"EXCUSE ME I'M TALKING ABOUT BILLY BATHGATE"

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 09:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Has your quiff wilted because of the flu, RJG? I need to get a good strong mental picture.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 10:42 (eighteen years ago) link

I haven't actually had a quiff (I am still not sure about this word) since my last haircut--my usual "stylist" was off. flu, maybe.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 10:54 (eighteen years ago) link

"stylist"

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 10:56 (eighteen years ago) link

her name is "morvern"

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 10:57 (eighteen years ago) link

Morvern Callous.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:00 (eighteen years ago) link

she's the best "stylist" I've ever had!!

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:02 (eighteen years ago) link

If she sang in a barbershop quartet she might be Morvern Callas.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:08 (eighteen years ago) link

bingo hall: morvern caller

any more?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:09 (eighteen years ago) link

Morvern Callbox.

She's confused about her body. Or something. I dunno.

Raston Warrior Robot (alix), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:13 (eighteen years ago) link

Morvern Uproar?

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:17 (eighteen years ago) link

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:19 (eighteen years ago) link

I know I shouldn't be here, but if she was a gas heater she would be Morvern Calor Gas Heater.

I might try Glasgow more next Thursday, I am trying Aberdeen more for my girfriend's sister's wedding on Saturday, but was half thinking of flying to Glasgow and spending a night there, and buying lots of records.

Is Thursday good?

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:31 (eighteen years ago) link

Thursday 4th August?

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:32 (eighteen years ago) link

I am going to a wedding, on saturday, too!

I think thursday is good but unremarkable, so far

crosspost

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:34 (eighteen years ago) link

Ronan, you should be here.

Peter, you should always be here.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:04 (eighteen years ago) link

So what you're saying is that if Ronan were always here, you would disapprove?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:08 (eighteen years ago) link

He wasn't saying that Alba, you twister.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:08 (eighteen years ago) link

It was the clear implication.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:10 (eighteen years ago) link

That reminds me, anyway. If Ronan comes, can we play TWISTER MOVES?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:11 (eighteen years ago) link

yes and the glasgow taxi game and trivial pursuit globetrotter?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:13 (eighteen years ago) link

If we play twister moves, will Ronan come?

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:13 (eighteen years ago) link

That's ADULT TWISTER MOVES.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:14 (eighteen years ago) link

: (

I've never even looked in the box but I assume it comes with a plastic sheet?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:14 (eighteen years ago) link

I would like very much to try Glasgow more, but Ryanair has not yet included MAD (despite this great airportish acronym ) in their flying list...:-(

However any dates from September on particularly recommended?

arantxa, Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:22 (eighteen years ago) link

Can anyone remember the name of that dance music shop across the road from the solid rock cafe next to the entrance to central station? It shut down a few years ago. Used to go in there a lot.
Is the one near sound control still there?
Only one I still know of is 23rd Precinct and I havent been there in years. Didn't think Ned would be interested in visiting that shop especially due to it's bad reputation of being elitist.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:23 (eighteen years ago) link

bomba. rub a dub is still there.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:26 (eighteen years ago) link

I think I was in 23rd Precinct, it wasn't so good. Rub-A-Dub was pretty great. I didn't even find Mono or Monorail or whatever. probably just as well, I spent about 50 quid in Rub A Dub.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:27 (eighteen years ago) link

I am currently being asked whether I want to Try Glasgow More with work w/c 22nd August or w/c 29th August (although neither is definite yet, and probably less than 50% for it going ahead before the end of September instead).

As everyone knows, I am perfectly willing to let social events influence my work obligations, so is there anything on that makes either week more attractive?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Arantxa - not the last weekend in September because I'll be in Dublin.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Monorail is the other end of Argyle St. Near the trongate.
Great shop that. Known dep about 14 years since he worked in missing. I always spend a fortune in there.

I definitely cannot on 1st-2nd Oct, work conference taking place in Madrid itself...12th Oct is Bank hol here, Wednesday. Perhaps I could take 10th/11th off or 13th/14th.

Dinosaur Jr at the ABC on 29th?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:57 (eighteen years ago) link

That's a half-decent opening bid.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:58 (eighteen years ago) link

this is probably as good a time as any to mention that i shall be drinking heavily in mono from about 8.30pm on saturday night. stet will be there too. if anyone fancies coming along, it would be lovely to see you.

the occasion is related to an anniversary that happens with crushing regularity on the same day every year. i'm told that this time it's marginally more important than it has been for the past nine, although to be honest i don't give much of a toss about these things. still: any excuse for a piss-up.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:01 (eighteen years ago) link

Will you dye your sidies in celebratory colours?

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:04 (eighteen years ago) link

Dinosaur Jr at the ABC on 29th?

I'm thinking about going to that.

If he doesn't, I'm doing it with menaces. That's a great idea.

stet (stet), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:16 (eighteen years ago) link

a dinosaur jr FAP would rock. why these things always have to be on mondays, i do not know. moan drone chiz.

mädchen: aargh, what horror have you unleashed? he really will try to do this now. fuck.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:21 (eighteen years ago) link

also: i would like to meet ronan. but his original message has already disappeared off the top of the last 20 posts, and i'm fucked if i'm letting this slow-ass system attempt to load 3,700 messages. so, er, whatever.

have fun in the lansdowne tonight too, whoever's going.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:23 (eighteen years ago) link

You can set it to 50 if you want.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:35 (eighteen years ago) link

i tried that. it was unwieldy.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:38 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm ill too. : (

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:39 (eighteen years ago) link

Holy shit Dinosaur Jr is £15 + all the crap booking fees and shit.
I'm still waiting to see if my mate is going. He's skint. If it doesnt sell out I may get a ticket nearer the time.

Whats the capacity for the ABC?
Is it like the garage where you can park/get dropped off outside the venue by car?

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:52 (eighteen years ago) link

Lansdowne tonight, perhaps 7pm, for anyone who fancies a pint. Not sure whether to eat there or not, but after the day I've had I bloody well need a drink.

P.S. I love Ronan.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:03 (eighteen years ago) link

ABC1 capacity is a bit less than Barrowlands I think. 1200?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:06 (eighteen years ago) link

Dino Jr should be well worth the £15. That's not a lot to pay for a gig these days, what with Brian Wilson being £50 and all.

There's also gonna be a Plan B all day event on the 28th in Mono. Discussions on independent labels and publications and some bands in the evening. Everett True is staying home to look after his baby, which is a shame, cos I'd imagine hearing him speak could be quite entertaining.
