the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a bad guy with a gun turning it on himself right after a killing spree.

i think half the problem here is that the word "spree" makes it sound like something fun, we need to change this word to something frumpy sounding

Police in Upstate New York's Herkimer County are looking for a suspect wanted for killing four people and wounding two others in a shooting spree in the villages of Mohawk and Herkimer.

The villages are about 65 miles east of Syracuse, on opposite sides of the Mohawk River in a region known as the Mohawk Valley.

The Herkimer Telegram reported that firefighters were battling a blaze at a building in Mohawk where the suspect apparently lived. He was described as a slender white male, age 50 to 60, sporting a white beard and wearing a flannel shirt.

He is believed to have abandoned his maroon vehicle, possibly a Jeep, that was spotted at the scene of the two shootings.

The suspect was believed to be armed with a long gun used in the killings, the Telegram reported.

The Observer-Dispatch (uticaod.com) reported that SWAT teams and a police helicopter converged on a jewelry store on Main Street in Herkimer where the suspect may have taken refuge, but later reported that the gunman may have fled on foot.

The suspect apparently set fire to his residential building in Mohawk, then went to John's Barber Shop shop in the same village where he killed two people and wounded two.

Capt. Robert Rasa of the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department said 12 people were rushed to area hospitals after the stabbings while three others were treated on the scene. He said many of the injuries were stab wounds to the face and neck area.

At 10:48 PM today gunshots were reported near Building 32 (Stata) which is currently surrounded by responding agencies. The area is cordoned off. Please stay clear of area until further notice. Unknown if injuries have occurred.. Although the situation is considered active and extremely dangerous, an investigation is underway. Updates will be provided at this site when more information becomes available.

Coroner Mr White later admitted the incident would be ruled as an accident, saying: "It’s just one of those crazy accidents.”

Just one of those crazy accidents that happens when you give firearms to a child and leave them lying around loaded and unsupervised! It's practically unpreventable!

We should definitely not examine the political or social underpinnings of this horrendous tragedy for this family, now that their 2-yo child has paid for their poor judgment like a sin-eater who bears the full punishment of others and is cast out.
