I only found out about Santa Klaus Nomi because someone completely non-ILX related retweeted him.
Wow, he sure started following a lot of ILXors.

btw app.net commands at least 90% of my social networking attention now, and isn't fraught with any of the garbage that turned me off twitter multiple times (obsession with fame, spam, echo chamber, etc.)

Wow, Felix is great. Thanks for the rec... BTW, I'm on app.net at @quartzcity

So of you who have moved to app.net, have people that you followed previously moved too? I can't imagine many of the circles I tweet in would.
― Jeff, Saturday, 5 January 2013 02:57 (eleven years ago) link
really enjoying app.net
― buzza, Saturday, 5 January 2013 03:09 (eleven years ago) link
I keep social networks separate in general, but a handful of my twitter crowd (many of whom I know in person) made the jump, and many of those (like me) have basically given up on twitter. some haven't and won't, which is the only reason I keep the twitter pilot light going these days.
― das ist not einer 不必 (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 5 January 2013 03:46 (eleven years ago) link
I'm maintaining dual citizenship for now. Twitter is still my primary social net of choice, but a fair number of one/few-man band development shops have been bigupping app.net. The potential of the platform seems interesting and the development/api/behind the scenes seems like Something I Should Know.

How does Twiends work? In real simple talking-to-a-12-year-old-girl terms? For grubby reasons (hi, dickhead boss) I need to have what appears to be a high-powered Twitter account so I signed up to twiends dot com and just paid £20 for a bunch of 'seeds'. Any other less-dodgy (fuck it, or more dodgy) techniques for increasing followers?
(This is grim I know, goes against spirit of Twitter but I no option other than sleeping for 3 hours less a night)
― NI, Thursday, 14 February 2013 17:27 (eleven years ago) link
if you need followers you can buy them on ebay
― 乒乓, Thursday, 14 February 2013 17:33 (eleven years ago) link
Have you, or anyone else on here, done this? Any tips for best one? Best being relative, obviously. Feels like I'm delving about in the sewers of the internet with this crap.
― NI, Thursday, 14 February 2013 17:39 (eleven years ago) link
no but my understanding is that you basically just buy tens of thousands of twitter bots
― 乒乓, Thursday, 14 February 2013 17:40 (eleven years ago) link
That many might look suss, think I'm just gonna go for 1k for £10.
― NI, Thursday, 14 February 2013 17:45 (eleven years ago) link
I would use the search box in the top right corner, find people and businesses related to the field your company is in, and follow them. Think of anyone who has a stake in your company--customers, vendors, whatever--and google their names and Twitter to find their Twitter accounts if they have one, and follow that.
Twitter is like the phone. Unfortunately, buying followers (unless a place is actually finding the best leads around you in some hand-crafted away) is like buying a bunch of dummy phone numbers.

Can't go into too much detail but this is basically something to show an arsehole boss to get them off my case. Well aware of the uselessness in real terms, and would never use this tactic on my genuine accounts.
― NI, Thursday, 14 February 2013 18:21 (eleven years ago) link
Tweet "#porn #bieber #iphone #ladygaga" and the bots will come your way.

the key for me is that i follow tons of basketball obsessives and then watch a lot of basketball with twitter on. i think that sort of live commentary is really where twitter seems most useful and entertaining. and it dramatically cuts down on the noise and the feeling that its 100 people having 100 different conversations.
― ryan, Saturday, 30 March 2013 03:24 (eleven years ago) link
Don't follow boring people to begin with. Make people earn their place in your life. Be choosy; there are plenty of amusing people out there tweeting.

― NI, Monday, 22 April 2013 01:29 (eleven years ago) link
it's a thing that thinks you like the music made by all the musicians you follow and feeds it all at you, but only if the musicians have linked to their music in the proper format. it also suggests music based on what your friends like (because of course you all like exactly the same thing) and also just shit it wants everyone to be looking at. brands revenue brands.
