Haze has been open about coming from Michigan and writing it when she'd only just moved to New York so it's knowingly outrageous - you arrive somewhere and you have so much self-belief that you feel like you own it. She's not trying to trick anybody.

I'm probably a little more meek than Angel Haze, but I wouldn't move to someplace and act like I own the shit, and I especially wouldn't start a beef with someone who's been there her whole life and has a certain amount of pride about that fact.

i mean that is new york's one and only sure-fire guarantee to everyone, that if you live there and you have affection for it, you are a new yorker, no questions asked

wait, let me seriously backpedal here. Harlem is in manhattan, and people rep harlem of course. Can't think of anyone really doing the same for e.g. washington heights or inwood, but in principle there's no reason they couldn't. it's a really interesting immigrant mix in those parts though, so "born and raised" doesn't necessarily fly.

i think in most professions and even genres of music being a native new yorker is not that big a deal (like, nobody really gives a fuck where all the "Brooklyn" indie rock bands are originally from). but it's totally different with rappers, there's all the "birthplace of hip hop" stuff and a history of guys accusing each other of being from upstate/Jersey/etc. it's like that in EVERY major city, if two rappers are beefing one will accuse the other from being from the burbs or of not spending any time in the neighborhood they claim.

Best I could tell, AZB was just making a tweet about real vs. fake NYers. Angel Haze, chronic narcissist, assumes it was about her and comes back with some really awful things and two dud tracks. No beef before yesterday afaik.
