What was the context of the tipping picture? Was the person who posted it approving of it or pointing out what an asshole that guy was?

I got news for iradio. I can feel old all on my own. And it isn't some 'sudden' thing. And when Lucille Ball croaked ages ago, I felt nothing. Nothing.

in south minneapolis where i live there's like 100 storefront chruches like Missionary Christ The Redeemer Warrior Evangelical Church Of the Holy Spirit type places with like handmade signs and stuff. I don't think they are fronts for anything, just some dude or dudette calls themselves a preacher and starts preaching
― downton arby (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 1 February 2013 16:07 (eleven years ago) link
or now actually lots of times there are a lot of them taking over actual churches that were aging presbyterian or lutheran churches that closed

It's common in the evangelical traditions for people to break off from the church they attend and start their own. My favorite IT guy at my old job started his own church.* I think it was out of his house, but he was relatively new to the pastoring gig and seemed to be pretty successful so maybe he'll have a storefront or similar one day.
*We mostly talked about Star Trek.
― carl agatha, Friday, 1 February 2013 16:36 (eleven years ago) link
the only reason i was snarky upthread is because she was saying she "gives got 10%" and obviously a start-up church isn't going to have much accountability in terms of the finances compared to a mainstream denomination where there is a church board and an office manager and the pastor is assigned from the national organization and paid a set salary etc
― downton arby (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 1 February 2013 16:41 (eleven years ago) link
i would attend a church headed by thestartrekman xp
― ramblin' evil mushroom (clouds), Friday, 1 February 2013 16:43 (eleven years ago) link
I wouldn't recommend it. He's a great IT guy (at least compared to the other bozos that worked there) and fun to talk to about science fiction, but I've accidentally veered into theological territory with him and he quickly loses his charm when the conversation takes that turn.

I'm just wondering where this server came from if the money they get doesn't count as God's. Doesn't that mean when God created everything, this server is something he had no part in creating, thus there must be a rival deity creating people outside of God's jurisdiction and thereby barging in on God's potential profits. It does make her more sympathetic: clearly she believes in a polytheistic cosmology and the God she donates money to is every day losing out to random people, clearly this God is lacking in power/authority and needs all the cash it can get.
