new scg is an hour they put together to play on On The WIre which is kinda of funny what with the gasket the editor blew over the SCG's show at Instal.

Keith Fullerton Whitman and one other guy whose name I don't know run this rad reissue label of extremely obscure musique concrete and early electronic music LPs- stuff that is so super obscure that it ain't getting reissued any other way- they put out CDRs in teensy editions of 50 or so with nice paper sleeves, and they sell em on the Mimaroglu site.

I have lots of them, and of particular note I recommend:
Josef Anton Riedl
Salvatore Martirano "LG"
Morris Knight "After Guernica"
Jean Claude Eloy "Shanti"
Tod Dockstader "Electronic" (his production library music!)
Christiansen/Fuzzy
the Andromeda Strain soundtrack one

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Thursday, 2 February 2006 09:23 (eighteen years ago) link

superpitcher, "heroin"
lupe fiasco, "kick, push"
rolling stones, "some things just stick in your mind"

on repeat for about three weeks straight

the soft machine the soft machine and volume two cuz im in a robert wyatt sort of mood this morning.

Jack Cole (jackcole), Thursday, 2 February 2006 17:43 (eighteen years ago) link

all those Creel Pones are so great, Keith's taste is just dead on, most of the more obscure ones on this label are way, way better than many of the 'classic' electronic pieces I've dutifully subjected myself to

i listened. i have to relisten.

it's better than the electric prunes Mass in F Minor, but not as good as Lalo Schifrin's "Rock Requiem"

team jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 2 February 2006 21:10 (eighteen years ago) link

its also not as good as i want it to be..but my expectations are awfully high?

one of the best psych records ever!

I didn't like Whinos, Rhinos, etc at first either ... seemed too normal or like a letdown coming after Be Good To YOurself At LEast Once A Day. But I like it now. as boogie rock goes it's still pretty good.

oh, and my standard anecdote about the first mad river album is that they apparently mixed or mastered it at the wrong speed and that's why it's so speedy! this sounds very plausible when you listen to it. it is a very speedy record.

jebadiah - rock 'n' soul (70's funky disco stones covers)

today i gots:

"South Indian Strings" on Lyrichord (violin ragas)
Bukka White "Blues Masters Vol. 4" (decent electric stuff from the early sixties, i think?)
pharaoh sanders "jewels of thought"

and some 45s. including one titled "big legged woman with a short short miniskirt." i love vaguely naughty r&b 45s. they're so much fun.
