btw the first two panic at the disco records are essential tim even though they don't feature trick daddy

okay i'm on it.
Maybe once i've started collating these I will start a 'Tim listens to emo-crossover' thread.
― Tim F, Saturday, 13 April 2013 00:32 (ten years ago) link
nine in the afternoon was awesome too re panic!

"death valley" was the only song i was sort of indifferent toward and now it's enormous

omg @ courtney
― 乒乓, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 21:30 (ten years ago) link
i like how it sounds like she's doing the token Pete screamo rant of the album
― HOOSTEENA/The Steens of God (some dude), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 21:33 (ten years ago) link
The first two tracks have grown on me but so far, this does not click with me anywhere near as much as Folie a Deux. No "Disloyal Order" or "Coffee's for Closers" here. (Admittedly, Folie took a little while to grow on me too.)
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 21:34 (ten years ago) link
that album was super immediate for me. happy to give this one time, though.

it kinda reminds me of the distorted PA shouting off of danger days
― 乒乓, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 21:36 (ten years ago) link
This album kinda reminds me of Marilyn Manson's Mechanical Animals, in a good way.
― Tim F, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 21:44 (ten years ago) link
the drum outro on 'young volcanoes' makes me wish that fall out boy would cover 'monk chant' ... the thought of which is exploding my brain
― 乒乓, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 21:45 (ten years ago) link
I missed out on the brief emo canon tangent above, but I would nominate Midtown's debut as a dark horse candidate
― anonanon, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 22:57 (ten years ago) link
OK, I'm pretty hooked right now. "Young Volcanoes" is the only one I skip. "Alone Together" is pretty great. I'm not sure which R&B artist it reminds me of.

"Alone Together" is pretty great but WTF at skipping "Young Volcanoes".

yes but next is even better: "you know time crawls on while you're waiting for the song to start, so dance alone to the beat of your heart"

i'm still waiting for this album to click, has not really hooked me.

once "miss missing you" kicked in i saw hearts though (evidence upthread)
yeah i might only like 1/2 of this or so but its def clicked - 'phoenix', 'miss missing you' & 'where did the party go' are undeniable jams
― johnny crunch, Friday, 3 May 2013 23:11 (ten years ago) link
"the mighty fall": awesome and funny

"just one yesterday": was so put off by the adele-isms at first but the chorus is deepened necessarily by foxes

yeah that is prob my favorite song so far

the middle hasn't clicked at all yet but first three + last two are all time
― 乒乓, Saturday, 4 May 2013 00:00 (ten years ago) link
the album feels like both an elegy and a paean to losing their youth
― 乒乓, Saturday, 4 May 2013 00:01 (ten years ago) link
"where did the party go", "alone together", "miss missing you" and especially "rat a tat" and "save rock and roll" can stand up with the best stuff of IOH & FAD
some of the other tracks aren't as great but i mean this thing bangs front to back in what feels like 20 minutes
