading this thread who is willing to come get it and carry it out of our house. I don't know the measurements off the top of my head, but it's sizable. It's a little beat up but it smells really good and it's in good condition for as old as it is.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 20 August 2012 21:22 (eleven years ago) link

I will post the measurements this weekend, or sooner if I remember.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Monday, 20 August 2012 21:23 (eleven years ago) link

got no room for a cedar chest :(

i'm not sure if anyone here is looking for a new job or wants to apply a job as "manager of web communications" but email me if you do

that's all

Anyone want a beer at the fountainhead after work tomorrow? I'll prob be there. https://www.facebook.com/events/441759285868858/

Jeff, Tuesday, 21 August 2012 00:22 (eleven years ago) link

What time? We have a staff outing tomorrow and I'll probably get home early.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 00:44 (eleven years ago) link

I'll go right after work, get there around 5:15ish.

Jeff, Tuesday, 21 August 2012 02:44 (eleven years ago) link

I should note it will be only me there. If you are looking to hang with Jenny or despise my company, then you are SOL.

Jeff, Tuesday, 21 August 2012 12:16 (eleven years ago) link

I may be in the area around that time...

There has got to be an appropriate ILX thread for this article, no? This thing is just crying out for group mockery. Electronic narcotis? BARF

20. Exposed bra straps have always been a fashion statement, not a wardrobe malfunction to be corrected quietly by well-meaning friends.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 17:46 (eleven years ago) link

I mean, I don't know any college freshman, it's true, but this list feels very essentializing and also seems to assume that Kids These Days (KIDZ DEEZ NUTZ amirite???) are all very stupid.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 17:47 (eleven years ago) link

why does that list have to make me feel old?

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 17:48 (eleven years ago) link

i deal with college freshmen all the time btw
they do not make me feel old, just different

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 17:49 (eleven years ago) link

TBF, the fact that this year's college freshmen were born the year I graduated college does make me feel a little old, but it's the same way hearing 80s songs played on "oldies" radio makes me feel old. It's a benign, "Holy shit, time really does pass and I'm not actually goign to be in my 20s forever!" kind of old feeling.

LL, I would like to know whether college freshman, in your experience, are unfamiliar with the Biblical origins of common phrases. I would also like to know if people born before 1994 all know that "the writing is on the wall" is from the book of Daniel.

ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 17:52 (eleven years ago) link

They are unfamiliar with a lot of things -- it's my job, at least in part, to help make them familiar and contextualize their unique life experiences within a greater cultural context.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 17:56 (eleven years ago) link

Not to be all serious, but right?

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 17:57 (eleven years ago) link

pretty much, imho

it's also up to them to want to learn things

DX Dx DX (dan m), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 17:59 (eleven years ago) link

xp Not to be all serious in response, but that's a beautiful way to describe what you do. I'm being sincere!

39. The Metropolitan Opera House in New York has always translated operas on seatback screens.

that article is stupid

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 18:04 (eleven years ago) link

Why did my coworker send it to me? WHY? I should be eating lunch or working or both. Instead I'm getting annoyed at MSNBC.

Bridgeview is a pretty heavily middle-eastern suburb. I've gotten directions from a local to "the best" restaurant in the area, but have never gone. Need to rectify that.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 18:26 (eleven years ago) link

I may head over to Fountainhead tonight too, depending on when i get off work, etc.

Great. You are a good person.

Jeff, Tuesday, 21 August 2012 19:22 (eleven years ago) link

what do you guys think a person could expect at a "fleetwood mac spaceship dance party"?!

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 19:31 (eleven years ago) link

I probably won't be going to fountainhead because that's around when I have to pick up Evie. I'd go now though.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 19:40 (eleven years ago) link

Or maybe I'll bring Evie there.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 19:41 (eleven years ago) link

You should bring her. Evie likes the Fountainhead.
