god that sketch was bombing with the audience but it was so fucking funny

oddly i didn't even remember that will ferrell was in that sketch, in my memory it was just tim meadows as a lone shirtless bible salesman. but i do remember catching it at the end of the show and just being like "..."

I had never seen that one, the writing is just totally bizarre.

I had never seen this one until someone mentioned it in the comments of that AV Club piece. Sudeikis and Forte always go all in, love those guys.

Ohhh, yeah, the potato chip sketch was a great one. Will Ferrell (and Adam McKay) dominated the 10-to-1 back in the day: the bad doctor sketches, TGI Friday, Ride The Snake.

SNL should seriously put out a 10-to-1 compilation DVD. Those tend to be the sketches I point SNL haters towards.

I had to watch it again just to see how many ways Will Forte pronounced "potato." Blake Lively is surprisingly game there, too.

Yeah, as one of the commenters noted, for Lively to not completely break as Forte goes more and more ballistic is really quite something.

I don't know what's going on in this high school sketch - is it a Glee reference? - but I can't stop laughing at the sound of Hader's voice.

I'm on a dvr delay, so I just now noticed this Lonely Island track in the digital short is built on a Joy Formidable sample.

i thought this episode (with a few exceptions) had a lot of genuinely funny sketches, and also i thought kendrick lamar (and his band) was super fun to watch. dunno why i am so enthusiastic about it, but i enjoyed it enough to look for this thread and say i liked it.

kendrick and the band sounded good by snl sound standards. much better than heyho last week.

Adam Levine was surprisingly competent. I liked his Nev impression in the Catfish sketch.

Not having seen the Catfish film or show, I assumed it was competent anyway just because it's MTV.

His faux modest beefcake schtick was more palatable (even funny) than I expected it to be considering how unbearable his music is.

I was sad when he dissed Kara's Flowers. ;_;

Levine seemed to have the right comic persona, but pauses in his line delivery made some sketches awkward

I didn't even realize Catfish was a parody. I was also upset Adam dissed Kara's Flowers. Soap Disco! That was a fun song.

"Poetic Justice" sounded great but that's my least favorite song on the album

Loved this. This character should be the next SNL movie, just Hader yelling "SHUT UP!" in that voice for 90 minutes.

I'm with Dan on that one. All the gay character skits were middle school humor formulaic.

yeah, some of those skits seemed irresponsibly bad to me.

i agree in general that snl's gay stuff is fairly offensively dumb usually, but at a certain point it seemed like the firefighter sketch stopped being a sketch and started turning into like avant-theatre absurdity.

so this MLK Jr sketch was horrid even by right-wing comedy writer standards?
