some of my friends who like some page called "i fucking love science" post shit like that all the time. when did science ppl become as churchy as other religious types?

clouds, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 12:58 (eleven years ago) link

probably when certain religious types became so fucking anti-science perhaps?

No they're not.

look at this quarterstaff (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 15:16 (eleven years ago) link

don't get me wrong, it serves a place, especially when some people are best convinced by that form of expression

maybe it's just as bad... for me. well, but it's not, because half the time I agree with the science crowd. But they (especially the reddit-atheist types) end up conflating religious types who eschew science and those who are completely reasonable scientifically. or other crap.

neil degrasse tyson is all over my FB wall. i didn't even really know who he was until recently but i guess he's some kind of nerd icon and argh i hate that i just typed those two words together

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 15:26 (eleven years ago) link

NdGT is pretty awesome even for a scientist.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 15:28 (eleven years ago) link

yeah I mean what he does, astrophysicist and all, def makes him kind of a nerd magnet/hero/icon but that's just kind of a byproduct he's for everyone, not just nerds

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 15:33 (eleven years ago) link

He's really relate-able and funny and un-selfconscious, a great speaker, and the host of the NOVA podcast, which is pretty damn good.

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 15:50 (eleven years ago) link

not to pile on but he's always been a great daily show guest, this is a pretty nice little interview

Yeah, I actually really like NdGT. He's really likable and relatable and, most importantly, really seems engaging and not at all condescending with his smarts.

it's not like a kevin smith thing where his appeal is mystifying to people who don't like what he does. dude could read the phone book and you'd want 12 of them.

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 16:07 (eleven years ago) link

otm, he's really great at drawing you in without pandering or assuming his audience is stupid.

hah, ok, i'll take y'alls words for it!

TOP FEMALE LAWYER & CARTOONIST FOR 2011: (donna rouge), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 16:26 (eleven years ago) link

He's really great, that doesn't mean you have to put images of him with quotes from him on them on your facebook page.

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 16:27 (eleven years ago) link

or the reddit weirdos, one of them had a picture of himself with the guy, and they were holding a previous picture he'd taken of the two of them

wtf is that shit

i used to follow him on twitter but some of the stuff he said was straight up reddit level atheism crusader poopy, which is just so you do not understand these things as good as you think you do, so i unfollowed him
