"a) Lived in New Haven during the 80s"

Jeez, I hate to burst Ken's psychic twin bubble, but I wasn't living in New Haven in the 80's. I was living in Connecticut in the 80's though! So, close enough. And I spent a lot of time in New Haven in the 80's. And I do love Mad TV and Jim Thompson and I do have 2 kids. And Wire. I love Wire. I mean, no offense to the Minutemen, but sheesh, no contest for me on that one.

well, you two have that much in common, at least.

xpost, yo

scott, you are dead to me now.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:26 (eighteen years ago) link

This ones easy for me. Adam Crankypants0r.

Aha yes, it's spooky. Too often one will say something obscure and the other will pick up the reference.

Noone (thank god for you guys/girls).

nathalie's baby (stevie nixed), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Let me clarify some more. I wasn't looking for psychic twins - not to insult scott, but I never thought he was mine. Part of my intent in starting this thread was to use it as a place to deposit some of the informational flotsam and jetsam accumulated after spending a lot of time at ILX- to offload, or dememe, if you will, even if the meme is only in your own head. But if you think you found your psychic twin, go ahead and tell us.

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:32 (eighteen years ago) link

You mean that voice in my head isn't you, ken? then who is it? In any case, I will think of you the next time the baby poops on my grandfather's ancient Yale blanket that is on top of the changing table.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:35 (eighteen years ago) link

Haikunym lives in the same town as me and went to undergrad with the tuba player from my band (right?).

Jess and I have similar taste in girls and beats.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:36 (eighteen years ago) link

I think it's Dink Stover calling you from the Great Beyond, scott. You guys don't use those changing mats?

Ken L (Ken L), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:42 (eighteen years ago) link

nabisco and I are both black!

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Dan Perry lives in Boston and I get Boston stations on my t.v.!

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:46 (eighteen years ago) link

Jordan: I only know Eric from my old job, not from college. But it sounds like we're both on the same track re: taste in ladeez, as Jess has always shone a beacon through the wilderness in that regard. (It's times like this week, with the summer fashions everywhere, that I LOVE living in Madison, do you not agree?)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:47 (eighteen years ago) link

i live in north london, did an arts degree, and grew up on the music press: who wants to touch me?

N_RQ, Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:49 (eighteen years ago) link

I hardly know anyone well enough on the list to draw any conclusive parallels, but the first ILX'r to come to mind is Jody (both New Yorkers, both Devo fans). That's about it.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:53 (eighteen years ago) link

If it weren't for his heterosexual life partner Dan, I would be Ned Raggett!

Heheheh. :-) Kate is the goodness.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:56 (eighteen years ago) link

heterosexual life partner

I'm glad to see this term getting circulation.

Yes. Yes, I do.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:59 (eighteen years ago) link

It should be noted that my New Haven roots are deep & strong. My ancestors lived in the New Haven Colony and helped to found the town of Guilford on the Long Island Sound not far from New Haven. This was in the 1600's. But please do not confuse us with the Milford branch of Sewards. Oh, that wouldn't do at all! No relation, you see. Even if they did have the more famous relation (william henry seward - secretary of state under lincoln, etc).

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:01 (eighteen years ago) link

ha, I was just thinking that if anyone it's Jody and Alex, given that intangible native New York-ness. Alex and I both went to private prep schools. And Jody and I both like the Southwest (and other places). But we're all New Yorkers in different ways, I think.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:02 (eighteen years ago) link

Wait a minute, Seward, you been coasting on your family name? OUT OUT! I know you played that Milford branch game when you were a young swinger! "Hey baby, wanna talk to a guy who's related to someone who was almost killed when Lincoln was shot?"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:04 (eighteen years ago) link

"bought alaska for 2 cents an acre, baby. those russians didn't even see him coming. another drink, my pet?"

A lot of ilxors have library related jobs, that's about the only similarity I see, really.

Like almost every other male ILXor, I have testicles!

The Ghost of Needless Shit-stirring (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:10 (eighteen years ago) link

Alex and I both went to private prep schools.

Ummmm....Loyola School is private, but it's not a prep school. "Preparatory", yes, but not a "prep school" in the prestigious sorta sense of the term.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Please don't confuse that with me attempting to assert that "i'm a street kid, hard to the bone, me!" Loyola was fine, but it's a damn far cry from Deerfield or Andover.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:12 (eighteen years ago) link

Dan OTM. And hey, now I'm OTM as well! Spooky.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:14 (eighteen years ago) link

right, I use 'prep' in the same sense (xpost)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:14 (eighteen years ago) link

(tho I thought you went somewhere else)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:14 (eighteen years ago) link

my ancestors also helped to found deerfield. the town and the school. if your last name is ashley then we might have something in common.

I work at the same desk as Michael Jones, although he sits at a jaunty angle. We both have daughters of roughly the same age. Both our wives are ethnically challenged.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:16 (eighteen years ago) link

Nah, high school-wise, I went to Loyola on 83rd street. I did goto grade school at St.David's (home of Robert "Preppy Murderer" Chambers, just a class ahead of me), which sent most of its students off to posh-o prep schools (self excluded, as I wanted to stay in NYC).

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:19 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't know how similar I am to other ILXors

- TV workin' dude
- northern Illinois born-and-raised, Irish and Russian, NYC/upstate NY college educated
- Saint Etienne, Royal Trux, free jazz fan
- six years of high school, the last two at college prep
- allergic to peanuts
- shaved head

what i've noticed in common w/ mike a (again, if he's still here):

(a) born & raised in central NJ
(b) family roots in philadelphia & eastern europe
(c) went to rutgers undergrad (and wrote for the papers there)
(d) spent time at catholic law schools (him, st. louis univ., me, villanova)
(e) love young marble giants and cheesy synth-pop/new wave
(f) non-native NYers who spent time in NYC (though i think that i'm much more ambivalent about NYC -- and NYCers -- than he is)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:31 (eighteen years ago) link

I can't think of anyone, really. Can anyone relate to this -- ?
- Middle-aged, overweight, balding
- Married for a long time, with a nearly grown-up kid
- Strange back-and-forth upbringing between SoCal and Mississippi has left me feeling totally rootless.

Allyzay and I:

a) have the same cat
b) have the same furniture
c) are wildly amused by the same random radio stations discovered by travelling south on the NJ turnpike
d) have a balcony that looks over the river towards Georgetown U. and the National Cathedral
e) have the same mailing address

The rest of you are all from another planet as far as I can tell.

I have a weird set of things in common with Scott Seward: 2 bizarre kids.

Actually, I thought this was going to be a Scott thread because of the title case capitalization. Ken, you also have in common with Scott that you capitalize "A" and "Of" in thread titles.

State geography bee finalists unite! P.S. I have consulted with experts in the field and it turns out the question on which I was eliminated (for a 3rd-place finish) was totally wrong and fucked and my answer was completely correct.
