Rahm totally days away from framing Karen Lewis for plotting to blow something up.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 17 September 2012 20:30 (eleven years ago) link

I canceled my Chicago Card 30 day unlimited rides pass after paying for it on July 20, so it should have stopped working on August 20 give or take, yet it is still working almost 1 month later. It just won't stop. I've checked the CTA's website several times and it is definitely not funded. I am riding for free.

So let that be a fuck you to you, Rahm. What are you gonna sue me too?

Cal's and most of the surrounding area was closed today. :(

So last night a friend posted on Facebook at 11:30 that the Chbs game had been rain-delayed and was in its second inning, so I went and watched the game with a few hundred fans in the stands. Got to walk all around the place.

Didn't see this til now (must see video for full effect):

What time did the game finally end?

For whatever reason that video goes black every time I start it.

Ended at 1:30 a.m. My first Cubs game ever. They lost 3-0, had three hits the entire game, and a compelling walk in the ninth inning.

canonical casual cordouroy (Eazy), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 15:52 (eleven years ago) link

i think J0rdan S. was at the game too (i follow him on instagram)

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 15:54 (eleven years ago) link

i was wondering why they didn't just cancel but i guess the pirates are technically still in the playoffs race

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 15:54 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, I think thats why they forced the game in. This is the first season I haven't been to a Cubs game in ages, but thats probably for the best. I'm still kind of astounded that Houston is still ever worse than the Cubs.

cubs have a few bright spots in rizzo, castro (if he learns to play defense), maybe lehair if he gets hot again. seems possible that they could get better over the next few years (guess it would be hard to get worse).

i haven't been to any games this season either. i want to go to a white sox game but the idea of getting evie down there on public transport, keeping her entertained and sitting still for three hours, then getting her home is not appealing to me.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 16:13 (eleven years ago) link

yeah that's a long day for a little one. i think they do have some hope for the future, but sometimes i can't tell if that's my blind optimism as a Cubs fan or something based on reality. Castro could be really something special though.

The time is now to get on the Fire bandwagon. 1 pt out of first in the East, 3rd best record overall in the league.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 16:16 (eleven years ago) link

Of course it is like 20x harder to get out to a game than the Cubs/Sox.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 16:17 (eleven years ago) link

^^ yeah, that's been the biggest stumbling block in trying to convince my wife to go to a Fire game.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 16:20 (eleven years ago) link

There are some groups/bars that run buses w/ tickets and beer included, if that sounds like your thing. It really is a pain in the ass to drive, especially for the casual fan.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 16:56 (eleven years ago) link

The stadium is beautiful, though, too bad it's in the middle of nowhere.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 16:57 (eleven years ago) link

fire games are so fun!
the bathrooms are SUPER clean too and there is never a wait

Yeah, funnily enough I was down there a lot during the construction of Toyota Park because the firm I was with at the time was converting a Venture store right in that area to a business college. Sadly the project wrapped up a couple months before Toyota Park opened and I haven't been down there since.

anyone want to go to a white sox game with me in the next couple of weeks, before the regular season ends? i'm flexible as to the date. i want to stubhub some cheap tickets but it's easier to do in batches of 2-4 then solo.

NICK: I will go to a Sox game w/ you. Contact me.

LL: I think you will like this heartbreaking song as much as I do

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIJFzQz4Png

It's my current track on repeat. I thoroughly enjoyed breaking into short, gusting sobs to it while making gazpacho earlier.

oops disregard that post - I was trying to switch windows and that happened. get back to listening to that song.

this song follows it on Youtube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhL0ichtZjQ

i'd like to take a whole day off work when it's grey and sleeting and sit on the couch next to the damp windows, in my robe with a blanket on my feet, sipping weak tea with the cats dozing next to me from morning until the closes a few hours later.

All sorts of cool shit going on in Hyde Park. I guess the University (which just received its highest even US News ranking; go nerdy alma matter!) has been spending lots of that tuition money on cash incentives to get stuff down there. Not just the Promontory but finally a real hotel, too - a Hyatt? - as well as supposedly lots of other restaurants and spots down the pipeline. Though really someone should reopen Tiki.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 20 September 2012 05:12 (eleven years ago) link

And they're about to open a gigantic arts-and-ideas center, too.

canonical casual cordouroy (Eazy), Thursday, 20 September 2012 05:15 (eleven years ago) link

I think I've been to Hyde park twice in the 8 years I've lived in Chicago.

Jeff, Thursday, 20 September 2012 13:48 (eleven years ago) link

hyde park is cool but i don't like being there after dark

Buncha wimps, you lot.

Actually, I had a friend who used to walk home at night with a large kitchen knife in her hand.

Love Hyde Park in fall.

R is applying for jobs at the U so we might move to HP if that happens. Not having to commute from the north side would be oh so nice.

DX Dx DX (dan m), Thursday, 20 September 2012 16:40 (eleven years ago) link

I really like HP! But since my cousin moved away from there, I haven't had any excuse to get down there.

Though really someone should reopen Tiki.

You mean Cirals' House of Tiki? I had the pleasure of drinking there *just* before it closed. Twelve years ago! Jeez.

Sandy Denny Real Estate (jaymc), Thursday, 20 September 2012 17:10 (eleven years ago) link

I'll be in HP on Oct. 21 for the Humanities Festival. Sadly, the Leopold & Loeb walking tour sold out before I could get tix.
