Bailed on Instapaper for the superior Pocket a couple months ago.

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 26 April 2013 09:31 (eleven years ago) link

lol

Betaworks, that company that owns Digg now, just bought Instapaper, that app you use to read articles on the bus. This is exciting, because Betaworks has done a very nice job with Digg—but now Instapaper creator Marco Arment will have more time to tweet about his BMW.

Pocket is the better app, Instapaper is the better article parser. Pocket does a shit job sometimes.

stet, Friday, 26 April 2013 10:03 (eleven years ago) link

There is space for both in my life: Pocket is great for all non-text stuff to check later (videos, mp3 embeds, flash doodles) - Instapaper for serious reading.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Friday, 26 April 2013 10:35 (eleven years ago) link

Ack, I use Instapaper every day pretty much. I like that it's not really multi-functional - I don't need it to do other things.

Basically as long as they don't change a thing I'll be happy.

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 26 April 2013 11:53 (eleven years ago) link

ya i dont want videos in my instapaper

we're up all night to get (s1ocki), Friday, 26 April 2013 12:50 (eleven years ago) link

the present app is good & won't be auto-deleted off my phone so it's ok with me if a new v sucks

Euler, Friday, 26 April 2013 12:55 (eleven years ago) link

im the present, the true instapaper

we're up all night to get (s1ocki), Friday, 26 April 2013 13:00 (eleven years ago) link

the app depends on the webserver though, right? so keeping the old app may not help.

caek, Friday, 26 April 2013 13:19 (eleven years ago) link

hmm I guess that's right, damn

was thinking that it just dl'd directly to IPHONE but yeah it goes through the webpage

I can always use reading list!!!!!

Euler, Friday, 26 April 2013 13:20 (eleven years ago) link

Just tried Pocket out of interest. Too much snazz, damnit

Chuck_Tatum, Friday, 26 April 2013 13:27 (eleven years ago) link

luckily the digg owners are known for their impeccable taste, so that's not something instapaper users will have to worry about

Hahahaha yesssssss they have been caught by their own shitty string length calculations. This bug has been the single hardest thing about zing since the start

stet, Friday, 26 April 2013 20:53 (eleven years ago) link

I was going to say, thinking this has anything to do with particular words or phrases is pretty far off

mh, Friday, 26 April 2013 22:49 (eleven years ago) link

i use readability as a browser plugin/app. never tried instapaper, but readability seems fine?

i like the flattening on the podcast app, but i wonder why they need so many people to flatten things.

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 19:06 (eleven years ago) link

totally to the first part of your post

markers, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 19:07 (eleven years ago) link

Too many awful analyst quotes in that one IMO.

schwantz, Wednesday, 1 May 2013 21:20 (eleven years ago) link

i'm just picturing ive in a straw hat in a vineyard gesturing at engineers to take off their shoes and flatten apps with their bare feet. richard attenborough turns to the camera and says, "I spared no expense."

great wallogina (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 11 May 2013 03:26 (eleven years ago) link

guh I had a whole weird thing happen where it wouldn't let me eject my ipod because 'it was in use by another program'... unchecked manual disk use, disabled antivirus, still no go, had to force eject through explorer.

idk man, itunes has been acting funky for a little while now...I dunno if it's upgrades in antivirus software or changes in the itunes behaviour? had some weird interference from the antivirus a while back where i opened up my itunes and it showed like, 30% of my files and they were all saved to the cloud. Mr Veg managed to fix it and then a few weeks later it happened again.

so weird. makes me uneasy.

(sort of pointless replying 3 months later, but…) back @dan some time back, re 27" iMac - sure we calibrated it, broke out our new i1 gear. basically iMac when calibrated is still poor compared to pro units (yes we had an eizo in to compare) and the glossy shine still distracts picking up stuff from around you (behind you!) and it's all totally subverted by brightness controls anyway
