yeah despite my good experience w/ the new app, the maps thing is a major misstep

being able to access the google maps via browser is a workaround but I don't think it has the integration into contacts and such?

my kids had a ball last night alternately confusing and insulting siri on the ipad 3

or directions or streetview.

caek: yeah, there are a ton of useful APIs in iOS6 that I think people have been hoping to use, and none of them will get looked at if the market starts fragmenting.

just saying that your enthusiasm for that particular feature is misplaced

so this maps business seems like less of a deal if you live where i do (ie - not a lot of public transit to misplace, in america so the mistakes will likely be addressed before the rest a yous)

out of curiosity: anyone use the chrome browser on iOS? i use it on my ipad and greatly prefer it

I've been using both since chrome was released and haven't made my mind up. neither are perfect.

tried it to get around the tab reloading problem, seemed slower n clunkier than safari.

maps on iphone used to be terrible - I remember traveling with some folks in early 2010 and being very thankful I had my blackberry - but obv this is a bad time to cede map dominance to google. apple's got enough money to map every inch of the planet by hand tho don't they?

a huge change here is that they're being so massively ridiculed over them. The whole antennagate stuff was lame jabs and butthurt whining, this is just "lol apple". I bet they can't stand that.

guys apple and google are very likely using the same basic datasets for their maps

google's got a set of data they've been refining and updating for years and years, apple's using tom tom's data now

apple can fix annoying stuff like having to type "brothers" instead of "bros" to find a business, but if it doesn't know the correct coordinates for your address, or that a street or business no longer exists, welp

hoping there's some sweet death race 2000 style action between google's steetview cars and the apple carts in the future

seems like googles big advantage long term in maps is that theyre a search company
