dansplaining (dan m), Monday, 12 November 2012 17:58 (eleven years ago) link

honda fit, kind of inbetween hatchback and wagon. feels way bigger inside than it looks from the outside. mainly just crazy driving a car that isn't 17 years old and that has a stereo.

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 12 November 2012 18:01 (eleven years ago) link

Fit is go.

kinda wish I had a fit instead of a yaris, but the grass is always greener etc.

Wish I'd known about the Tame Impala show tonight before it sold out -- I bet they'd be great live.

Sandy Denny Real Estate (jaymc), Tuesday, 13 November 2012 22:40 (eleven years ago) link

I would have totally gone were I not already spending my stay-up-late chits on Aimee Mann/Ted Leo and the dBs.

I just got a long and kind of hilarious list of continuing ed classes at the school where I teach that need adjunct instructors so if anybody is interested in teaching something, let me know and I'll forward it to you. Highlights include web development, various languages, money management, career-specific things.

If anyone is wondering how to get around the paywall at the tribune site, install the Readability extension. Load the page and Read Now from the Readability menu. It will pull the whole text.

Heyyyyy is there a good place to eat new Rev Brew that isn't Rev Brew? I made plans to meet a colleague there tonight but they are having a beer event and that sounds like it would be terrible.

carl agatha, Friday, 16 November 2012 13:41 (eleven years ago) link

There's some decent BYOB places in the general vicinity:

4 Suyos (Peruvian; 2727 W. Fullerton)
Chilapan (Mexican; 2459 W. Armitage)
90 Miles (Cuban; 2540 W. Armitage)

Also, since Rev is just a couple of blocks away from the heart of Logan Square, there's always the usual suspects there: Lula, Longman & Eagle, Telegraph, etc.

Sandy Denny Real Estate (jaymc), Friday, 16 November 2012 13:57 (eleven years ago) link

Those are good ideas. I will run these by my dining companion and hopefully she'll just pick one. Actually, Peruvian sounds kind of amazing.

passion it person (La Lechera), Friday, 16 November 2012 14:54 (eleven years ago) link

Of the ones I named, the only one I haven't been to is Telegraph, but I've heard good things (including from Kr and my bro).

passion it person (La Lechera), Friday, 16 November 2012 15:36 (eleven years ago) link

there was a guy on the el this morning working out an intricate design with a gouge on a piece of wood that was approximately 3 feet by 2 feet

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 16 November 2012 15:40 (eleven years ago) link

that sounds sexy

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 16 November 2012 15:43 (eleven years ago) link

I've heard Telegraph is overpriced. Haven't been to any of the BYOBs mentioned, but I'd also add Boiler Room and Letizia's Fiore to the list.

Telegraph can get pricey, especially w drinks. the one time I was there I paid $$ and left hungry.

courtnoodle, Friday, 16 November 2012 19:40 (eleven years ago) link

It's cool. We're going to Duke of Perth. hahaha

carl agatha, Friday, 16 November 2012 19:58 (eleven years ago) link

I told Jeff this in an email but I am going to tell you all because it is a good snapshot of my how this day is going:

I'm eating at my desk while working and I stuck my pen in my mouth instead of my fork.

Then I rocked out to a Widespread Panic song on XRT. Hurry, Beer O'Clock.

carl agatha, Friday, 16 November 2012 19:59 (eleven years ago) link

I'm doing private-room karaoke tonight. Pumped.

Sandy Denny Real Estate (jaymc), Friday, 16 November 2012 21:13 (eleven years ago) link

The next time I do karaoke, I am going to sing Possum Kingdom. Don't let me forget.

carl agatha, Friday, 16 November 2012 21:14 (eleven years ago) link

I'm going to While Foods to drink Bourbon County Stout.

Jeff, Friday, 16 November 2012 21:40 (eleven years ago) link

Jeff, Saturday, 17 November 2012 03:09 (eleven years ago) link

GUYS. My birthday is Thanksgiving. I'm going to be 40. Be nice to me.

carl agatha, Saturday, 17 November 2012 04:35 (eleven years ago) link

Happy early bday. You're a cutie pie.

I'll be in NC on your bday. Do you want me to do anything there in honor of it? Maybe tickle my mom?

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Saturday, 17 November 2012 06:26 (eleven years ago) link

Just... Just love your family Jesse. Love them and hold them tight.

carl agatha, Saturday, 17 November 2012 13:15 (eleven years ago) link

is there a way for us to celebrate your birthday with you?

passion it person (La Lechera), Saturday, 17 November 2012 14:32 (eleven years ago) link

Maybe after the fact. My parents are in town for a week and we're having Thanksgiving dinner at Longman and Eagle. I'm kind of ambivalent about the whole thing aside from occasional neurotic episodes about turning the-big-four-oh.

carl agatha, Saturday, 17 November 2012 14:45 (eleven years ago) link

shit like this doesn't help! Or the tendency of people to use "40 year old woman" as shorthand for someone boring and uncool. (Someone said to me the other day that salsa dancing is for college kids and 40-year old women, which 1) what's wrong with salsa dancing?* and 2) fuck you!)

*Of course I'd say that, being less than a week away from being a 40-year-old woman.

carl agatha, Saturday, 17 November 2012 14:49 (eleven years ago) link

Ha turning 40 means unapologetically putting ice in my wine and saying to hell with consistent hyphenation!

carl agatha, Saturday, 17 November 2012 14:50 (eleven years ago) link

Oh booberry, it pains me to see you so uncharacteristically affected by this bday. Your reaction is totally valid and all that, I just normally think of you as someone who deals w/ age and such w/ equanimity & a fuck the haters attitude. Because that's the case, I just want to tell you to think about what carl agatha who was not turning 40 would tell another woman who was not looking forward to turning 40 and I'm certain her counsel would be 1000% OTM. Plus, to the extent that 40 means anything at all, you're going to be a cool 40 b/c of who you are and your experiences and b/c you will make it so.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Saturday, 17 November 2012 15:07 (eleven years ago) link

People regularly ordered those Over The Hill things when I was a florist. Enough so that I just remembered that "OTH" was a common abbreviation.

Another thing was dead-flower arrangements (wilted flowers, roses painted black) w/ OTH mylar balloons, and a couple half-floating black balloons. Gosh, people at the office really got a ~kick~ out of those!!! lololak;ds;lajds barf

je55e otm

also (Someone said to me the other day that salsa dancing is for college kids and 40-year old women, which 1) what's wrong with salsa dancing?* and 2) fuck you!)
