congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 29 November 2012 19:06 (eleven years ago) link

the problem is i have no songwriting motivation these days. i want someone else to write good songs and i come up with cool guitar parts.

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 29 November 2012 19:08 (eleven years ago) link

Too bad you can't pull some Dennis Quaid in Dreamscape move because I'm constantly writing songs in my sleep that I can't remember when I wake up. I would let you have all of them.

Long but interesting article about people who fake cancer on the internet for attention.

carl agatha, Thursday, 29 November 2012 20:22 (eleven years ago) link

There was a student in my degree program in college who kind of famously did that. She's at Harvard now.

Hey, just popping in here, as well, to say that I'm prolly going to that free Tortoise/Sea & Cake show @ Empty Bottle on the 20th and will readily and happily identify myself to any ILXors who are present despite my previous IRL anonymity. I'm back in Chicago now and wanna extend muchas gracias to jaymc and Je55e and carl agatha and whoever else expressed appreciation for my previous DW Haircare persona before I exploded it. Hope you find Old Lunch to be an acceptable replacement. I don't post on ILX as much as I used to but I'll try to make a point of checking in on this thread more when I do. Because y'all are alright in my book.

Tangy Flavor Nuggets™ (Old Lunch), Monday, 3 December 2012 02:18 (eleven years ago) link

See you there dingdong!!

passion it person (La Lechera), Monday, 3 December 2012 02:22 (eleven years ago) link

I hope you know I mean that in the friendliest possible way. Do any of you other ppl want to join me? Free w/ RSVP!!

passion it person (La Lechera), Monday, 3 December 2012 03:16 (eleven years ago) link

But of course. 'Dingaling', however, might've sparked a rumble. Even as leader of the pack, my metaphorical grip on the satin sleeves of the Lincoln Square Squabblers is tenuous at best.

Tangy Flavor Nuggets™ (Old Lunch), Monday, 3 December 2012 03:38 (eleven years ago) link

Ha, I wondered what happened to good ol' DW Haircare. I liked him.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 3 December 2012 03:46 (eleven years ago) link

Oh shit, hi! I'm glad you're still around, and while I will miss your previous name, this one works, too. It's made me think.

I didn't know anything about that show, but if it's free and it comes w/ Lunch, then I'm in. Was that enough RSVP, or do I need to do anything else?

Also, areas close to the lakefront were eerily beautiful tonight with the thick, creepy blankets of fog slinking around. Turns out windy fog is pretty great.

hey OL, welcome back

Thanks, dudes. It's good to be back (Chicago)/here (Chicago ILX thread).

I'm not going to meet any more people unless I know their real names first.

Jeff, Monday, 3 December 2012 05:32 (eleven years ago) link

Fair enough: Harold Lunchberg, pleased to make your acquaintance.

hey btw that movie i posted about upthread? society? it was banananananas -- if you gis you will see why, but i can't encourage anyone to do that at this hour.

the argento movie was pretty good, but the print had probs.

passion it person (La Lechera), Monday, 3 December 2012 14:13 (eleven years ago) link

Oh yeah, I'll be at that Empty Bottle show. Looking forward to it -- it's being billed as "weird sets for the hometown weirdos," which should be interesting, since I've seen both bands play a bunch of times.

Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Monday, 3 December 2012 14:36 (eleven years ago) link

i knew you would come through!

passion it person (La Lechera), Monday, 3 December 2012 14:38 (eleven years ago) link

But of course. I think robotsinlove will be there, too.

Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Monday, 3 December 2012 14:47 (eleven years ago) link

my friend is coming in from new york, you guys will be there, this is shaping up to be a top notch 20th birthday party imo
also: semester will be over. over over over over over over over.

passion it person (La Lechera), Monday, 3 December 2012 14:49 (eleven years ago) link

I guess I should've thought to say something when I RSVP'd, but I didn't think anyone else on here cared much about Tortoise/TSAC.

Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Monday, 3 December 2012 14:51 (eleven years ago) link

it's more about a bunch of coincidental events colliding at the same ideal time. also hey i like tortoise and the sea and cake. i liked thrill jockey in the 90s, and i continue to buy stuff from them today. in fact, i tried to get you guys to listen to alexander tucker a while ago -- he put out a really good album this year on thrill jockey (third mouth - it's on spotify and has a rabbit on the cover)

they've never let me down, really! happy birthday thrill jockey, and happy end of semester to me. also lots of friends will be there! that's why i'm psyched about going.

the end

passion it person (La Lechera), Monday, 3 December 2012 15:01 (eleven years ago) link

Fuck this weather. This is not the December I moved north for. I want SNOW and I want LOTS OF IT.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Monday, 3 December 2012 16:58 (eleven years ago) link

It's making my hair wavy. I'll dwi.gif since it means I get to have at least one more day of awesome running weather this year.

Jeff, Monday, 3 December 2012 17:01 (eleven years ago) link

Run in the snow, IMO. Get treads on your shoes. Put your boobs into it.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Monday, 3 December 2012 17:15 (eleven years ago) link

I do, in all conditions. Some are just more pleasurable than others.

just sayin
Chicago live music but not like blues bars with old people or ~jazz club~ unless it's the Green Mill

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 15:29 (eleven years ago) link

Jon Williams will be pissed.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 18:15 (eleven years ago) link

lol, I wonder if the change to Gap will be accompanied by an upgrade in preaching style.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 18:16 (eleven years ago) link

I approve of the change. Gap is somewhat less shit than Old Navy. Quite a bit, actually.

I feel sure they won't close the MI Ave. location, after all they have kept their 2 Banana Republics (flagship and Water Tower Place) open within a block of each other for a long time, even though that seems like excess.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 18:19 (eleven years ago) link

As long as there's an Old Navy somewhere for me to buy cheap jeans when these wear out. Everything else there fits like it was made for people with extra nodules and contours and appendages than I was unaware humans possessed.

I will miss the preacher if he goes away, though. I greatly enjoyed standing next to him with a grave expression and loudly going "BA! BA BA BA BA BABA BA! BA! BA!" to passersby. You probably had to be there, but trust me, we had a really great time together. Or maybe he just didn't register his disapproval distinctly enough for me to notice. Either way.

UPDATE: (9:40 a.m.) According to DNAinfo.com, this was the third time in a week that gunfire broke out at one of DJ Jay Thompson's, 24, aka DJ JT Da Don, shows. The other incidents were "at a house party and barber shop parties on the West Side." He told DNAinfo.com, "After last night, I need to change my career path"

today on my walk to work i saw a guy standing under a tree holding his head while a giant blue recliner/armchair was sitting in the middle of the sidewalk. it looked like he was turning the corner into his living room, and i was like "nice place to sit, eh?" and he said yeah i'm just taking a rest. apparently he was carrying this giant blue chair that he found in an alley back to his apt and was just taking a break because it was really heavy and hard to carry. i feel bad for not offering to help but i was already carrying work bag and purse and headed in the opposite direction. should i have helped him?

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 5 December 2012 19:05 (eleven years ago) link

I just walked past Rev. Old Navy and though it would be nice to stand next to him and hand out cigarettes. "Heaven doesn't exist. Smoke up!"

carl agatha, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 20:55 (eleven years ago) link

I guess this should go in the show thread but I feel like it is not quite the same audience... I really want to go see the Holiday Brass and Chorale Concert next Friday but I'm already going to the opera on Wednesday (Hansel and Gretel! It's getting really good reviews. But then again, nobody ever really pans the Lyric...) and that's a lot of late night performing arts in one week. But dang, I bet that's going to be really good.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 5 December 2012 20:57 (eleven years ago) link

Having read the play and knowing the actors and director, the new show at Steppenwolf, The Motherfucker with the Hat, should be great.
