has anyone here ever done out-of-state interlibrary loan? is it a hassle? expensive?

i posted that maggot brain thing on the soundcloud thread but i don't think anyone actually uses that thread.

kramer's is kind of cool, they have a lofted cafe area in the past where you can buy vegetarian sandwiches and salads and soups, might go back there for lunch sometime. also i bought vegan jerky which was pretty gross.

also the library didn't have my hold book despite sending me an email saying they had my hold book. second time this year that's happened.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 8 November 2012 20:46 (eleven years ago) link

they did have bulgur at kramer's but it took a while to find

When I worked at Jackson/Michigan in 2004-05, I ate lunch at Kramer's all the time.

I used to buy toothpaste at Kramer's when I was in law school, then they opened a Whole Foods by our apartment and I bought toothpaste there, but now that I worker much closer to Kramer's than I live near Whole Foods, I will probably buy toothpaste there again.

I'm going back to early 2005, get some lunch, and tell myself to study harder in criminal law and property class.

honda fit, kind of inbetween hatchback and wagon. feels way bigger inside than it looks from the outside. mainly just crazy driving a car that isn't 17 years old and that has a stereo.

Wish I'd known about the Tame Impala show tonight before it sold out -- I bet they'd be great live.

I would have totally gone were I not already spending my stay-up-late chits on Aimee Mann/Ted Leo and the dBs.

I just got a long and kind of hilarious list of continuing ed classes at the school where I teach that need adjunct instructors so if anybody is interested in teaching something, let me know and I'll forward it to you. Highlights include web development, various languages, money management, career-specific things.

If anyone is wondering how to get around the paywall at the tribune site, install the Readability extension. Load the page and Read Now from the Readability menu. It will pull the whole text.

Heyyyyy is there a good place to eat new Rev Brew that isn't Rev Brew? I made plans to meet a colleague there tonight but they are having a beer event and that sounds like it would be terrible.

carl agatha, Friday, 16 November 2012 13:41 (eleven years ago) link

There's some decent BYOB places in the general vicinity:

4 Suyos (Peruvian; 2727 W. Fullerton)
Chilapan (Mexican; 2459 W. Armitage)
90 Miles (Cuban; 2540 W. Armitage)

Also, since Rev is just a couple of blocks away from the heart of Logan Square, there's always the usual suspects there: Lula, Longman & Eagle, Telegraph, etc.

Sandy Denny Real Estate (jaymc), Friday, 16 November 2012 13:57 (eleven years ago) link

Those are good ideas. I will run these by my dining companion and hopefully she'll just pick one. Actually, Peruvian sounds kind of amazing.

Of the ones I named, the only one I haven't been to is Telegraph, but I've heard good things (including from Kr and my bro).

hey so i already managed to accidentally drain the battery in our new car. do any of you with cars want to swing by this evening or tomorrow and give us a jump? i will owe you a beer. but i can also try to snag a stranger for a jump if no one is available.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 16 November 2012 15:28 (eleven years ago) link

passion it person (La Lechera), Friday, 16 November 2012 15:36 (eleven years ago) link

yeah we probably won't be home until 6ish anyways so that's cool. i have cables if you don't.

there was a guy on the el this morning working out an intricate design with a gouge on a piece of wood that was approximately 3 feet by 2 feet

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 16 November 2012 15:40 (eleven years ago) link

I've heard Telegraph is overpriced. Haven't been to any of the BYOBs mentioned, but I'd also add Boiler Room and Letizia's Fiore to the list.

Telegraph can get pricey, especially w drinks. the one time I was there I paid $$ and left hungry.

courtnoodle, Friday, 16 November 2012 19:40 (eleven years ago) link

It's cool. We're going to Duke of Perth. hahaha

carl agatha, Friday, 16 November 2012 19:58 (eleven years ago) link

I told Jeff this in an email but I am going to tell you all because it is a good snapshot of my how this day is going:

I'm eating at my desk while working and I stuck my pen in my mouth instead of my fork.

Then I rocked out to a Widespread Panic song on XRT. Hurry, Beer O'Clock.

carl agatha, Friday, 16 November 2012 19:59 (eleven years ago) link

I'm doing private-room karaoke tonight. Pumped.
