Then DISREGARD/IGNORE

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 18:25 (eleven years ago) link

double ignore for steampunk

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 18:25 (eleven years ago) link

Kind of funny, though, inasmuch as it feels right.

If you like scientific breakdowns of Chicago's neighborhoods, here's an interesting one that compares the types of waste disposed: http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/The-312/December-2012-1/A-Look-at-Chicago-Through-Its-Trash/

Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 18:31 (eleven years ago) link

Tho I don't know enough about either Edison Park or Staten Island to say whether that one makes sense.

Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 18:33 (eleven years ago) link

(Re the steampunkers' map.)

Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 18:33 (eleven years ago) link

I feel cheated, Lechera promised me she lived in the equivalent of the Bronx.

grossly incorrect register (in orbit), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 18:34 (eleven years ago) link

I just mean what are his criteria? Population? Ethnic composition? Poverty/wealth? Geography? Access to transportation? General ~vibe~ according to him? Stuff like this drives me nuts.

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 18:36 (eleven years ago) link

I'm sure a lot of it is ~vibe~. Like, "Brooklyn" is the hipster enclaves of Logan Square, Wicker Park, Pilsen. "Queens" is working-class white, "Bronx" is working-class Latino.

Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 18:41 (eleven years ago) link

Ok then I officially don't care about that map.

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 18:43 (eleven years ago) link

BTW I only said the Bronx because when I went there (once) the train ride was roughly the same length from the place I was staying in Brooklyn as my train ride from home to a similarly located place. My comparison was unscientific and poorly informed at best. I just wanted to illustrate time, distance, and effort required to get from one place to another.

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 18:48 (eleven years ago) link

it should be like a middle ages-style map with a massive compass and "WARNING: HERE THERE BE HYPSTERS" in calligraphy and ornate illustrations of cheap tacos and frat boys and strawmen

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 18:51 (eleven years ago) link

i bet if i made prints of that, people would buy it. too bad i'm lazy!!!!! ;)

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 18:51 (eleven years ago) link

haha

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 18:53 (eleven years ago) link

I'm just gonna ask this here because I know one of you will know the answer -- who is responsible for that current top pop hit song that sounds exactly like the Police?

passion it person (La Lechera), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 19:10 (eleven years ago) link

Bruno Mars, "Locked Out of Heaven". I've not liked him before, but that one is really growing on me.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 19:13 (eleven years ago) link

Not sure I've heard that one? I was going to guess Gotye.

Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 19:18 (eleven years ago) link

Garfield Park?
No thonx.

I know that I have a disgusting mind, but the second column made me pause, re-read, pause, then chuckle.

It totally is Bruno Mars! I swear, within the first 10 seconds you can hear The Police. Not a bad song, at least I don't hate it.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 19:24 (eleven years ago) link

Yep, I was 100% confident that that was the song you were thinking of, as I thought the exact same thing within 10 seconds of the first time I heard it.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 19:28 (eleven years ago) link

So far today I've listened to Big Black, The Jesus Lizard, and Monster Magnet so I am clearly in some kind of a mood.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 12 December 2012 19:30 (eleven years ago) link

Going back to the map, the whole "South Side of Chicago" part is what really puts me off, because it's a total cop out and makes me think the jackass has never been south of like Roosevelt.

dansplaining (dan m), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 19:36 (eleven years ago) link

dan m otm, like he's saying, "I don't even know how to deal with or process this huge area I'm too scared to even think about so we'll just leave it at that"

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 19:38 (eleven years ago) link

There's an article in the New Yorker this week about Trent Reznor, so today I've been listening to the excellent The Social Network soundtrack, which I seem to recall Kenan sent me.

Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 19:38 (eleven years ago) link

Someone on NPR was talking about Bruno Mars last night and they played a bit of that song. I immediately thought "that sounds like Stewart Copeland's drumming" and like 30 seconds later the reviewer referenced the Police.

dansplaining (dan m), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 19:38 (eleven years ago) link

Its a pretty fantastic Police homage, at least that's how I think of it.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 19:39 (eleven years ago) link

i'm listening to "i'm different" by 2 chainz over and over, it's the dumbest song but it has an amazing chorus that i just want to walk around yelling at people

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 20:16 (eleven years ago) link

Going back to the map, the whole "South Side of Chicago" part is what really puts me off, because it's a total cop out and makes me think the jackass has never been south of like Roosevelt.

I actually took it as a joke about the singularity of the South Side, but I'm probably being too charitable.

Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 20:17 (eleven years ago) link

this is how it goes:

i'm different yeah i'm different
i'm different yeah i'm different
i'm different yeah i'm different

yeah my interpretation was similar to jaymc's

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 20:18 (eleven years ago) link

I thought it was a scathing commentary on common non-South Siders' perception of the South Side. Or what j and n said I guess.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 20:59 (eleven years ago) link

On his facebook page he just says the whole thing is a joke.

dansplaining (dan m), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 21:12 (eleven years ago) link

I went through a period of obsession with that 2 Chainz song too, it's ridiculously stupid and ridiculously difficult to not want to shout the hook at people.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 22:08 (eleven years ago) link

Ha, my wife thought the Bruno was the Police, too. I thought it was so shameless it had to have something to do with Maroon 5.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 12 December 2012 22:36 (eleven years ago) link

Yo, I'll be at the half acre tap room tonight for a tweet up of beer nerds, if any of you in the area want to drop by. It's bring your own Instagram.

Jeff, Wednesday, 12 December 2012 22:39 (eleven years ago) link

that sounds fun but i'm pretty beat. had to move all of the library's books for the second time in three days today.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 12 December 2012 22:40 (eleven years ago) link

"shameless" = otm

Wednesday night drinking probably wasn't the best idea for me.

Jeff, Thursday, 13 December 2012 16:27 (eleven years ago) link

What does "bring your own instagram" mean? I've thought about it and I still dgi.

passion it person (La Lechera), Thursday, 13 December 2012 16:50 (eleven years ago) link

It was a joke. Because twitter beer nerds post pictures of their beer on Instagram.

Jeff, Thursday, 13 December 2012 18:00 (eleven years ago) link

What are those n/a? They look like pumps or generators.

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 13 December 2012 18:01 (eleven years ago) link

i'm not 100 percent sure but i think they're superpowered dehumidifiers

congratulations (n/a), Thursday, 13 December 2012 18:22 (eleven years ago) link

I'm on one of the fancy new trains. It's possibly the gentlest train I've ever ridden.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Friday, 14 December 2012 00:24 (eleven years ago) link

I hate the CTA. I'm buying a car.

Jeff, Friday, 14 December 2012 00:30 (eleven years ago) link

Jarvis stop is almost ready to open again! Hooray!

passion it person (La Lechera), Friday, 14 December 2012 00:50 (eleven years ago) link

Oh wait I guess I have heard this Bruno Mars song. The Police hadn't originally occurred to me, but that's a good call.

Sax Blatterday (jaymc), Friday, 14 December 2012 03:35 (eleven years ago) link

That was such a smooth, quiet train. I didn't care for the seating layout, though. I'm looking forward to riding one of the new cars when it's super packed at rush hour.

Man, I barely remember what it's like to ride a train during rush hour.

(*・_・)ノ⌒ ☆ (Je55e), Friday, 14 December 2012 05:06 (eleven years ago) link

Miserable. I don't see how anyone south of Fullerton on the Red/Brown/Purple line do it. All trains are packed. Sometimes I left 3 or 4 go by before I can even squeeze on one.
