ya bish called wanda (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 13 November 2012 04:34 (eleven years ago) link

McDonald's sketch was a+

Raymond Cummings, Tuesday, 13 November 2012 04:38 (eleven years ago) link

I don't like Anne Hathaway much, but her Katie Holmes and her Claire Danes were both pretty amazing. Especially that Holmes - she had it down perfectly.

I was on the fence about Jeremy Renner, but these are pretty fucking great

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 14 November 2012 21:23 (eleven years ago) link

Why is the Ellen skit not on Hulu then?

boxall, Thursday, 15 November 2012 03:39 (eleven years ago) link

music clearances, maybe?

Gukbe, Thursday, 15 November 2012 03:41 (eleven years ago) link

Not that funny, maybe?

Metal Archies (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 15 November 2012 04:10 (eleven years ago) link

The "your childhood home" ad was pretty spot-on writing.

s.clover, Sunday, 18 November 2012 04:57 (eleven years ago) link

I'm so short my sneakers are in my drivers license photo.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 18 November 2012 05:40 (eleven years ago) link

yeah excellent williams impersonation. not actually funnier or different than williams himself, just dead-on.

s.clover, Sunday, 18 November 2012 05:51 (eleven years ago) link

How did Taran Killam not break in that final sketch when Hader had his hands all over him?

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 18 November 2012 06:07 (eleven years ago) link

He just thought about the previous 90 minutes

Panaïs Pnin (The Yellow Kid), Sunday, 18 November 2012 06:22 (eleven years ago) link

Kind of shocked there was no Bobby Moynihan/Guy Fieri bit. And other than "your childhood home" and the drones cartoon, fucking dud.

5-Hour Enmity (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 18 November 2012 06:37 (eleven years ago) link

did not like the drones cartoon.

I liked the Stand Off.

dan selzer, Sunday, 18 November 2012 06:37 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, I thought The Stand Off was pretty funny. Your Childhood Home was too. Drones was lame.

Kenan was in the promos with Renner, but only made one appearance in The Californians tonight, right? What a waste.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 18 November 2012 06:40 (eleven years ago) link

I really wish The Californians didn't exist.

5-Hour Enmity (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 18 November 2012 06:42 (eleven years ago) link

almost died during the first californians but yeah it's done

Gukbe, Sunday, 18 November 2012 06:48 (eleven years ago) link

I would stan for The Californians. Before the last two.

Until the morgue sketch I think the comedic high point was Tim Robinson in drag during the Petraeus sketch. I feel like everyone's timing was a little bit off tonight or something.

Metal Archies (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 18 November 2012 11:56 (eleven years ago) link

How did Taran Killam not break in that final sketch when Hader had his hands all over him?

Killam is a total pro.

Jake Roo (jaymc), Sunday, 18 November 2012 16:04 (eleven years ago) link

I think Hader must've made a bet with Killam or something, because he also tried to get him to break in The Californians (the drawn-out "yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyou").

5-Hour Enmity (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 18 November 2012 17:54 (eleven years ago) link

In case we weren't clear, Christie is the worst.

s.clover, Sunday, 18 November 2012 18:01 (eleven years ago) link

Chris Christie
* Governor *

Did anyone catch the "words with friends chat" joke in the winners/losers segment?

passion it person (La Lechera), Sunday, 18 November 2012 21:30 (eleven years ago) link

a+

s.clover, Sunday, 18 November 2012 21:31 (eleven years ago) link

It sounded like nobody in that audience got the Katt "this right here" joke.

boxall, Monday, 19 November 2012 03:10 (eleven years ago) link

Kind of shocked there was no Bobby Moynihan/Guy Fieri bit.

didn't make the cut...

dan selzer, Monday, 19 November 2012 15:14 (eleven years ago) link

Cool Drones was fantastic, you guys are cray. Your Childhood Home was better though. That was literally the worst cold open I've ever seen on this show.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 19 November 2012 15:27 (eleven years ago) link

didn't make the cut...

is there a version of this that can be seen in the outside world?

good naber He help get undr control (sic), Monday, 19 November 2012 22:48 (eleven years ago) link

Probably not. SNL and NBC are among the shows/networks who keep the tightest controls on their content.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 19 November 2012 22:51 (eleven years ago) link

Cool Drones was such a fucking abortion

Think about the amount of attention to detail Robert Smigel/TV Funhouse paid to 70s and 80s cartoons (like the Mr T bit) and the amount of attention Lonely Island/Andy Samberg paid to 90s R&B bands (like "Dick in a Box") (or Mr. Show's One Plus One Minus One even) and you can really see what a diharrea stream of half-remembered "references" that skit was. It was seriously like the creators only remembered "cartoons" and "boy bands" from comedy sketches they'd seen about about them.

tome crues (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 22 November 2012 00:04 (eleven years ago) link

Agreed

dan selzer, Thursday, 22 November 2012 00:51 (eleven years ago) link

yeah that cartoon was a sad TV Funhouse knockoff, i hope Smigel called up Lorne and yelled at him after it aired

The Doc Morbama (some dude), Saturday, 24 November 2012 02:31 (eleven years ago) link

two weeks pass...

Dennis Perrin on the memorial for Tom Davis in Studio 8H:

Murray recalled how Tom saved him in a meeting, when Murray was new to the cast and dying slowly each week. Murray pitched Nick the Lounge Singer, but had no ending for it. Tom said, "I'll help Billy finish the sketch," which Murray confessed reversed his fortunes on the show. Murray choked up a bit remembering Tom, and spoke of the love he had for many in the room.

Franken verged on tears through much of his eulogy. He painted an impressionistic picture of Franken and Davis, starting as teens cracking each other up in a Minneapolis basement, learning their craft in LA clubs before moving east to work on SNL. Success, shared joy, disappointment, eventual break up — Franken and Davis experienced it all. You saw this history in Franken's expressions, something he did little to hide.

The concluding point, shared by all the speakers, was that Tom was a model for how to die. No self-pity. No anger. Acceptance of fate. Embracement of life. The last time I saw Tom he was clearly wasting away, yet he mocked his cancer while remaining upbeat. According to his wife, Mimi Raleigh, Tom left this world with a smile on his face. I definitely believe that.

2 chainz

johnny crunch, Sunday, 9 December 2012 05:02 (eleven years ago) link

shouldve been a 1/2 hr 2 chainz set considering how bad the 1st 30 mins of this show was

johnny crunch, Sunday, 9 December 2012 05:17 (eleven years ago) link

thought this was irredeemable until Mulroney and Maine

Gukbe, Sunday, 9 December 2012 05:44 (eleven years ago) link

Maine Justice is fucking ALL-TIME! Best sketch I've seen on SNL in years.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 9 December 2012 05:45 (eleven years ago) link

"once I got banged to death, then I got banged back to life after five minutes. thanks crystals!"

some dude, Sunday, 9 December 2012 05:56 (eleven years ago) link

xp are you... serious?

flopson, Sunday, 9 December 2012 06:14 (eleven years ago) link

Absolutely.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 9 December 2012 06:16 (eleven years ago) link

D-:

flopson, Sunday, 9 December 2012 06:17 (eleven years ago) link

It would've been even funnier if they hadn't explained why these cajuns were all in Maine, but even with that it was still the most batshit and exuberant sketch in recent memory. Sudeikis channeling Carvey was ace, Foxx breaking uncontrollably, Charlie Day cameo, Mardi Gras band as the button, "hush your butts!", everything.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 9 December 2012 06:22 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, I was laughing all through that. Sorry, flopson.

endless budgie (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 9 December 2012 08:59 (eleven years ago) link

Maine Justice was absolutely shockingly good

Clay, Sunday, 9 December 2012 11:23 (eleven years ago) link

i missed the rest of the episode so i think my expectations were just relatively un-lowered compared to yours, presuming you watched it from the beginning

flopson, Sunday, 9 December 2012 21:01 (eleven years ago) link

rest of the episode up to that sketch

This was great. "Gamour!"

and I scream Fieri Eiffel Tower High (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Sunday, 9 December 2012 21:16 (eleven years ago) link

yeah. last sketch before the end is hit-or-miss but always at least tries to be a sketch.

s.clover, Sunday, 9 December 2012 23:21 (eleven years ago) link

Traditionally, the final sketch has been the repository of bland shittiness/shitty blandness. But weirdly, they've started keeping some of the best sketches for the end. What, are they trying to ensure everyone stays tuned for Live From Daryl's House?

(at least, that's what comes on my NBC station after SNL)
