no idea but my guess is that a lot of people at twitter know who he is

markers, Wednesday, 17 April 2013 02:36 (seven years ago) link

he's one of the most visible tech writers in the industry

markers, Wednesday, 17 April 2013 02:37 (seven years ago) link

i hate this world

乒乓, Wednesday, 17 April 2013 11:49 (seven years ago) link

gruber is occasionally douchey but I still read him.

See also: MG Siegler.

The Great Forgiver (dandydonweiner), Wednesday, 17 April 2013 11:55 (seven years ago) link

siegler is so much worse. particularly since he's a VC and has a vested interest in all the shit he writes about

The stock market is a game. And if you don't realize that, you're sadly in the group being gamed.

lol is he reading this thread

gary vaynerchuk tweeting "i miss u" at gruber is the only worthwhile thing that ever happened on twitter

markers, Wednesday, 17 April 2013 16:44 (seven years ago) link

is it a blink182 refernce? this world of micro online mac celebrities seems completely divorced from the world of micro flesh mac celebrities.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 17 April 2013 17:26 (seven years ago) link

it could be looked at that way, but gary certainly wasn't thinking of tom delonge

markers, Wednesday, 17 April 2013 17:28 (seven years ago) link

that being said, i'm going to take this opportunity on this relatively obscure thread to announce that i'm done with that as a meme/thing and won't be posting it anymore

markers, Wednesday, 17 April 2013 17:29 (seven years ago) link

and now that i've said it i guess it's true so there we go

markers, Wednesday, 17 April 2013 17:29 (seven years ago) link

i don't know who gary is, so contextually blink182 is all i have to go on. (i also don't know who gruber is either other than he seems to be linked to a lot)

have you guys come across any japanese mac magazines? they look really content-rich. I feel like there's a vast trove of good mac journalism hidden from us at kinokuniya while the english-speaking world has to settle for weird twitter people

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 17 April 2013 17:39 (seven years ago) link

he's a social media dude or whatever

marco on phish

If you’ll permit a pretty rough analogy, imagine a world in which the vast majority of published fiction was in the form of 3,000-word short stories, and most people had never read anything longer. Phish is the one outlier publishing novels, and they’re pretty weird, complex novels. No effort to condense such novels into bite-sized short stories will truly capture the appeal.

ahahahhahaa oh sure

marco's Intro to Phish is pretty cringeworthy too: http://www.marco.org/2011/05/26/geek-intro-to-phish

i enjoy gruber's writing on daring fireball because his insufferability is part of the weird charm. i have great friends i consider insufferable assholes because i enjoy the *style* with which they are insufferable.

gruber should never podcast, because then he's all insufferable and no style. the talk show since the move to mule is awful imo.

but i always thought dan was the best part of the talk show anyway.

are you saying grubes is cool cause man i got news for you, he is not cool

lag∞n, Tuesday, 23 April 2013 02:44 (seven years ago) link

the fact that a phish fan is much, much wealthier than me will gall me to my dying day.

Your Favorite Album in the Cutout Bin, Tuesday, 23 April 2013 14:37 (seven years ago) link

haha you can't be an insufferable defender of the biggest company on earth who makes hundreds of thousands a year by linking to other people's writing and complaining about star wars and still qualify as cool, i agree

hoospanic GANGSTER musician (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 16:22 (seven years ago) link

and by the biggest company on earth i mean phish

hoospanic GANGSTER musician (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Tuesday, 23 April 2013 16:22 (seven years ago) link

what a strange way to approach music.

i agree that his kind-of-terrible "character" is part of the appeal kinda like marc maron
