Yeah that Durant commercial is super weird. My wife is creeped out by it.

I do think the ad would be better if it just ended before the chore part but then it probably wouldn't make it on air

something about the durant ad has creeped me out all season, it feels like it was supposed to be more PG rated but the actress sexed it up or something, there's just something about the way she fixes her stare on him that gives it a weird desperate housewives vibe when durant seems more like he'd rather kick it with the kid building legos

joe smith avatar (agent hibachi), Monday, 22 April 2013 12:32 (eleven years ago) link

also the punch line of gutter-cleaning is weirdly hard to figure out the first time you see it

joe smith avatar (agent hibachi), Monday, 22 April 2013 12:32 (eleven years ago) link

it's kind of unbelievable how good of a fit birdman is for the heat

joe smith avatar (agent hibachi), Monday, 22 April 2013 12:34 (eleven years ago) link

i watched the second half of spurs-lakers on mute because i didn't want to hear mambatweets read aloud

joe smith avatar (agent hibachi), Monday, 22 April 2013 12:35 (eleven years ago) link

it totally feels like it was going for the R vibe!

乒乓, Monday, 22 April 2013 12:37 (eleven years ago) link

i think matt is right that durant is harder to sexualize, hes just talla nd skinny and still looks like an overgrown kid basically

乒乓, Monday, 22 April 2013 12:38 (eleven years ago) link

yeah the one quirky thing about the ad is that durant is not really sexy but that kind of makes me like it more

call all destroyer, Monday, 22 April 2013 12:41 (eleven years ago) link

The fact that she looks like she's about to doodoojump Durant's bones isn't really that creepy; it's just that, normally, the sexual hint usually lingers at the end of the commercial. In this creepfest, she immediately begins to drool, but then the hint is that she's drooling over ... Durant as chore-doer? Like, if they'd just cut out the chores part, it'd be a totally normal commercial. Don't blame Durant for any of the ad's creepfactor

I just had to look it up on YouTube to figure out the product being sold because every time I've seen it I've been too irritated to pay attention! Also isn't there a variation earlier in the season where he's cleaning the bathroom?

If you're curious about an explanation from someone who found the commercial "brief but hilarious," look no further than this very readable, not-at-all-worthless BleacherReport explanation:

Kevin Durant Cleans Gutters, Brings Laughs in New Sprint "Pajamas" Commercial
BY GABE ZALDIVAR (POP CULTURE LEAD WRITER) ON DECEMBER 26, 2012 11,561 reads, 1 comment

Kevin Durant is what happens to good men who get Sprint coverage. If that sounds bizarre, it all becomes clear after watching this brief but hilarious commercial.

A tip of the hat to SportsGrid for spotting this video of the Thunder star in a clever commercial that takes an odd twist right at the end.

It all starts with mom and son kicking it in the kitchen when dear old dad walk in, only, it's not dad.

The father walks in looking like Kevin Durant because he was somehow transformed into the NBA star just by using Sprint's service, allowing for hours and hours of NBA watching.

For a moment, we will go ahead and ignore conundrums like how one turns into Durant or why the mother and son are not more amazed that an NBA star is in their house.

Instead, we will go ahead and enjoy Durant in pajamas that are a few sizes too small and the look on mom's face when she sees her hubby is a new man, literally.

The obvious notion is mom would very much like to do some bad things with her new-found husband, but that all gets extinguished when we see what she had in mind.

Durant and all 6-foot-9 inches of him are cleaning gutters.

I will go ahead and assume mom has some other things for Durant to attend to, like washing dishes and raking leaves.

Come on, Internet. Get your heads out of the gutter.

Think it's more unbelievable that no one picked him up before the Heat. Birdman getting a ring would be one of the small silver linings of a Heat repeat.

Maybe no one wanted to take the risk with his past drug problems and the child porn allegations?

Eh, the drug ban is 7+ seasons ago, and he was 4+ seasons worth of back-on-track bball w/ the Nuggs. Seemed like the kiddiepr0n allegations got sussed out pretty quickly after they were reported, and his nosedive on-court seemed directly related to that. Just thought that the air was probably clear enough at the beginning of the season for someone to give him a shot, esp. as a high-energy player whom you wouldn't have to spend much $$ on. Like, worst case scenario, the team that would've signed him for league minimum could just cut him.

Just think he was such a natural fit on that Nuggs team; would've been nice if it'd continued to work out there. Either way, happy to see him producing somewhere.

xp hahahaha please tell me that's Wade's reaction to Jennings' prediction.

I was pretty impressed by that actually, he could have just swatted it away, but he went the extra mile by being gracious and pretending the Heat would actually have to take it one game at a time and even make an effort to beat the Bucks.

On why he isn't on social media, Spurs Tim Duncan says: "Because I have no desire to tell you what I'm doing."
