There are a horrendous number of cuts in this video but this was the best Boredoms show I've seen (out of more than a dozen).

You guys are the best!

That ATP performance was incredible.

I really, really wish they'd have released an official live recording of the drumkits + vox + electronics + guitar fence lineup by now. That volume of Super Roots with the choir kind of playing the electronics role comes closest but doesn't match the exhilaration of the shows I've seen.

the dyspeptic Hirax (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 15:54 (eleven years ago) link

absolutely - I saw them in 2009 and the material was all new and really amazing, but I fear it'll never be captured on an official recording

listened to super ae for the first time today. maybe the best initial listening experience to an album i have ever had.

can't remember my first listen to that one but I do remember my first time listening to it loud and that was a real "the sky is opening" moment

Enjoyed the Barbican show last week. Bloody noisy but lots of fun. Wrote about it for the Quietus. Basically 88 people playing cymbals for 2 hours http://thequietus.com/articles/18281-live-report-boredoms-live-review

There's also a piece by one of the players here, which is interesting to read http://thequietus.com/articles/18270-boredoms-live

sounds awesome. 77 Boadrum (the first event) was a truly pivotal experience for me. the ones in following years didn't quite live up but it's probably because I got the message so strongly the first time I was predisposed to disappointment when repeating the experience. Is the guy with the ballcap still part of the core drumkit circle? That guy astonishes me.

demonic mnevice (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 7 July 2015 14:56 (eight years ago) link

i was down in the stalls, near the front which would have been excellent in other circumstances but as such i only really got to see the backs of the cymbal players.

Seeing them in London next week, super excited but I'm a little out of the loop with what they're doing as far as the live setup and music goes, has it changed? anybody seen them recently?

MaresNest, Thursday, 14 April 2016 21:29 (eight years ago) link

I really, really wish they'd have released an official live recording of the drumkits + vox + electronics + guitar fence lineup by now.

yes please

Seadrum/House of Sun-era Boredoms drummer EDA has a band called Adreena Adreena and they are playing this Thursday at Iklectik in London, they look pretty interesting, it's EDA playing solo kit and samples/toys with a huge sphere above his head onto which the other member projects images.

Does anyone know if there are any bootlegs of the legendary Fuji-Rock show that was supposedly so good that it drove Yamamoto to quit?

Does audio exist of the whole set?

I love how totally square Yamamoto always looked. I guess here it was too wa for him to wear chinos and a polo shirt

I already had more transformative live bore experiences than I deserve

1992 seattle just after PT
Vooredoms the first time I saw that lineup
77 boadrum

All changed my life. Maybe if I’d seen super go 1999 it would have broken my input port

Lockhorn. Lockhorn breed-uh (Jon not Jon), Monday, 19 February 2018 23:30 (six years ago) link

london boadrum was amazing obv yeah but that seems on another level

imago, Monday, 19 February 2018 23:31 (six years ago) link

Yeah it’s like a blinding chimera
Vooredoms but with Yamamoto still there

Lockhorn. Lockhorn breed-uh (Jon not Jon), Monday, 19 February 2018 23:57 (six years ago) link

wow that's great. almost 20 years ago? i'm sure they can't be quite as wild in 2018 (?)

global tetrahedron, Tuesday, 20 February 2018 00:24 (six years ago) link

easy to make up for it by adding 20 more drummers

frogbs, Tuesday, 20 February 2018 15:00 (six years ago) link

Tbh after the incredible 2007 there were somewhat diminishing returns for me in the next couple of annual eye rituals.

Boredoms - Soul Discharge (1989) i've been Eye-ing (ha!) this on vinyl for a while and scooped up a relatively cheap copy off ebay the other day. can't wait to hear it!

https://www.discogs.com/Boredoms-Soul-Discharge/release/1810824

Boredoms records are super expensive but this one has such an awesome album cover i've wanted this for years. might have to invest in some Super Roots as well...

"Yamatsuka Eye had released a solo album full of samples of “The Pod”"

What Eye album is being referenced here?

trux tracker (edges), Wednesday, 15 May 2019 20:21 (four years ago) link

good question!

Z-Rock Hawaii was recorded in 1994 (released two years later) so it must be from then or before, maybe Chocolate Synthesizer or Super Roots?

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Wednesday, 15 May 2019 21:20 (four years ago) link

...yet neither of those are eYe solo albums.
