i think this one turned out really nicely even though it's all old tracks. the good news is 90% of californian EDM fans have never heard of any of this stuff. it took me so fucking long to learn how to mix that 2562 track. edb and durr and ronan if youre there let me know what you think.

I got u, bro.

formerly EDB (ed.b), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 11:03 (eleven years ago) link

Good stuff indeed, Especially the second half. Tracklisting and order is pretty much ace. My main complaints would be that one of my mixing pet peeves is when people mix something out, and then bring it back in later, but your mileage may vary. Generally good use of spinbacks, but I think there was one or two times where it might have been a bit early and kind of awkward as a result.

What's the addison groove-esque Freak Nasty sampling track, by the way?

formerly EDB (ed.b), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 12:14 (eleven years ago) link

will check this out...

Know how Roo feel (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 12:38 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i think that was my least favorite part. i am doing too many spinbacks but since i basically just figured it out it's just too tempting.

freak nasty sampling track? where's that?

the late great, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 16:07 (eleven years ago) link

Err, maybe it's another 2 Live Crew MC? it the one near the end with the slightly pitched up loop going "'cause those girls make me so horny"

jon convex "pop that p" on nakedlunch

the late great, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 16:21 (eleven years ago) link

i started out listening to claude young, jeff mills and theo parrish so i have a tendency to overdo it

the late great, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 16:22 (eleven years ago) link

hey what's the WORST spinback EDB? i'm curious what i should avoid doing ...

the late great, Tuesday, 28 August 2012 18:37 (eleven years ago) link

From memory and having just checked it, it's primarily the "R House" spinback, since it kind of comes out of nowhere and is a bit quick (it feels a bit incomplete compared to a more full, bar length spinback). It sounds like the track had a bit more groove left before being pulled out is all.

formerly EDB (ed.b), Tuesday, 28 August 2012 22:23 (eleven years ago) link

so ... i have to give a 30 minute demo to a dude who runs a night of dubstep, jungle and moombahton. i was like "well i do techno" and he was like "well we like techno too as long as its like CRAZY DUDE"

here's what i came up with

listening now, looks like my thing all the way.

what do you use to do your mixes, dominique?

40oz of tears (Jordan), Thursday, 6 September 2012 17:51 (eleven years ago) link

this one was done on my old laptop, which has a program called atomix. I believe this was the precursor to what is now virtual DJ. funny enough, atomix cost me $90 when I got it, but virtual dj (a program w/a lot more features, and similar to traktor) is free!

Dominique, Thursday, 6 September 2012 18:22 (eleven years ago) link

yeah it has a siren now

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 6 September 2012 18:24 (eleven years ago) link

your mix is great so far but it's def missing siren

puff puff post (uh oh I'm having a fantasy), Thursday, 6 September 2012 18:24 (eleven years ago) link

damn what are the odds one of those jdilla tracks wouldn't deliver?

Dominique, Thursday, 6 September 2012 18:26 (eleven years ago) link

Why VirtualDJ ?
don't make the wrong choice
In the past few years, the DJing industry has seen computer DJing becomes the de-facto standard.
With Technics having closed its turntable division, and Pioneer trying to replace its CDJ players by USB controllers, long gone are the days where computer DJs were frown upon. Now it’s the DJs still using CD and vinyls who are laughed about.

there should be a word for the fleeting feeling of accomplishment you get after listening to an entire mix online

I know this might not be the "right" thread but it certainly seems to be the most active one, so:

I'm about to rip several hundred of my own CDs for use w/ Traktor; what bitrate is ideal if I anticipate maybe someday playing them in a club? I'm torn btwn LAME V2 and V0 -- is anyone really going to notice the diff btwn the two?

gwenguthrie gwen ross (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 10 September 2012 02:52 (eleven years ago) link

And a follow-up: is EAC still the best ripper out there? I haven't done this in like 5 years.
