I know it's not ~strictly Balearic~ but that compilation for a decade of Eskimo Recordings ("Eskimonde") is making summer seem nearer than it is for me.

it's been a while, so much to catch up on! that young marco podcast is great, i really like his release on esp institute last year...

so much so that i put it on this mix i just made! it's not straight up balearic, but i think maybe the overall mood might at least be something approaching balearic house? regardless i figured that since people in this thread seemed to dig the last mix i posted, i should give it another go. also, i heard about a few of these tracks through ilm, so thanks!

KOKOMO promo mix

[beach sounds]
claro intelecto - it's getting late
tin man - finger paint
daniel avery - water jump
young marco - video days
juju & jordash - track david would play
anthony naples - mad disrespect
don carlos - play it again-paradise
st. etienne - nothing can stop us (ken/lou dub)
chez damier - untitled a1
the african dream - make a living
electribe 101 - talking with myself (jazzy piano mix)
kerri chandler - atmosphere ep track 1
fort romeau - kingdoms
paradise orchestra - satisfy your dream

akadarbarijava (psychgawsple), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 17:54 (eleven years ago) link

downloading now. did you get that african dream via my rec? i posted about it in techno/house bobbins of the past.

going to see young marco in berlin on friday.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 21:40 (eleven years ago) link

nah, i found out about it when it was on the phil mison originals comp... think i heard about tin man from you tho!

akadarbarijava (psychgawsple), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 22:05 (eleven years ago) link

did you buy the vinyl of african dream? it's pricey enough on discogs.

Tioc Norris (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 22:22 (eleven years ago) link

no, i used both cds and vinyl. that's one of the only cd tracks in the second half tho, it's like 60-70% vinyls overall

it would rule to have that track on vinyl tho, damn. i was pretty happy to have picked up an original copy of that chez damier track for a mere $20 tho!

akadarbarijava (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 24 April 2013 04:48 (eleven years ago) link

feels like an age a proper nu-baeleric album was released.
by that i mean not a ltd press vinyl/bandcamp only release, but a cd that i can go buy locally.
bottom line is i'm really loving the meanderthals album at the moment, and need more.
is there anything i have missed out on in recent times ?

mark e, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 09:06 (eleven years ago) link

Did you get the Land Of Light album from last year?

Also the new Almunia album is out very soon and what I've heard so far sounds might fine:

groovypanda, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 09:09 (eleven years ago) link

ok, that's a few mentions of 'land of light' ...
not seen that in any racks, but sounds like i need to investigate further
whereas having streamed some of that almunia - its hitting the top of my wishlist.

groovypanda, Wednesday, 24 April 2013 09:31 (eleven years ago) link

the ep is v cheap and great (although the rest of it is not really this kind of stuff it must be said)

New Almunia album dropped in the post yesterday and sounds every bit as gorgeous as those soundcloud clips would lead you to believe

groovypanda, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 07:29 (ten years ago) link

"higher heights" off the new secret circuit is pretty balearic. one of the best tracks on it imo.

dmr, Wednesday, 8 May 2013 16:14 (ten years ago) link

That's the other album I'm heavily listening to at the moment. Enjoying it but preferred Tropical Psychedelics to be honest.

two weeks pass...

i'm trying to think of this single or EP that came out within the past couple years and the cover art was nautical imagery, like maybe a solid white ship on a black background and it had really prominent new agey/astrology-ish lyrics. anyone remember what it was?

ogmor, Friday, 7 June 2013 23:05 (ten years ago) link

Not wanting to bump the Studio thread in case I get people's hopes up, but - and I realise this is going to be almost uselessly vague - can anyone think of a record that sounds like Studio but has a male singer singing in a language that isn't English? This was playing in a clothes shop the other week and I foolishly didn't ask what it was.

That Heroes of the Galleon Trade single is great. Heard it whilst comically high on my own on Friday night and was transported to another world.

Cool slowed down edit/loop from the intro to "Erebus" by Zadri & Mo. Might be a bit more cosmic/ambient for this thread, but I'm digging it.

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 12 June 2013 00:00 (ten years ago) link

"whoa, get that cosmic shit out of here!" < a sentiment expressed by no one, ever.

ogmor, Wednesday, 12 June 2013 00:16 (ten years ago) link

It could have gone in the beardo thread, but this one seems to pop up more lately.

That APC thing is cool, think I might have posted it on house/techno bobbins - I really like the whole 12.

It sounds good at 45 too.

Shamrock Shoe (LocalGarda), Friday, 14 June 2013 10:41 (ten years ago) link

I've really been enjoying the Trush mix series that the Sex Tags Mania guys do - some of it is more deep house or whatever but it loosely belongs here.

Also got into this Brian Not Brian guy, amazingly deep selections of obscure (to my ears) stuff. His own Soundcloud is full of great mixes.

That's Brian Morrison from Phonica records and also behind the Going Good label.

Also, new Last Waltz mix over at Test Pressing is ace:

This isn`t what I was expecting at all. Associating Last Waltz with their releases on Tusk Wax and World Unknown, I thought this was going to be a set of seamlessly mixed, linear, dark, chugging electronics aimed at the dancefloors of the aforementioned World Unknown and A Love From Outer Space. Instead, keen to demonstrate the breadth of their musical tastes, this selection begins with Popol Vuh / Kalacakra like Komische ambience, and then encompasses Morricone-esque soundtracks, Middle-Eastern prayer, Blue-eyed erection section Soul, New Age Rock (one of Steve Hillage`s more restrained moments), swinging Jazz-Folk, Japanese-sounding Prog, Honky Tonk Bluegrass Boogie and a Shocking Pink Mexican stand-off desire-charged ballad. It ends with a little bit of Steely Dan.

― Plasmon, Saturday, June 29, 2013 7:57 AM

Yeah, I'm still listening to that 4 or 5 weeks later.

ID'd most of the tracks but would love to know what the second track is with the lyrics "Jewel in the eye of a hurricane". "Music of the Sky?"
