That "holy shit! what a ride!" one is custom-made for 18-22 year olds who are screwing up their courage to face adult life and who aren't ready yet to admit that it will require them to accept responsibility for more than just having fun.

Dang, the Underground is blunt as hell. The CTA always says something about "medical emergencies" when somebody jumps in front of the train.

Occasionally they say, "Due to activity on the tracks" or something. :(((((((

Actually better judgement is kicking in and saying that cd be a trigger warning for some people, feel free to delete, mods.

In Frankfurt, it's "police activity". Also ILX isn't into that new age trigger shit (I hope).

ok I had to look up wtf a trigger warning is, at first I thought you guys were talking about post-hypnotic "trigger commands" or something like that. So, I don't get how its new-agey a new-agey concept at all... I mean, basically isn't the warning screen that comes up before violent TV shows about "graphic depictions that may disturb some viewers" basically a trigger warning?
If you're gonna shit on something like that you have to call it "PC gone mad!" -- adhering to modern mental health best practices is kinda the opposite of "new agey," tbh...
― a giant death ray seems a bit overkill (Viceroy), Saturday, 4 May 2013 15:25 (ten years ago) link
Self-diagnosed Internet geeks hollering "trigger!!" is not "modern mental health best practices", but that is another thread, I think.

idk, you're assuming a lot there, including self-diagnosis

do you actually have any idea what you're talking about in the slightest or understand that the idea of triggering has been central to understanding PTSD for decades, or do you just like going off on something because you didn't hear about it until tumblr gave you a reason to make fun of it

Re-experiencing Symptoms:Trauma survivors commonly re-experience their traumas. This means that the survivorexperiences again the same mental, emotional, and physical experiences that occurred during orjust after the trauma. These include thinking about the trauma, seeing images of the event, feeling agitated, and having physical sensations like those that occurred during the trauma.Trauma survivors find themselves feeling as if they are in danger, experiencing panic sensations, wanting to escape, getting angry, and thinking about attacking or harming someone else. Becausethey are anxious and physically agitated, they may have trouble sleeping and concentrating. Thesurvivor usually can't control these symptoms or stop them from happening. Mentally reexperiencing the trauma can include:• Upsetting memories such as images or thoughts about the trauma• Feeling as if the trauma is happening again (flashbacks)• Bad dreams and nightmares• Getting upset when reminded about the trauma (by something the person sees, hears, feels, smells, or tastes)• Anxiety or fear, feeling in danger again• Anger or aggressive feelings and feeling the need to defend oneself• Trouble controlling emotions because reminders lead to sudden anxiety, anger, or upset• Trouble concentrating or thinking clearlyPeople also can have physical reactions to trauma reminders such as:• Trouble falling or staying asleep• Feeling agitated and constantly on the lookout for danger• Getting very startled by loud noises or something or someone coming up on you frombehind when you don't expect it• Feeling shaky and sweaty• Having your heart pound or having trouble breathing

how the fuck is that any different, you realize that PTSD survivors are allowed to find each other online and make some protocol for themselves and openly talk about triggers like it's something people should respect and not poke fun at, you know you don't need a doctor's note for that right
― infirm neophytic child (zachlyon), Saturday, 4 May 2013 18:57 (ten years ago) link

Trigger warnings are good. Ptsd trauma is a real thing. I dont understand what youre saying T.W.U... why wouldnt you just take someones word for it if they say something is triggering?
