You get extra points if you tear the shrinkwrap off the record only at the opening buy rubbing it against your jeans. In the computer.

can we still things in old list view or are we forced to look at a bunch of album covers and grey squares with musical notes in them

just switch back to "songs" view instead of artists or albums and it looks like good old iTunes 10.

Nice. I switched to Songs, but my playlist is still playing. Old iTunes would just figure you don't want to hear that playlist anymore.

I hate itunes so I figured it couldn't get any worse and upgraded. nothing appears broken... yet...

CGI fridays (Edward III), Thursday, 29 November 2012 19:43 (eleven years ago) link

I just upgraded my work computer out of curiosity even though I spend about 95% of my time using Spotify

There's a command-line setting that updates the iTunes album rating to the Pitchfork rating number and then alert you if you try to listen to anything rated lower than 5 (or whatever threshold you want)

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 29 November 2012 19:47 (eleven years ago) link

I use it to fix mp3 tags and backup my iphone/ipad, that's about it

xp

CGI fridays (Edward III), Thursday, 29 November 2012 19:48 (eleven years ago) link

Luckily nothing on my label was ever below 5. Only one 10 though.

dan selzer, Thursday, 29 November 2012 19:48 (eleven years ago) link

its scrolling faster...but that may just be because it's a fresh install.

dan selzer, Thursday, 29 November 2012 19:49 (eleven years ago) link

hmmm

it started "updating iTunes Library" and is now a frozen mess

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Thursday, 29 November 2012 19:51 (eleven years ago) link

I don't really have any music on my work computer (just a few podcasts) and it showed a bunch of albums in album view with the little cloud icon. I guess it now automatically shows everything you've purchased. Kind of wondering if I want to turn that off.

mh, Thursday, 29 November 2012 19:51 (eleven years ago) link

THEY ADDED TRACK QUEUING!

you no longer have to make a playlist to tell it to play a handful of songs in order, thanking you apple

mayor mcpotle (mh), Thursday, 29 November 2012 20:08 (eleven years ago) link

Didn't you used to be able to do that with PARTY SHUFFLE?

Alba, Thursday, 29 November 2012 20:09 (eleven years ago) link

all your music is listed as if it were being displayed on the wall of amoeba xp

wallocoverart

炒面kampf (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 29 November 2012 20:11 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, you did. did they axe that a while ago? I can't remember

mayor mcpotle (mh), Thursday, 29 November 2012 20:12 (eleven years ago) link

Alba OTM, that functionality has always been there

I know it's "different" and "new" and that is fueling my initial reaction but OMG I FUCKING HATE THE ALBUM DISPLAY

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Thursday, 29 November 2012 20:13 (eleven years ago) link

wait, how do I get rid of "cloud" albums

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Thursday, 29 November 2012 20:14 (eleven years ago) link

you need to blow them away

Preferences -> Store

mayor mcpotle (mh), Thursday, 29 November 2012 20:17 (eleven years ago) link

tbh I'm tempted to just log out of the store

I loves you, PORGI (DJP), Thursday, 29 November 2012 20:19 (eleven years ago) link

with only a few minutes of looking at view options/prefs, it's not that hard to get it back to looking/acting just like it used to.

What I want is a combination of the song list with the Artist grouping, the way the old Album by Artist sort view worked. I can kind of get that by displaying all artists under the Artists view, but the songs are still listed in two columns rather than in the spreadsheet-esque manner I want, with info like play count etc.

How do I set this so I have a view that shows me the cover art and various details about the songs in my library without having to click back and forth between different views?

probably demanded by major labels to "drive consumer engagement"

cutting it a bit fine. dunno why they invested so much in making a desktop thinner, of all things, rather than just making better.

jed_, Thursday, 29 November 2012 22:45 (eleven years ago) link

apple ran out of ideas

炒面kampf (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 29 November 2012 22:52 (eleven years ago) link

you can never be too rich or too thin.

jed_, Thursday, 29 November 2012 22:53 (eleven years ago) link

i'm not gonna lie, the thinness is totally enough to push me over the edge into upgrading my current iMac

Nhex, Thursday, 29 November 2012 23:18 (eleven years ago) link

wait i was totally looking for the new itunes earlier today, had no idea it was out. ended up downloading tomahawk instead, which i think might be totally awesome?? at least for more "social" situations

(you just search for whatever song you want and it finds it locally, on soundcloud, youtube, spotify, etc, and plays it)

well if it isn't old 11 cameras simon (gbx), Thursday, 29 November 2012 23:35 (eleven years ago) link

Now I just feel bad, I installed iTunes 11 at home and it did the "updating library" part in about five seconds

mayor mcpotle (mh), Thursday, 29 November 2012 23:40 (eleven years ago) link

Kind of mind=blown that the new mac minis get equal geekbench scores as my 2008 Pro.

stet, Friday, 30 November 2012 00:01 (eleven years ago) link

Are they over 11k? My old-ass upgraded pro could maybe hit it.

mayor mcpotle (mh), Friday, 30 November 2012 04:58 (eleven years ago) link

Yes, 11.2k. Amazin

stet, Friday, 30 November 2012 08:55 (eleven years ago) link

unlocked iphone 5 for sale in US, but it's the AT&T model, not the cooler verizon model that does both 3G and international LTE. fuckers

i'm really annoyed that i can't sort alpha by artist then chronologically by albums in 11

also the Up Next fucktionality completely ruined my workflow using the ios remote apps

Live "now playing" info for internet radio not available in the new Mini Player. Fuck!

WilliamC, Friday, 30 November 2012 17:20 (eleven years ago) link

Has anyone here ever ordered from Expercom? (Apple reseller based in Utah.) They can do custom configuring on an iMac and maxing out RAM to 32Gb with their memory would cost $200 as opposed to $600 with Apple memory. Good idea, bad idea?

WilliamC, Friday, 30 November 2012 18:25 (eleven years ago) link

I'm still convinced iTunes 11 is faster.

dan selzer, Friday, 30 November 2012 18:27 (eleven years ago) link

it is!

mayor mcpotle (mh), Friday, 30 November 2012 18:49 (eleven years ago) link

I am afear'd that 16GB may not be enough, but my 32GB iphone 3GS is currently half empty

乒乓, Saturday, 1 December 2012 16:01 (eleven years ago) link

Running iTunes 11 on my new maxed out MacMini. It's faster but the sheer size of my library combined with the slower connection (USB -- don't ask) means I really need to get a Thunderbolt drive here soon, because searching the library causes the spinning wheel to kick in each time for at least a minute.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 1 December 2012 16:03 (eleven years ago) link

slower connection to what?
