TS Sonny Curtis vs. Joe South

Joe, in keeping with his vagabond ways, does not some to have one.

I'll leave it to others to start naming the various hits, assuming others show up.

i like johnnie taylor's version of "games people play." and deep purple's version of "hush." otoh, "love is all around," "i fought the law," "walk right back." otoh, "don't it make you wanna go home" and "rose garden." otoh ... "love is all around"! "i fought the law"!

Joe also played on Blonde on Blonde. And wrote "Down In The Boondocks" and "Walk A Mile In My Shoes." His own versions of his songs that were hits for others are all really good and sometimes, at least in the case of "Walk A Mile" and "Hush," the vocal on the cover version is pretty similar to his original vocal.

Sonny seems to have an extensive array of recordings and even Country-charting hits under his own name, all of which I only learned about today whilst looking at his web page. Under the rubric "News" is a picture of an album of his from 1964 entitled Beatle Hits: Flamenco Style Guitar. He also wrote lots of jingles, although I haven't figured out if any of them are familiar ones.

He wrote the Kingsmen's last hit, entitled "Bo Diddley Bach" which reached #128 on the Billboard charts.

Ha, I was going to send an email to the Michael Shelley show saying he should interview Sonny Curtis, but of course he has already done so

Maybe I would have had better luck starting a thread about Sonny Curtis, steel guitar player for The Jones Boys.

Wow. Just noticed this thread.

Sonny made history as the first rock n roller to record with a Fender Stratocaster, which he played on such records as "Blue Days, Black Nights," and his own composition, "Rock Around With Ollie Vee."

"Rock Around ..." is great. But so is Joe South's "Walk a Mile in my Shoes"

I love the chorus of "Walk a Mile". I never paid too much attention to the lyrics to that one, which get bashed in that other Joe South thread.
