i'd like to take a whole day off work when it's grey and sleeting and sit on the couch next to the damp windows, in my robe with a blanket on my feet, sipping weak tea with the cats dozing next to me from morning until the closes a few hours later.

All sorts of cool shit going on in Hyde Park. I guess the University (which just received its highest even US News ranking; go nerdy alma matter!) has been spending lots of that tuition money on cash incentives to get stuff down there. Not just the Promontory but finally a real hotel, too - a Hyatt? - as well as supposedly lots of other restaurants and spots down the pipeline. Though really someone should reopen Tiki.

R is applying for jobs at the U so we might move to HP if that happens. Not having to commute from the north side would be oh so nice.

I really like HP! But since my cousin moved away from there, I haven't had any excuse to get down there.

Was idly googling an old high-school classmate and found this item from last year in the Sun-Times:
Michael Richards, 50, bought a bag of potato chips from the store in the 1300 block of South Halsted, then illegally doused the chips in nacho cheese, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Dan Piwowarczyk said. When the store clerk told him the nacho cheese was only for customers who paid for it to use on corn chips in a traditional plastic tray, Richards pulled the clerk’s arm behind his back, twisted it and threatened the clerk, according to a police report. Police arrested Richards a block away Saturday, the report shows. When Judge James Brown asked, “So what was stolen was the cheese?,” Piwowarczyk kept an admirably straight face as he replied, “The defendant was informed that it was not yo’ cheese.”

Seems like there should be a better way to make the play on "not yo'" and "nacho" more apparent in print. Great joke tho.
Wanda Sykes did a bit about reclaiming the N-Word by making it the brand name of a line of snacks: Original N--s, Sour Cream & Onion N--s, and finally, Nacho N--s.

Pretty sure that's a given. Andy Allo is headlining, backed by the NPG. Prince produced and co-wrote much of her new album, and she sings back-up with him.
Still can't wrap my head around the fact that Prince will reportedly have an 11-piece (!) horn section.

That's how I first heard it. I didn't know of it before and I thought it was a strange departure from her usual. I listened to the Prince original next. Nuts.

Also, I am not sure who else to tell about this weird experience I had, so I will tell you:
I went to a festival event at the Hare Krisna temple in my hood on Saturday. I will freely admit that I went for the music, but I was not disappointed on any level. There was a guy chanting with a harmonium, and a few drums/other percussive instruments going at pretty much all times. It was v enjoyable on that level. There were a lot of things to look at, and people were going here and there preparing for a large feast (to which the public was not invited). There was also a credit-card friendly donation machine, and we took our shoes off upon entering. I accidentally sat on the men's side of the room, and didn't realize it until I'd say about 15 min had passed. Wow. There were people dancing, but all women and children, and not with much vigor (with a few exceptions, including one very excited young lady of 6 or so, and a 20-something male of indeterminate origin)
