Tonight it has been revealed to me the dark side of our new precious and well-located apartment: if our neighbors decide to boil cabbage for dinner, our entire apartment becomes permeated with the smell.

I do not like the smell of boiled cabbage.

I love the taste of boiled cabbage. Especially when accompanied by boiled potatoes and rutabagas!

There is a great deal of noise outside of my house. A lot of "YOU C'MERE! C'MERE! YOU C'MERE! I SAID C'MERE! YOU C'MERE! COME! HERE!"

This is set to a loud backdrop of Rebirth Brass Band played on someone's car stereo. (Ain't no party like a Rebirth party, etc).

Huh. That didn't include the little star. Anyway, it's at St. Thomas and 8th. Off of Tchoupitoulas, a name I like a lot.

Here.

We decided to be lazy and watch four episodes of Lost.

Does anyone else ever feel guilty for staying home and being lazy instead of going out and taking advantage of what the city has to offer? I do.

n/a (Nick A.), Sunday, 10 September 2006 02:29 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes. BUT, considering last weekend, and considering that I'm kind of broke, I think it's best that I'm staying in tonight doing the following

-going for a jog (thought I was goinng 1.5 miles, but I accidentally went 3! (about half of it running))
-reading Achewood comics
-watching Venture Bros.
-watching Chumscrubber
-hunting the GIgantic roach that I have found on my potato the past 3 times I went into the pantry. It ate a hole in my potato!!!

I would be so happy if someone blasted Rebirth outside my place in Wisconsin.

Today I played a decent gig in Milwaukee, went to a friend's house to see his new baby, started watching The Winslow Boy, turned it off and watched the copy of Under the Cherry Moon that I bought for ten bucks. It's terrible/funny.

This is one of the main reasons why I may never actually live in New Orleans.

Jordan (Jordan), Sunday, 10 September 2006 03:06 (seventeen years ago) link

There are critters of all types and sizes, that is for sure. We also have a mouse in the house, but I can deal with a mouse. It's a mammal. I don't like animals with no nipples and too many legs.

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Sunday, 10 September 2006 03:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Rule #1: If you see a roach crawling on your potato, get rid of the potato.

Under the Cherry Moon is so terrifunny it's not even funny.

I saw Jeff at the Touch & Go thing but was separated shortly thereafter. Man or Astroman was the best.

Now I want to do something but I am at home. Shit.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Sunday, 10 September 2006 03:48 (seventeen years ago) link

In New Orleans, the rule is: If you see a roach crawling on your potato, scream like a fucking pussy, close the cabinet door, come back a day later, repeat, repeat again, then carve away the roach-eaten part, bake it and season to taste.

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Sunday, 10 September 2006 03:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Far worse things have crawled on potatoes when they were in the ground. And you know that roaches have crawled on your food, and in fact there are probably roaches on some of your food right now!

Or should I call you Mr. Tiger?

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Sunday, 10 September 2006 04:12 (seventeen years ago) link

The Chumscrubber is like a total rip-off of Donnie Darko.

Dude, fuck the South, fuck the tropics and fuck the sub-tropics.

I was in the bathroom, at my most vulnerable when what should catch my eye but a spider with a tiny body and GIgantic legs that spread from the hardwood floor, across the molding and onto the baseboards.

***as i was typing this my phone rang (773 area cod) and latino man answered saying "who ees thees?" which i hate, so i said "you called me, who are you?"

"fuck jew! who ees thees? is thees marteen?"

"no, this isn't martin"

"fuck jew! jew suck my deek! motherfucker, fuckeeng fuck jew! jew fucking asshole! jew suck my deek! who ees dees!?"

Anyway, fuck warm climates because there are bugs and Mexicans calling from Chicago!!

The Pig on the Stairs (hanging in a groovy purple shirt) (unclejessjess), Sunday, 10 September 2006 06:42 (seventeen years ago) link

(the preceeding has nothing to do with jews. it is only intended to be an unkind depiction of latinos from chicago)

:(

And now, shitting you not, for the last 10 minutes there has been scratching on my ceiling/wall. It's probably squirrels or tarantulas, but I do not want to deal with living things at 3 AM.

This is what I get for being up and sober at 3 AM.

I've had mice before, and despite being totally filthy creatures who are a health and safety risk to you and your pets, they're pretty darn adorable.

always crashing in other people's cars (kenan), Sunday, 10 September 2006 14:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Wittle white mice wiff wittle pink noses. Big grey rats would probably freak me out a lot more.

Oh god, I wanted to punch Albini in the neck. Why have you got to noodle on about Martina Nvratalova for 20 minutes and then finally break into the watch song. My back is killing me

I'm leaning towards not going today, if anyone wants a ticket.

Jeff. (Jeff), Sunday, 10 September 2006 14:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Standing on that pavement for hours really did suck. I've got the pains all up in my feet and knees. Still going today despite the rain.

fucking in the rain
by Google, September 10, 2006

making out
making out in the rain
fucking rain rocks
fucking in the rain rocks
not being in love
being in love
hot bath and no one around and

This weekend there will be alot of fucking in the rain if you know what i mean.

I love men (esp my husband)
women
children (esp. my own)
Chinese food
Thai food
birthday parties
fucking in the rain
biwomen
Feng Shui
the BMW Z3

fucking in the rain
std “white blotches”
pubescent nude gymnasts
And my favorite,
dangers of eating pussy.

... over to bush.. at like.. midnight.. then the other's went back to James' house, while me and Kris were still at bush... fucking in the rain... anyways! ...

Coca Cola advertising and cocaine.
Fucking in the rain.

he said something about fucking in the rain somewhere in another thread
rain + fucking + rain = holy shit.
*flirts*

It was fucking in the rain that got me, but I'm that kind of guy.
And ok, "fucking in the rain" just makes me want to like...
go fuck in the rain.
GAH!

A dog fucking in the rain...
at least the mess gets washed away.
It smells like hoochyparaiengae in here.

Maddie and I just watched the first 2 1/2 hours of Spike Lee's Katrina documentary. It's intense and sad but well worth seeing.

Dear Chicago: I expect I will be in your fair city tomorrow, for I suppose a few days. Let's play Yahtzee! Or... drink. Or something.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 11 September 2006 11:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Good morning. I just spilled cold milk and Product 19 all over my lap.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 11 September 2006 12:01 (seventeen years ago) link

(luckily I'm running late and haven't taken a shower yet)

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 11 September 2006 12:01 (seventeen years ago) link

What's Product 19?

The South is full of creepy crawly things. Did I ever mention that time I lived in a converted one car garage in Louisiana with my mom and two sisters? and it was FULL of fucking roaches the size of kittens? and how at night we would zip ourselves up in our sleeping bags, including our heads, because otherwise you would wake up with ROACHES ON YOUR FACE. During the night, we'd feel them dropping from the ceiling and hitting our blankets.

I have lots of gross out bug stories, blood sucking bug stories, rodent stories, stepping on slugs in your socks stories, birds trapped in walls stories, snake stories...

Product 19 is my favorite cereal. It sounds like a government project but it's like heartier, healthier corn flakes. I don't know anyone else who eats it.

ROACHES ON YOUR FACE

I've never been more thankful for freezing winters than I am right now.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 11 September 2006 13:16 (seventeen years ago) link

I ate a lot of Product 19 as a kid.

Also, good morning. My feet and knees hurt from standing in a parking lot for hours on end the last two days.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Monday, 11 September 2006 13:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I was going to make another lovely poem, but "roaches on your face" only gets one Google result.

Product 19 wiki!

I'm with you guys, I have shin splints and cramped arches and twingy hamstrings from dancing multiple sets over two days and walking around for hours and hours in soft ghillies with no support. At least we danced on grass, not cement. But I couldn't change into sneakers, either, because we were supposed to be representing the medieval festival...and we do it all again next weekend! Grump grump. xxoo

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 11 September 2006 13:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I have stepped on a slug in my bare feet. Once, I stepped on a slug in socks with a hole in it so that the slug oozed through the hole in my sock. UNPLEASANT.

Also, there was a dead roach in the foyer outside our apartment door this morning. Awesome.

Note: Knowing full well I would be completely unable to stand for two days without much pain and whining, I did not even pretend to want to go to the T&G thing. The wife of a friend and I decided that we are quite over shows with no seating available.

One of Kr's friends just started work here, which is cool, but it also means that I am going to have to socialize with her all week because she doesn't know anyone else, instead of keeping to myself as I tend to do. I've only met her twice before, so it's not like we're best buds or anything, although she is nice.

Good afternoon, Chicago.

Things appear a little clearer now, and it seems I will be occupying a smallish slice of your town from Wednesday the 20th, until I fly back to London very early in the morning of Saturday 23rd.

If any of you fancy a pint during that period, that would be aces. Maybe on the Wednesday or Thursday night? I'm housetrained. Relatively.
