What you are actually paying for:A piece of chewing gumHarvesting of sugarFactory equipment for mixing & molding gum, plus packaging itOperators of equipment, plus their trainingTransporting said gum across the sea and to your local store
Not to mention:Awesome hubba-bubba cartoons on the back of comic books

As a local promoter who regularly spends fucking hours of his spare time designing flyers, stumping up money for printing, paying money to hire venues, soundmen, security people, dealing with greedy management companies, handling primadonna no-name bandmembers, organising riders, sacrificing weeks of my time on promo blogs and bludgeoning social media bollocks, fretting over attendance figures, door prices and everything else involved in running a successful night while receiving little-to-no personal remuneration whatosever from my endeavours, this kind of thing makes me want to stab whoever wrote it in the face over and over and over again

Nothing worse than some small-time artist who believes that just because they learnt some scales and spent a bit of time in a studio it means they're owed a living. It's this kind of cunt who goes round painting promoters as soulless, money-grubbing industrymen as opposed to music fans who work in the call centre all day and stay up till 3am most nights for fear of having to cough-up out their own pockets if the night isn't a success.

I'm not saying people don't deserve to be paid for what they deserve, but expecting promoters to stump up large amounts of cash just because 'WAAAAH I have to pay for my own guitar strings and I don't wanna work in the call centre' is such a load of bullshit. There's this local semi-pro hiphop producer I know who regularly moans on Facebook that rappers have the audacity to ask to use his beats for free. He once called me up asking if I had any DJ gigs going, and when I said we had an hour slot after the bands finish, he said "Great, I'll do it for £100". Considering the most I can charge on the door is about a fiver before people stop showing up and average attendance is between 70-110 people, this is completely unrealistic.
I have never made any money from promoting - any profit I turn over goes straight into the next night and I've built these into the best series of gig/club nights in my local area over the course of 6 years. It's largely thankless work, save for a few good words from the local live music community but I do it because I love my scene and I want to keep it running.
So when people start calling small-time promoters out as tightwad meanies with a big Scrooge McDuck-style pool of money at home in which they swim at the end of the day chuckling to themselves about how they successfully ripped off another poor amateur band, I get very very fucked off indeed. The fact these types of macros get circulated around Facebook on a regular basis destroys our reputations, gives musicians an inflated sense of worth and ultimately kills grassroots music scenes.
It's this kind of shite that's made me have to take a step back from promoting as it's actually costing me more money to put on shows than it's making me, not to mention the time. I spent two months putting together a very successful (by local standards) Halloween show this year and came out £80 down. So seeing amateur musicians demanding a living wage for doing something that is, essentially, a hobby, well that racks me off. The truth is if you want to get to that stage you have to work for it, and you often have to work for little or nothing - and yes, it's hard hard work and it's expensive, and that's why people have day jobs.

If you rap about shooting people, smoking blunts, wearing timbs, drinking hennessy, and whatever else, I'll buy your music. If you rap about your girl, but don't call her a bitch, fuck you. If you rap about the economy and how its hurts migrant workers, fuck you. If you rap about your rap telekenisis or some equally retarded nerd shit, fuck you.
