have to keep reminding myself that i've never liked their pre-album singles as much as the albums or later singles

you are the dude who shits on something on ilx when it comes out and then i read your blog 5 months later and the same thing you shitted on is like your #5 for the year

i'm often down on singles and then like the albums or vice versa if that's what you mean. i like to think i'm willing to change my mind or admit when i've been wrong but i dunno if something like what you're describing actually happens that often! unless jokes i make about artists i like just come off harsh, i guess. examples?

If Panic at the Disco would reform with the same 4 dudes from their first 2 albums I would probably care and listen.

haha well I think I said that in a fit of pique - I don't have somedude.xls open but since I started following your blog a few months ago I def felt p surprised at how highly ranked you had some songs which I had a vague memory of you shitting on here on ILM. I'll let you know if I catch you slippin xp

Yeah it's all good. I'm just curious now if those are apparent inconsistencies I can easily explain or that I'm totally unaware of! Singles tend to change a lot for me from first listen to fiftieth, which is prob how it should be imo.

i feel confident in saying that this will probably be the only album ever to feature both big sean and elton john

last album was probably the only album to ever feature both lil wayne and elvis costello (...nobody really famous to contrast w/ jay-z or babyface on the album before that though)

tho it was pointed out to me on twitter that MBDTF had elton john + 15 other guests, but curiously no big sean

i was thinking of a fall out boy-ish poll thread title but couldn't think of anything besides puns involving pole dancing

haha it's a shame FOB didn't announce the tracklist for this well ahead of the release date, could've been a good ILX pre-covers project

there is the offish "all of the lights" remix w/ big sean, which i assume still has elton's piano in the mix although who knows

I kinda dug "My Songs..." so I'm disappointed "The Phoenix" sounds like what I expected (which makes it a comeback after all, I guess).

"My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark" doesn't sound all that great on the radio. The goofiness in the chorus stopped being funny somewhere around the 3rd listen, and nothing else in this song has grown into anything especially rewarding.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 2 April 2013 17:34 (eleven years ago) link

it sounded good as a 6 second bumper wherever i heard it yesterday, espn maybe

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 2 April 2013 17:35 (eleven years ago) link

Maybe it's too long.

most songs are

乒乓, Tuesday, 2 April 2013 17:37 (eleven years ago) link

it's only 3 minutes! i think it's ok as a single, no better or worse than, like, "I Don't Care."

some dude, Tuesday, 2 April 2013 20:03 (eleven years ago) link

my joke was bad. suggesting the song should be edited down to 6 seconds.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 2 April 2013 20:58 (eleven years ago) link

ha oh that went over my head

what they do with the instrumental there is pretty cool imo i like it a lot more than the OG track

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:15 (eleven years ago) link

save for the "trap" drums

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:17 (eleven years ago) link

hi-hats worked fine on the track, i thought

some dude, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:19 (eleven years ago) link

yeah they sound okay but maybe a bit obvious

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:21 (eleven years ago) link

yaeh i like the instrumentation on this. 2 chinaz sounds like hes sleepwalking tho

乒乓, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:23 (eleven years ago) link

2 chinaz!

haha i typo'd that and immediately regretted having given up display names / not being active enough on twitter to change my name to that

乒乓, Wednesday, 3 April 2013 18:29 (eleven years ago) link

these new synths are some lil' jon synths imo

courtney love sounds amazing on this album fyi

J0rdan S., Friday, 5 April 2013 14:53 (eleven years ago) link

i'm harboring a suspicion that big sean is on this album simply to say "fall out...*boyyiyiyyyii*"

J0rdan S., Friday, 5 April 2013 15:17 (eleven years ago) link

lmao

乒乓, Friday, 5 April 2013 15:17 (eleven years ago) link

(this album is awesome btw)

J0rdan S., Friday, 5 April 2013 17:37 (eleven years ago) link

i'm kind of getting emotional over the fact that pete wrote the lyric "blood brothers in desperation"

J0rdan S., Friday, 5 April 2013 22:34 (eleven years ago) link

"Young Volcanoes" is pretty great, although it kinda confirms my suspicion that they've spent the last year stewing with Ruess envy

the drummer for gay Daddy Yankee (some dude), Friday, 5 April 2013 22:43 (eleven years ago) link

the rest of the album didn't sound very much like fun. to me

J0rdan S., Friday, 5 April 2013 23:01 (eleven years ago) link

basically it sounds like the album that should have come after 'infinity on high'... it almost feels intentionally corrective to me

J0rdan S., Friday, 5 April 2013 23:02 (eleven years ago) link

word

乒乓, Friday, 5 April 2013 23:07 (eleven years ago) link

folie a deux is kind of a warm, gloopy mess that i love... these songs sound much sharper

乒乓, Friday, 5 April 2013 23:07 (eleven years ago) link

yeah i'm sure the album sounds like Fall Out Boy, i just kinda lolled at the hammy campfire singalong of "we are [like] young [volcanoes]"

the drummer for gay Daddy Yankee (some dude), Friday, 5 April 2013 23:24 (eleven years ago) link

i kind of see from under the cork tree and folie a deux being lineal descendants, linking infinity on high and this new one together would make some kind of symmetrical sense

乒乓, Friday, 5 April 2013 23:27 (eleven years ago) link

where are ppl hearing this? did it leak or is it just journo-perks

just journo-jerks i think
