yeah everyone lining up to feel like they didn't miss out on the civil rights issue of their time without having to put anything at stake, basically

i know one day my grandkids are going to say "did you change your facebook avatar?" and i'll tell them all about it. maybe norman mailer will write a book about the day he changed his facebook avatar and other people did too, but sometimes not to the same avatar, all very thrilling stuff you know.

and there will be articles about how many billions will claim to have changed their avatars, but there weren't even that many active facebook users at the time.

and some movie about a kid that just stumbled into changing his avatar even though he didn't know why and how it sent him on a path where he learned about life, and love, and cat pictures.

i don't think the facebook avatars will be front page on the times tomorrow. only in retrospect will the establishment recognize how significant this moment was.

i rarely post anything on facebook, but when i do, i secretly think, "if no one likes this, i will look like a fool." a powerful deterrent to posting anything on facebook.
