I know Andrew.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 30 July 2005 17:36 (eighteen years ago) link

Cool. He was a nice chap. I'd always wondered if you get paid extra for those book recommendations, but alas, 'tis not the case.

Stew (stew s), Saturday, 30 July 2005 17:49 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah, he is very enthusiastic and fun to talk to. whose party was it?

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 30 July 2005 18:27 (eighteen years ago) link

A guy called Mark, who's a friend of a friend. I think one of his flatmates works for Waterstones so there was a whole crew of bookshop employees there.

Stew (stew s), Saturday, 30 July 2005 18:58 (eighteen years ago) link

Don't worry about it, Stew. I was queue jumping with the best of them last time, and I was so knackered I couldn't be bothered speaking to anyone anyway.

Thanks to Glasgow for another excellent night of ruin. Glasgow, you're good. Barfly, on the other hand, is rotten. Apart from when they played Doctoring the Tardis. That was fun.

I suppose I'd also better apologise to Madchen and Stet for any nasty diseases transmitted by Ryan's "toilet treasures". Hehehehe.

How's the head, grimly? You seemed rather, erm, pished.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 31 July 2005 09:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Grimly is an excellent drunk.

Mädchen (Madchen), Sunday, 31 July 2005 09:46 (eighteen years ago) link

astounding

dahlin (dahlin), Sunday, 31 July 2005 10:14 (eighteen years ago) link

I need to work on my drunk skillz. I would love to be a comedy and entertaining drunk, but I'm a maudlin and grumpy old sod.

Grimly was so entertainingly drunk that he singlehandedly managed to convince my husband that not all mentalists are actually mentalists. The mister was all "S1mon ROCKS! He's excellent". Normally he's "your friend are all off the internet. LOSER!!", but somehow he's now been convinced that this is, in fact, an OK thing.

I'm not sure how one conversation with a very drunk bloke is more important evidence than, you know, the fact that he's known all my perfectly normal internet mentalist companions for ages.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 31 July 2005 10:25 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm sorry I didn't come. I just felt too damn sober after leaving work at 12 to enter a world of drunkenness.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 31 July 2005 10:30 (eighteen years ago) link

Hello everyone. I miss y'all. Except Alba, who cruelly avoided meeting me. *cries*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 31 July 2005 10:32 (eighteen years ago) link

I would've liked to come, but felt too ill. Instead I went to bed and had two terrifying nightmares. The second one was about armed police threatening to shoot me, and zombies. : (

Hello Ned! Where are you now?

Cathy (Cathy), Sunday, 31 July 2005 10:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Hulloa. I R home in California, jet-lagged like crazy which is why I am up so early (it's just now 5 am and I have been cat-napping on and off all night, I suspect tonight things will readjust properly).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 31 July 2005 11:08 (eighteen years ago) link

It was great to meet you, even though it was very brief!

Cathy (Cathy), Sunday, 31 July 2005 11:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Yus indeed! :-) You must post many stories about Spanish adventures.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 31 July 2005 11:27 (eighteen years ago) link

I will do.

Also:

As it is my birthday on Tuesday, would Glasgow like to come out with me on Friday, for celebrations? I want to go to the Konaki on Sauchiehall St because it is my favourite restaurant ever, but then we could go somewhere else afterwards to meet up with non-Greek-eaters. It is quite near Stereo, but I kind of hate Stereo. It is also quite near The Tap, which has just been painted black, but I don't know whether that means it is any better than ever before. Still, who wants to come to the Konaki?

Cathy (Cathy), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:12 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm afraid I'm in London on Friday. But I'll see you on Tuesday, maybe?

I'm going to the park now, I think. I don't know why I didn't before.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:14 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh, waah! You're always going to London.

Cathy (Cathy), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:15 (eighteen years ago) link

If I'm not on holiday, then I would like to come out and eat Greek food with you. I like how Glasgow's got really sociable these days (except for Alba, obviously).

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:15 (eighteen years ago) link

Ooh, do come ailsa. If lot's of people hate Friday, it could just as well be Thursday...

Cathy (Cathy), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:16 (eighteen years ago) link

Thursday, I could do.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:18 (eighteen years ago) link

I am not working this week at all so I can come out any night (not Tuesday itself as I will be watching Celtic being humiliated by a bunch of under-rated kids from Slovakia). We are currently trying to get away somewhere on some sort of cheap last minute type thing, but it's not happening as cheaply as I'd like. If I am here when you go out, then I will be there. If you see what I mean.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:22 (eighteen years ago) link

I like Thursdays. I probably won't want to stay out too late, for anyone that has a job to go to Friday. Madchen said she will have finished her conference and may be in a party mood Thursday, anyway. I might miss Question Time, but at least I won't miss the BB eviction...

Cathy (Cathy), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:23 (eighteen years ago) link

Hi Ned!

Last night; Simon was having a nice time. We actually went to The Garage. I'm not sure exactly how bad it was, but it wasn't exactly good. But RJG's arm danced. And we found a flapjack girl.

Another Bowlie admirer vote, which I hope is from Mandee.

Ally C (Ally C), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:23 (eighteen years ago) link

What happened to the Castle?

Mädchen (Madchen), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:40 (eighteen years ago) link

I wish I had gone to the Garage. Barfly was rubbish and warm and busy and not at all conducive to fun. Yeah, the Castle. What happened to that?

More importantly, what happened to your beard?!

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:44 (eighteen years ago) link

It was sieged.

Ally C (Ally C), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:44 (eighteen years ago) link

(Ally C that was directed to, Madchen doesn't have a beard. Mind you, neither does Ally C any more. What am I talking about?)

(xpost - someone sieged your beard?)

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:45 (eighteen years ago) link

hell's bells!

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:52 (eighteen years ago) link

What, no more beard??

Cathy (Cathy), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:56 (eighteen years ago) link

shave and a haircut, no bits

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 31 July 2005 12:58 (eighteen years ago) link

They shaved his bits?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 31 July 2005 13:00 (eighteen years ago) link

This is the post where I say hi back to Ally C and RJG and ask if they have had occasion to use the gift of hot sauce yet.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 31 July 2005 13:01 (eighteen years ago) link

no bits

I put a coupla drops (scared) in a pasta sauce that cathy and I made, a coupla weeks ago. I could taste it but cathy said she couldn't. I thought it was nice!

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 31 July 2005 13:03 (eighteen years ago) link

:-) Up the amount a bit as needed until you find the right medium for all.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 31 July 2005 13:06 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm going to optimo tonight - let me know if you're planning to go along (anyone).

guest - Sir Richard Bishop from the Sun City Girls. Woot!

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 31 July 2005 13:15 (eighteen years ago) link

oh my god i want konaki!!!
but i wouldn't be able to do thursday. and are people trying edinburgh on friday or did i dream that?
i can't believe you tried the garage! i might have been convinced...
home ned! wow. does that mean there will be more photos? what did your mum think?

dahlin (dahlin), Sunday, 31 July 2005 13:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Now you mention it Jed, have you heard that Sun City Girls are playing Instal in October? People might even dance, rather than stroke their chins.

Stew (stew s), Sunday, 31 July 2005 14:27 (eighteen years ago) link

does that mean there will be more photos?

I will be posting something to that effect later today.

what did your mum think?

Of my trip? It got her to actually write her First E-mail Ever to me in response to my blogs. A momentous occasion.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 31 July 2005 14:41 (eighteen years ago) link

I hope you can fix those 2 photos with photoshop that you took for your mum in George Square.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Sunday, 31 July 2005 17:14 (eighteen years ago) link

ooooooooooooooooh.

me fuckin' head

thank you all. it was absolutely fantastic to see you. reading this and speaking to some of the others, it sounds like i had a fantastic time. fucked if i can remember, though.

i liked barfly, although they could have been playing acker bilk's greatest hits and i'd still have been happy.

the effort of typing this is all but killing me. shit.

thursday, then. hoo jesus.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 31 July 2005 18:09 (eighteen years ago) link

stew - i heard about that. good news! Pauline Oliveiros too :) i had a look at my finances and will have to give tonight a miss, never mind. maybe i'll bump into you at the 'mo one night.

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 31 July 2005 18:16 (eighteen years ago) link

also: i apologise wholeheartedly for failing miserably to do any introductions. i think i might have introducted dahlin, ally and RJG to mrs fiendish, and that was it. god damn.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 31 July 2005 19:45 (eighteen years ago) link

yo, you spent about thirty minutes wandering about the room saying "and this is X, who is X, and this is Y, who is X's girlfriend. Please meet Z." Sometimes even quietly to yourself.

stet (stet), Sunday, 31 July 2005 19:49 (eighteen years ago) link

Sometimes even quietly to yourself.

that might have been where i went wrong.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 31 July 2005 19:51 (eighteen years ago) link

What a world.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 1 August 2005 06:57 (eighteen years ago) link

hey glasgow. do any of you want to try edinburgh on friday? not only is there the gauguin exhibit during the day, but there are loads of fringe festival preview shows by night, including this one. Or Hedwig! Anyone? Anyone?

dahlin (dahlin), Monday, 1 August 2005 08:42 (eighteen years ago) link

Ooh, that (first one) looks like it has the potential to be head-shakingly awful. Count me in! (if I haven't made it out of the country)

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 1 August 2005 10:40 (eighteen years ago) link

I shook Princess Anne's (gloved) hand.

Mädchen (Madchen), Monday, 1 August 2005 16:25 (eighteen years ago) link

my dad accidentally waved his arse at princess anne, many moons ago. or was it margaret? i forget.

more recently, i snubbed prince philip. he stood behind my desk and tried to engage me in conversation about sub-editing. i ignored him, because i disagree with his right to exist. he fucked off to talk to my boss instead; i tried to run over his foot with my chair but missed and knocked over my bin instead.

ah, it's all coming back to me, the great royal visit of ... whenever it was. stet wore a suit especially for the occasion, the big royalist lickspittle. i think he even combed his hair into a forelock so he could tug it.

there was an unfunny incident with a singing fish as well. crappy days.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 1 August 2005 16:30 (eighteen years ago) link

In other news, I will no longer be coming out for Cathy's birthday greekness, neither shall I be going to Edinburgh. Instead I shall be in Spain! On holiday! Wooo!!
