Winston getting Schmidt to go out searching for crack was so good.

OTM!

EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 11 January 2013 02:12 (eleven years ago) link

Everything about that plot line was amazing

The cabin story fizzled for me aside from the absinthe reactions, which were pretty lol

Solange Knowles is my hero (DJP), Friday, 11 January 2013 14:17 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, that was a little boring to me. I don't really care about the relationship drama on this show.

Solange and thanks for all the fish (Nicole), Friday, 11 January 2013 14:18 (eleven years ago) link

found the idea that schmidt would really be that clueless abt Winston kinda far fetched

max, Friday, 11 January 2013 14:22 (eleven years ago) link

my favorite part of that whole sequence (aside from Nick and Cece being "oh hell no" when Schmidt first broached race with them) is when Winston accused Schmidt of thinking Winston smoked crack because he was black and Schmidt saying he thought Winston smoked crack because that's what Winston had just told him

Solange Knowles is my hero (DJP), Friday, 11 January 2013 14:41 (eleven years ago) link

i loved that the drug dealer was just some dude named rob who thought they were trying to rob him

Solange Knowles is my hero (DJP), Friday, 11 January 2013 14:47 (eleven years ago) link

yeah it was a great handling of the storyline i wouldve just appreciated like one line explaining why schmidt apparently doesnt know his best friend in the world very well at all

max, Friday, 11 January 2013 14:48 (eleven years ago) link

not saying it wasn't a stretch, but it was funny enough that I didn't really care

Solange Knowles is my hero (DJP), Friday, 11 January 2013 14:51 (eleven years ago) link

(also I thought Nick was Schmidt's best friend in the world? I assume Winston and Nick are closer to each other because they grew up together)

Solange Knowles is my hero (DJP), Friday, 11 January 2013 14:54 (eleven years ago) link

schmidt's description of jewish soul food was also hilarious

Mordy, Friday, 11 January 2013 14:58 (eleven years ago) link

Schmidt as a character is not in touch with reality to the point that it didn't bother. probably one of the best (funniest/not offensive) sitcom plots about race that i've ever seen.

Has a sitcom ever had a good cabin story?

trishyb, Friday, 11 January 2013 15:59 (eleven years ago) link

Do the scary stories in the last Community Halloween episode count?

Cheers and Seinfeld both had classic cabin episodes, wtf kinda theory is this that they're inherently bad

three weeks pass...

i got sick this week and caught up with the past season. still kinda embarrassed about it, but i do really enjoy this show

Nhex, Sunday, 3 February 2013 19:48 (eleven years ago) link

get your crap together, india

j., Friday, 8 February 2013 09:58 (eleven years ago) link

i really like this show again. the odd episode disappoints - like the one with rob reiner in it - but any episode with that game they play, true american, is a keeper. also, i'm gonna cast winston as roast beef in my eventual live-action achewood movie project.

SOYLENT GREEN IS SHEEPLE (stevie), Monday, 11 February 2013 23:15 (eleven years ago) link

they showed this on a plane a few weeks ago and while I only laughed at one part I was impressed by how tolerable Zooey's character was

frogbs, Monday, 11 February 2013 23:18 (eleven years ago) link

I love this show.

they all are afflicted with a sickness of existence (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 12 February 2013 07:40 (eleven years ago) link

man, schmidt's whole speech about how india had to get its shit together really pissed me off. that whole episode really annoyed me. i'm pretty sure all the guys at that dating thing didn't need douche schmidt to tell them cece was very hot for them to actually realise it and go talk with her.

Jibe, Friday, 15 February 2013 13:04 (eleven years ago) link

i thought that was a little much

Nhex, Friday, 15 February 2013 13:20 (eleven years ago) link

one month passes...

boy some episodes of this seem like they're about ready to collapse

j., Thursday, 21 March 2013 07:49 (eleven years ago) link

if they're taking Jess and Nick through a horrifically destructive relationship this may be a good direction. i doubt it though

Nhex, Friday, 22 March 2013 14:32 (eleven years ago) link

If Jess disappeared the show would instantly be exponentially better.

Simon H., Friday, 22 March 2013 15:08 (eleven years ago) link

they could replace her with another wacky female roommate played by Kristen Schaal

Darth Icky (DJP), Friday, 22 March 2013 15:19 (eleven years ago) link

Gonna be honest, would give up on the show is she wasn't on it. I'm weak.

Nhex, Friday, 22 March 2013 15:52 (eleven years ago) link

then after two years, Kristen Schaal could be replaced by Anna Feris

yes

maybe around season 8 Big Bang Theory will have finished so Kaley Cuoco or Melissa Rauch could come on board

also I'm pretty sure Megan Good will need a job at some point

Darth Icky (DJP), Friday, 22 March 2013 17:23 (eleven years ago) link

i think they've ditched almost all of the 'eccentricities' by this point.

though there was a little bit of jess's nervous sex voice on the recent ep.

j., Friday, 22 March 2013 17:30 (eleven years ago) link

haha they have in no way ditched the eccentricities, we're just used to them now

also they made each of the guys equally crazy so she doesn't stick out nearly as much as the pilot would make you think

Darth Icky (DJP), Friday, 22 March 2013 17:43 (eleven years ago) link

since when did she make up a song about something?? (that was always the real sticker for me)

j., Friday, 22 March 2013 17:51 (eleven years ago) link

This show is really great. I've been worried about the Nick/Jess storyline capsizing the whole thing ever since the Ross/Rachel-Sam/Diane dynamic first raised its head in season 1, but now I reckon they'll handle whatever comes inventively.

I haven't seen an episode since "Table 34" but she definitely did it in "A Father's Love" and I think it also happened in "Pepperwood" and "Cooler"

Darth Icky (DJP), Friday, 22 March 2013 17:54 (eleven years ago) link

her singing is still in the show. sorry!

Nhex, Friday, 22 March 2013 18:14 (eleven years ago) link

Since pretty early on, like the first ep with lizzy caplan, they've done a kind of brilliant job of alternately critiquing/defending/ridiculing/embracing the 'adorkable zooey persona' that got the show on the air in the first place

Stephen Thomas Duttywine (some dude), Friday, 22 March 2013 18:26 (eleven years ago) link

exactly. I was bummed at first, figured they'd put it off till later. Then I was like ok, they're going there, but it didn't work so now they've moved on and they'll eventually come back to it. Instead they're accepting it's there and just having fun playing with it.

dan selzer, Friday, 22 March 2013 19:12 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i'm fine w/ zooey now, which i couldn't have predicted even back when i started liking the show. i would love it if there were a perpetual new girl though. lol @ dan if he think big bang is gonna wrap after 8 seasons, which is kinda a shame cuz i would like to see cuoco working w/ better scripts but at the same time good for her for getting paid serious money which is what happens in the later seasons.

balls, Friday, 22 March 2013 23:10 (eleven years ago) link

they're doing a better job w/ winston also. should i go back and watch the first season of this at some point? pretty big lizzy caplan fan fwiw.

balls, Friday, 22 March 2013 23:11 (eleven years ago) link

I haven't seen an episode since "Table 34" but she definitely did it in "A Father's Love" and I think it also happened in "Pepperwood" and "Cooler"

i guess but doesn't it seem like the balance was real out of whack early on, when they seemed to want to define her as (among other things) 'this girl who sings everything!'? and it's gone from whatever that would be, as a trait of a character, to something more likeā€¦ one affectation/quirk among many of one character among eccentric other characters

j., Saturday, 23 March 2013 00:19 (eleven years ago) link

I also thought they'd toned down her character's 'quirkiness' quite a bit (including the singing) but they seemed to be bringing it back in "Quick-Hardening Caulk" (probably why it was slightly disappointing to me).

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 23 March 2013 00:22 (eleven years ago) link

Winston was the absolute best character. I would watch a spin off with him.

Yerac, Thursday, 17 May 2018 12:56 (five years ago) link

I am reading the summaries of the episodes from this season. I missed a couple (I really didn't like the first 2 epis) but the wedding episode was great and I am excited about the True American last epi. When I think of New Girl I think of True American and Winston.
