It's usually preferable for a dance track to build up in my opinion, as it then works with the previous track as an evolving blend. I wouldn't say it sounds 'weak' though: muffled and murky perhaps - but I like sounds like that; The glossiness of Carl Craig's "Sunglasses Techno" of the last 10 years is a big turn off for my ears.

Re the Grampa track above. Someone should put together a mix of the best 'Lately Bass' preset tracks.

Some of my favourite KCs are his collaborations with YC, such as:

lately bass, is that what you call that bumping new jersey bass sound? greatest example of which is this, all-time house top 10 material:

Choice track choice.

That's the one, the prest was based on the bass sound in Janet Jackson's "What Have You Done For Me Lately", and found on the great second-hand value Yamaha TX81Z.

More 90s dance music I would have nommed in the poll if I thought anyone would vote for it apart from me:

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 16:56 (eleven years ago) link

^ all time classic, would surely get votes

suare, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 16:57 (eleven years ago) link

Wouldn't have nommed this, but I only discovered it a month ago. To my ears it's a deep house take on UK rave influences:

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 17:04 (eleven years ago) link

suare, you reckon? In the 00 poll loads of tunes I consider stone-cold classics were only voted for by me.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 17:05 (eleven years ago) link

A friend of mine put that Don Carlos record at the end of a mix a month back. Hadn't heard it in so many years. Awesome record.

mmmm, Wednesday, 19 September 2012 18:23 (eleven years ago) link

Chewshabadoo, i did nominate it and it's in there. i will certainly be voting it top 3, maybe number 1.
