Even though I haven't heard that much by Coil, I think they almost certainly have to be the best. At least they have better quality control. Maybe PTV put out as much good stuff as they did, but if so, it's scatterd across a bloated, often putrid, discography. From what I've heard of Chris & Cosey, they are the most boring.

have all you people who think c&c were boring listened to any of the music they put out asides from the later wax trax! releases (which were admittedly quite dull)? pretty much everything up until around 1987 is classic.

early PTV was virtually identical to late tg/early coil in style and substance. sadly, these records are not well known and not easy to find. i really, really like the best of each era of ptv....but, the document-and-release-everything style of their experimentalism means you have to do some work to find the good or great stuff.

coil has the same approach in experimentalism, but it's much easier to distinguish between "proper" releases and "additional material". and the distance in quality between the two was much smaller as well.

my knowledge of chris & cosey has HUGE gaps in it....in fact, it's almost entirely made up of gaps.

i wouldn't really agree. much of '20 jazz funk greats' is like a blue print for what c&c would go on to do, but the early ptv stuff ('force the hand..' and 'dreams less sweet') bears little sonic relation to that or to heathen earth (the last official tg recording). those first two ptv albums are a great leap forward in terms of both production and range of influences and are definitely a lot more pop than anything tg were doing. 'horse rotorvator' by coil fits much more with early ptv than anything tg ever did.

So I've just been listening to Chris Carter's fantastic "Moonlight" on Optimo's electrobeat mix. Does the album it comes from, "Mondo Beat", worth checking out?

it is definitely worth checking out though imo 'moonlight' is the best track. chris carter's 'the space between' is also well worth checking out.

i'd definitely recommend "the space inbetween" by chris carter & "trance" and "heartbeat" by chris & cosey if you like the primitive electro sound that tg had on tracks like 'hot on the heels', 'united', 'AB/7A' etc.
