i had one of those tapes once. some kid at my boarding school invited some raver kids from jersey up to school to spin and they gave me this tape of really beautful, minimal, tracky, clubby house music, and it got taped over when one of my friends tried to convince me to like the grateful dead instead and taped over it (i handed him the wrong tape!).

anyways:
wpa - kamikaze = sick belgian/detroit stylee with harrowing vocal pads in the middle and a cool vocal sample too.

speaking of santos...I hope all in NYC are coming to subtonic on saturdays...great party. Jon and Andrew Wilder host w/ Jeremy Campbell, and semi-regulars include Doug Lee, Porkchop, the Negroclash DJs and myself among others. Very fun.

Those are called Z-tracks and are basically UR only white labels for UR DJ's.

I want the 'Soul Power' Z-track on vinyl so so so so bad. I made myself a CD-R edit (off the Aztech Mystic mix cd) to play on the CDJ but it's just not the same. Maybe at the next movement I'll mug a UR dj and steal his copy. And then hope Mad Mike doesn't sic his UR sonic killer bee commandos on me.

Ha ha. Fuck you.

sadly slsk is down. not that I'd have much fun of tracking this stuff down anyway.

Alot of this stuff got repressed a few months back.

Also, Avoid the dodgy electro records in the 30's of the UR catalogue.

how did i live this long without hearing Eye of the Storm? I feel like forwarding it to every Aphex fan list in existence. not as a shot across the bow, more like a care package.

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 8 May 2005 00:22 (nineteen years ago) link

only complaint: why recompile "amazon" and "jupiter jazz" again? people will be buying "depth charge vol 1", if they know what's good for them. they could have put on the 4hero mix of "amazon" instead, as well as unedited versions of "the theory" (melanic mix?) and "hitech jazz" (science mix?).

Price:$0.00

result!

i was wondering where the hi tech jazz love was - i was listening to that and Galaxy2Galaxy today. never tires.

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 8 May 2005 00:39 (nineteen years ago) link

i suppose there's not much love for "jazzy" house/techno on ILM.

is jeff mills "live at the liquid room" out of print? if not, where can it be found? no luck on ebay

Ô¿Ô (eman), Sunday, 17 July 2005 16:37 (eighteen years ago) link

OOP, probably.

Pops up on amazon used frequently enough for around £10 (put it in your wishlist, check every so often, works for me).

omg transition!! i've been hearing it a lot recently, only just got round to googling the lyrics to find out what it is.

toby (tsg20), Thursday, 28 July 2005 13:29 (eighteen years ago) link

"live at the liquid room" is probably the best thing, ever. $25 on ebay right now.

They finally got around to releasing this to the general public. I got my copy and didn't even have to commit any crimes to do it! Stoked.

I just got Rolando's Vibrations mix and really love it. The "squelchy breakbeat techno and electro" that Vahid describes is perfectly calibrated such that it's accessible and energising but not overtly retro-self-conscious.

i suppose there's not much love for "jazzy" house/techno on ILM.

i was thinking about this recently. why is this? is it simply because so much of it is so fucking atrocious, or because of some hatred of jazz (ie 'Jazz Douchebags' thread)?

anyway, i am listening to Sun Chaser and am enjoying myself.

the table is the table, Saturday, 24 February 2007 23:43 (seventeen years ago) link

the jazzy UR stuff is dope!

lfam, Sunday, 25 February 2007 01:09 (seventeen years ago) link

"nocturbulous behavior" is really something else, yeah? i'm putting it on right now ... the one thing that bugs about it is no MIDNIGHT SUNSHINE, pretty much his best track ever.

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 25 February 2007 01:46 (seventeen years ago) link

i would suggest that if you are having trouble finding any UR stuff on slsk that you do the whole free e-music thing. they have such an astounding quantity of UR and UR-associated stuff...so if you don't mind somewhat iffay qualitay, then go for it.

It's alright, that record is probably the best of the not-so-classic UR electro records.

matt2, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 15:34 (seventeen years ago) link

i should point out that the nocturbulous behavior mix is on emusic as a cost-effective all-in-one-track download

strongohulkington, Wednesday, 4 April 2007 19:53 (seventeen years ago) link

why do i see it as three tracks totaling 16 mins?

deej, Sunday, 8 April 2007 22:16 (seventeen years ago) link

holy fuck, I'm working my way thru the Happy/Happy Soul material and these beats hit so hard, this is such an immaculate perfect intersection of Underground Resistance and house music, I cannot believe this is real!!!!!!!!

one of the best mix CD cover arts of all time IMO

davina "don't you want it" has been in print and the marc pharoah just got reissued but the good ones on that label (mad mike's "happy trax" series, the aaron carls, etc) routinely go for $30+

OH SHIT THANK YOU!! He did a cassette mix in 1995 that looks SO GOOD but it's nowhere to be found online (he's uploaded so many of his other mixes to Soundcloud I almost want to like... email him and ask if he has this one too??)

Dex is one of the UR crew that really just gets the aesthetic and does amazing work, his mixes and productions as Nomadico are all incredible.

ALSO I have been bumping this one a lot recently, it's been filling my deep desire for aggressive, ominous electro.
