It was warm that night. I only wore a light jacket. The best days are behind us.

The best days are behind us.
Great campaign slogan

Jeff, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 05:28 (eleven years ago) link

I am going to sleep the sleep of a very relieved person.

But it'll have to be without Obama's speech, sounds like Romney isn't going to concede any time soon.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 05:33 (eleven years ago) link

He has to "write" a speech. He should just sing "Lemon Tree" and dedicate it to Seamus and spare us the rest.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 05:34 (eleven years ago) link

lol

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 05:35 (eleven years ago) link

relevant tweet that made me LOL the hardest:

ROMNEY HAS CONCEDED... THAT PAUL RYAN'S BUNS ARE TIGHT AS HELL. "DAMN THEY'RE TIGHT", GOV. RONMEY CONCEDED

carl agatha, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 05:36 (eleven years ago) link

i saw that and loled

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 05:39 (eleven years ago) link

How y'all feeling this morning? I slept for like 5 hrs, I'm good.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 14:29 (eleven years ago) link

All the judges were retained, btw.

No surprise

Jeff, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 15:26 (eleven years ago) link

All that careful arrow-connecting for naught.

Also I = hung over.

dansplaining (dan m), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 15:50 (eleven years ago) link

i drank 3/4 of a beer and went to bed at 10:30

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 16:23 (eleven years ago) link

though i was awake for half an hour at 4:30 trying to get evie to go back to sleep, she just does not understand daylight savings time

you know what is a good song is "idiot wind" by mr. bob dylan

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 16:31 (eleven years ago) link

also a good song title

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 16:31 (eleven years ago) link

I had Blood on the Tracks on a 45-minute cassette tape, and the guy who taped it for me cut out "Idiot Wind" to make it fit. So I know the rest of the album by heart, but may have never heard that song.

cruel silver of hope (Eazy), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 16:43 (eleven years ago) link

i like dylan but don't really know his stuff outside of the big early albums, so i've lined up blood on the tracks, john wesley harding, and infidels on spotify this morning

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 16:45 (eleven years ago) link

do the judges always get retained just because most people don't bother to read up on them and either leave it blank or vote to retain everyone, or are there other political shenanigans at work?

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 16:46 (eleven years ago) link

I think you should have to draw small pictures of the judge on the ballot to retain them.

Jeff, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 17:28 (eleven years ago) link

Looks like Brim got just over 60% to be retained. If she couldn't get kicked out I'm not sure who could.

Jeff, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 17:29 (eleven years ago) link

do the judges always get retained just because most people don't bother to read up on them and either leave it blank or vote to retain everyone

I guess I've assumed that this is the case. Since you can view the elections results by ward, I was wondering if you could extrapolate which wards are best-informed by their percentage of "no" votes.

Sandy Denny Real Estate (jaymc), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:05 (eleven years ago) link

well there could be some people who are "informed" but still choose to retain judges because of their personal beliefs or weirdness

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 7 November 2012 18:09 (eleven years ago) link

True; it wouldn't be a perfect correlation.

I'm not the only one who sees "Browntrout" and thinks "turd," right?

carl agatha, Wednesday, 7 November 2012 23:24 (eleven years ago) link

I'm finally watching Freaks and Geeks.

these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Thursday, 8 November 2012 03:08 (eleven years ago) link

I think Kim Kelley might be my fave. Or maybe Jason Segal's character.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 8 November 2012 03:13 (eleven years ago) link

That Bib list is fucked up. Some stuff has no place on there. Some stuff that vanished one expects to get bumped up to a star.

Going to Browntrout in a couple weeks, bunch of moms and dads with all our kids in tow. People will hate us.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 8 November 2012 03:18 (eleven years ago) link

They are all so endearing. xp

carl agatha, Thursday, 8 November 2012 03:19 (eleven years ago) link

eh it's a family neighborhood and they have a kids eat free special, I think you'll be ok. I've never eaten there despite its proximity.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 8 November 2012 03:20 (eleven years ago) link

I love the ultra nerd with glasses who wants to watch Dallas. He's pretty consistently hilarious. I've only watched 1.75 episodes though.

LOL Led Zep conspiracy theories.

carl agatha, Thursday, 8 November 2012 03:22 (eleven years ago) link

that's bill haverchuk

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 8 November 2012 03:23 (eleven years ago) link

Very mild spoilers here but: one of the things I love about f&g is how they consistently take side characters who seem like stereotypes and then flesh them out into three dimensional characters (Kim Kelley, the gym teacher, even the bully).

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 8 November 2012 03:26 (eleven years ago) link

Los Nopales is an interesting one on that list--Mexican on Western in Lincoln Square.

cruel silver of hope (Eazy), Thursday, 8 November 2012 03:26 (eleven years ago) link

I'm guessing you're watching it on Netflix but the DVD commentary tracks are pretty great.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 8 November 2012 03:30 (eleven years ago) link

He's drinking beer out of a little plastic baseball hat. Man, this show is hilarious.

Yes Netflix. It popped up in the recommended list along with My So Called Life, which I have never seen, tried to watch, hated almost immediately, and turned off. I find these nerds and stoners much more relatable for some reason I cannot imagine why.

carl agatha, Thursday, 8 November 2012 03:34 (eleven years ago) link

Los Nopales is a weird one -- we've eaten there a few times and it's good and affordable and byo and whatever, but we'd never go there if it wasn't in our hood.

doctor, doctor, give me the news (askance johnson), Thursday, 8 November 2012 03:35 (eleven years ago) link

I forget where I read it, but someone pointed out that the Bib Gourmand list is a weird mix of trendy places that aren't quite worthy of a star and cheap ethnic standbys.

Just realized that Antique Taco got a nod over Big Star -- I think their tacos do stand up to their competitor's, but I had a lousy margarita there.

Sandy Denny Real Estate (jaymc), Thursday, 8 November 2012 07:17 (eleven years ago) link

New stuff coming to Chicago transit. Sound cool (though who knows what dark forces come with it, vis paying private company recurring and per- use fees, etc).

Press release.

Basically, cta and pace will be on one system, the new card will also be a refillable debit card, you can use bank cards to pay fares directly at buses and stations (best part IMO) and also cool: Customers will also eventually be able to use compatible mobile phones to pay for train and bus rides.
