so weird that the G isn't running

乒乓, Wednesday, 31 October 2012 19:20 (eleven years ago) link

tunnel has water in it is what I hear

iatee, Wednesday, 31 October 2012 19:21 (eleven years ago) link

hmm, express bus vs f train tomorrow (as only line running) seems like a tossup. I guess I just have to bite the bullet and go in super early.

Knut Horowitz, Able-Bodied Investment Banker and Ladies Man (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 31 October 2012 19:33 (eleven years ago) link

you will have to be aggressive to get on the f, but you're prob better off than people who don't live in forest hills, because by the time the trains get to western queens it's gonna be hopeless. I would go that route unless the rumors I hear about carpooling ends up being true.

iatee, Wednesday, 31 October 2012 19:42 (eleven years ago) link

I have a potential carpool set up just in case

iatee, Wednesday, 31 October 2012 20:28 (eleven years ago) link

ugh just spent 40 mins in a bus basically going nowhere. didn't want to walk but no choice really.

iatee, Wednesday, 31 October 2012 22:04 (eleven years ago) link

yeah friend who works in times square basically had to walk from times square to long island city before he finally got a cab home. hoping the F tomorrow will alleviate things a little but I'm not hugely optimistic.

Knut Horowitz, Able-Bodied Investment Banker and Ladies Man (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 31 October 2012 23:50 (eleven years ago) link

I wonder why the 7 isn't running from queensborough plaza to flushing? I think I'll try and bike it tomorrow--even reverse commute, I'm not sure about the buses.

With schools out, the libraries are going to be packed with kids (if they somehow find out we're open--ssshhhh).

Virginia Plain, Wednesday, 31 October 2012 23:59 (eleven years ago) link

no idea why, but it sure makes my morning less fun

iatee, Thursday, 1 November 2012 00:05 (eleven years ago) link

I'm gonna have to walk from wburg to penn station on friday I think : (

乒乓, Thursday, 1 November 2012 00:07 (eleven years ago) link

Debating just walking from here to work -- it could be about the equivalent of a car ride (2.5 hours)

Knut Horowitz, Able-Bodied Investment Banker and Ladies Man (Hurting 2), Thursday, 1 November 2012 00:17 (eleven years ago) link

VP, saw big sign on front of my branch, but tried to block it so kids wouldn't see

50 Skidillion Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 1 November 2012 00:20 (eleven years ago) link

vp you should work for the brooklyn library -- their website is down, so know one will know that they're open tomorrow

mookieproof, Thursday, 1 November 2012 00:22 (eleven years ago) link

idk where you work but 2.5 might even be an underestimate xp

iatee, Thursday, 1 November 2012 00:23 (eleven years ago) link

I would prob just take the subway if I were you

iatee, Thursday, 1 November 2012 00:24 (eleven years ago) link

Just this second got QBPL email "We're Open to Serve You During the Storm Recovery"

50 Skidillion Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 1 November 2012 00:26 (eleven years ago) link

Haha, me too. And why are they promising homework help? There's no school so there shouldn't be too much homework and we are no doubt going to be short staffed.

Virginia Plain, Thursday, 1 November 2012 00:43 (eleven years ago) link

you should give them the wrong answers as revenge

iatee, Thursday, 1 November 2012 00:44 (eleven years ago) link

I do that sometimes by mistake, and then the next day they come to me and reproach me and tell me that its my fault that they got their homework wrong . . . If I wanted to spend my afternoons doing kids' homework for them, I would have had my own kids. At least then their perfect answers would reflect well upon me.

Virginia Plain, Thursday, 1 November 2012 00:54 (eleven years ago) link

You should refer those kids to Random homework googler memorial thread

Got on the F at 71st Ave with no problem a little before 7am. It filled up on the way (running local) but it really wasn't bad. More worried about getting home -- thinking about even possibly walking all the way to 34th/HS just to make sure I get on.

people go to ridiculous lengths just to show up at work when I'd guess at least a good portion of these people's bosses would understand if they stayed home

Knut Horowitz, Able-Bodied Investment Banker and Ladies Man (Hurting 2), Thursday, 1 November 2012 15:22 (eleven years ago) link

My boss isn't going in, so....

purveyor of generations (in orbit), Thursday, 1 November 2012 15:40 (eleven years ago) link

Had a lovely bike ride to work this morning. My boss encouraged my coworker to try to make it in (against my better judgment) from South Brooklyn. After 2 hours, he had made it to the Brooklyn Museum (not sure how that's even possible that it was that slow). I told him to go back home.

Virginia Plain, Thursday, 1 November 2012 17:22 (eleven years ago) link

At Roosevelt Ave you have to wait upstairs before you are allowed to go through the turnstile down to the platform. It's like trying to get into a trendy nightclub, only instead of the velvet rope there is a twisted strand of crime scene tape.

50 Skidillion Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 1 November 2012 17:31 (eleven years ago) link

all the nightclubs I go to use crime scene tape

any reports on return trips?

Knut Horowitz, Able-Bodied Investment Banker and Ladies Man (Hurting 2), Thursday, 1 November 2012 22:08 (eleven years ago) link

(manhattan to brooklyn or queens)

Knut Horowitz, Able-Bodied Investment Banker and Ladies Man (Hurting 2), Thursday, 1 November 2012 22:08 (eleven years ago) link

I took the N from herald sq to qbp and walked back to sunnyside. I got a seat but the N was def crush load at and after times sq.

going to work it was crowded but not crush load, so I was surprised at the difference. maybe a lot of people didn't even know the subway was running this morning but took it on the way back.

iatee, Thursday, 1 November 2012 22:22 (eleven years ago) link

Only report is I went about 5 to Roosevelt to check it out and the people all of a sudden started piling up behind the turnstile. The authorities said something about "stopping" for a while, it wasn't clear whether this meant no trains or full platforms.

50 Skidillion Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 1 November 2012 22:23 (eleven years ago) link

Weird thing is it if you didn't know ant better it looked like people lining up for a funicular

50 Skidillion Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 1 November 2012 22:24 (eleven years ago) link

loling at everyone running out of gas

iatee, Thursday, 1 November 2012 22:26 (eleven years ago) link

I think I remember those 'nightclub' lines from the short transit strike.

I do not go to ridiculous lengths just to show up at work, esp when bldg is closed.
