I can't beat hell. :(
You can't get any more berserker potions other than the 5 that the frog gives you, can you?
― Dan I., Friday, 3 May 2013 05:40 (eleven years ago) link
don't need them for hell, though. hell requires invulnerability
― your holiness, we have an official energy drink (Z S), Friday, 3 May 2013 05:44 (eleven years ago) link
I am also stuck on hell
Right now I am rly into making a shit ton of invulnerabilities and buying a ton of teleport scrolls and beating the dragon over and over bcz you'll spend like 13,000 candies on supplies but then get like 50,000 candies every time you beat the level!
― siouxsan sarandon (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 3 May 2013 05:51 (eleven years ago) link
Feeling like I've hit a wall with this - the dragon just seems impossibly out of my league and I don't seem to have access to anything that will upgrade me in any really useful way. Also feel like the "Frog Fractions" expansiveness/unpredictability has faded a bit, though that's enhanced it as a parody of RPGs and old-school BBS door-game good times. At first it seemed really open-ended, like, oh, there's nothing on the screen, now I have the candy salesman! Now there's a quest mode! Now I'm farming resources! But all those things start to lock together as an actual grinding mechanic, and while there may be more surprises around the corner, there hasn't been anything really crucial in a while, although maybe it's just that I'm underwhelmed by the cauldron.
Another, maybe related challenge - not necessarily a flaw in this, but maybe something to chew on - in these kinds of 'expanding' games, how do you signal the player that a certain thing is a dead end, that there's nothing more to find, that the candy salesman isn't going to offer something new for sale if you only throw enough candy on the ground?
― Doctor Casino, Friday, 3 May 2013 06:14 (eleven years ago) link
yeah, i was stuck on the dragon for a while, it's much too difficult unless you know to use abanana's strategy
i got past hell by spam-clicking healing potions while moving around enough to avoid most of the fights, then invulnerability against the boss. it helps to have the healing item from the previous level and the summoning sword is great for clearing paths in the golem waves.
― chilli, Friday, 3 May 2013 07:16 (eleven years ago) link
i'm with Doctor C more or less, losing interest now, even as the tab sits away in the background stacking up lollipops
― we're up all night to get relegated (Noodle Vague), Friday, 3 May 2013 09:52 (eleven years ago) link
I beat hell. Get a decent amount of HP (500+) and use both hands. Use invulnerability and health potions. Use a seed to heal before the boss, then use invulnerability. Took me a few tries because I kept trying
Now I'm stuck on the developper's (sic) computer.
― abanana, Friday, 3 May 2013 13:05 (eleven years ago) link
...I kept trying to fight the boss before using invulnerability.
― abanana, Friday, 3 May 2013 13:06 (eleven years ago) link
Are there any random item drops in the underwater cave to justify going back there? Besides the candy from the whale, I mean. I just ground back through the damn castle gate again, grabbing the "strong armor" by the skin of my teeth...wondering if I'm missing any other good random item drops from the other rooms.
― Doctor Casino, Friday, 3 May 2013 17:24 (eleven years ago) link
finally beat this stupid game. the last few levels were such drudgery. btw banana it tells you what to do while fighting the dev, theres a trick to it
this is another of those pixelly platformer games but i found it pretty cute:http://iamclaw.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/LMA.swf
― chilli, Friday, 3 May 2013 21:12 (eleven years ago) link
beat it!
― abanana, Saturday, 4 May 2013 01:27 (eleven years ago) link
Yeah after you beat it are you supposed to just leave the browser tab open for hours/days on end to get enough lollis to get the bugs? How do you get lollis faster besides lvl2 bug and candy converter?
― siouxsan sarandon (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 5 May 2013 04:35 (ten years ago) link
i dunno. i lost interest before seeing if there was a level 3 bug. i imagine going back and redoing the final boss would net you a lot of candies though
― chilli, Sunday, 5 May 2013 04:58 (ten years ago) link
So....I beat the devil and...nothing happened? Got some candy but a piddling amount considering what I'm currently generating every few seconds. Is there something I'm missing? The only thing obviously outstanding is that I've never figured out the "beyond the universe" riddle, it's probably something really obvious and I'm a moron but I feel like I've tried everything!
― Doctor Casino, Sunday, 5 May 2013 05:02 (ten years ago) link
oh duh, there's another quest. sorry, it's late!
― Doctor Casino, Sunday, 5 May 2013 05:06 (ten years ago) link
SPOILER
*******************
read the beyond the universe riddle carefully, it contains its own answer
― Rowdy Rathore (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 5 May 2013 08:05 (ten years ago) link
The candy converter bugs out and dumps all the candies into lollipops instantly after a while. Takes an hour or so.
Repeating the final quest will also net you a ton of candies.

― Doctor Casino, Sunday, 5 May 2013 12:43 (ten years ago) link
man so many hp acquired and so many power-ups bought and I don't think I'll ever beat Hell. reaching that "is it worth it" stage.
cute game, though.
― susuwatari teenage riot (a passing spacecadet), Sunday, 5 May 2013 19:50 (ten years ago) link
flaming out on this too, what's the del with beating the dragon? I just die very quickly even with seed / invulnerable, like I barely seem to hit him
― Euler, Sunday, 5 May 2013 20:22 (ten years ago) link
i did invul/teleport scroll/teleport scroll/invul a bunch of times. when you teleport it gives you time for your potion countdown to run out, so you're only hitting the dragon when you're invulnerable.
― Spectrum, Sunday, 5 May 2013 20:33 (ten years ago) link
ah ok
gotta make a bunch of potions then
hmm not sure if I'll bother, but it was fun while it lasted!
― Euler, Sunday, 5 May 2013 20:45 (ten years ago) link
where do you even use the seed? like when you're right up against the dragon? but then don't you just attack the seedI DONT GET IT
― Euler, Sunday, 5 May 2013 21:38 (ten years ago) link
The point of the seed is to slow you down to buy time to use another potion. So you hack away at the dragon in invulnerable mode, teleport away as soon as it wears off, and immediately drop a seed to give yourself time to use a health potion and recharge the meter again to hit the next invulnerability potion right as you return to the dragon. Note that this level has TWO misc item drops, neither from the dragon, so you kind of only want to bother beating the dragon if you've gotten lucky enough to catch both of them.
― Doctor Casino, Sunday, 5 May 2013 21:44 (ten years ago) link
whoa thanks! that clears things up
was getting tired of getting slain after using up honey bunches of potions
― Euler, Sunday, 5 May 2013 21:52 (ten years ago) link
Np. I also recommend (ab)using save/restore so you can try different tactics w/o losing your potion stash each time.
― Doctor Casino, Sunday, 5 May 2013 22:24 (ten years ago) link
hah I had not done any illegal time travel experiments in this game...yet
― Euler, Sunday, 5 May 2013 22:40 (ten years ago) link
B-b-but they give you the save option! It's legal!

don't worry, I love breaking this law

just beat the last two levels after hell, really might give this thing up soon, as there was just no sense of payoff or reward for either of those, and i can't really see any way of tackling the next one
OTOH any game that still has me muttering about it after 2-3 days is probably doing something right
― Doctor Casino, Monday, 6 May 2013 05:01 (ten years ago) link
er, just "two levels after hell," not "last." unfortunately.
Really starting to wonder if i'm missing some gear. The two bottom slots in the third column remain empty and I haven't gotten anything new since the castle keep, I think.
― Doctor Casino, Monday, 6 May 2013 05:02 (ten years ago) link
nah, those slots never fill up i'm afraid
― chilli, Monday, 6 May 2013 05:56 (ten years ago) link
sure they do
― siouxsan sarandon (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 6 May 2013 13:30 (ten years ago) link
wait so are all the boards from the dragon on basically invulnerability + teleport + seed, repeat?
because I'm getting pissed off with the garden. do i just need to repeat these dumb steps again?
― Euler, Monday, 6 May 2013 15:04 (ten years ago) link
never mind, I just needed to get back inside my shell a bit
― Euler, Monday, 6 May 2013 15:16 (ten years ago) link
yo what game are you all going on about?

candies.aniwey.net
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Monday, 6 May 2013 15:40 (ten years ago) link
so I got to the developer once in the developper's computer, but every other time I die without a chance after maybe 30 seconds or so. is there some method to this madness, or is it just random whether you make it through?
― Euler, Monday, 6 May 2013 16:50 (ten years ago) link
ok ignore me again, "figured" this out
― Euler, Monday, 6 May 2013 17:29 (ten years ago) link
thought you were fucking with me at first :)
― shit tie (Jordan), Monday, 6 May 2013 18:09 (ten years ago) link
i got a sword of randomness from the level 5 bug at the end of the game, the one time i was able to afford it. it is quite random. every time i encounter an enemy it adjusts my and their health to basically whatever number. also my player's 'sprite' changes to random characters or nothing at all. i can no longer beat the dev, something i was able to do pretty easily before getting this dumb sword, i just die instantly now. plus at the end of each quest my health is some random number so it takes a long time to recharge.
in summary, i am still enjoying this stupid game somehow.
― sleepingbag, Monday, 6 May 2013 18:24 (ten years ago) link
*not the devil in hell dev, the developer dev. when i press the key it gives him like infinite hp and me 0

uh, spoilers

I had to google how to beat dev computer. It's totally ridic and I don't understand how anyone is supposed to infer or guess how to do it w/o someone else telling them.
― siouxsan sarandon (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 6 May 2013 20:52 (ten years ago) link
i still don't get how to beat the developpers (sic) garden. i realize you're supposed to use the dragon strategy and just use invulnerability/teleport/seed, but as soon as i start the level (and before i can move the mouse from the start button to the invulnerability button) the first flower lowers my HP down to 4, and then i die. ?
― your holiness, we have an official energy drink (Z S), Monday, 6 May 2013 20:55 (ten years ago) link
It drops to 4 no matter what you do; you shouldn't actually die til you hit one of the monsters at the end and you use the inv potion like a second before you reach them and then teleport and seed like a second before it runs out
― siouxsan sarandon (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 6 May 2013 20:57 (ten years ago) link
Twice I have reached 0 hp at the exact same moment as the devil. screw you, game.
(I'm assuming that beating the devil is the last part of Hell but I guess if I ever manage it I'll be like YEAAAHHH and then another banshee will fly at my face and wipe me out)
I am srsly bad at this game, I bet I have like 3-4x the total hitpoints some people here had when they beat hell, but nope. so other people's distress at later levels probably suggests I should just give up now
― susuwatari teenage riot (a passing spacecadet), Monday, 6 May 2013 20:57 (ten years ago) link
I ended up using turtle to beat the garden fwiw, turtle plus teleport
― Euler, Monday, 6 May 2013 20:58 (ten years ago) link
ok ok. it was weird, the first time i beat the castle stairs i didn't get the cauldron or the candy converter, but they showed up after the second time. now it's dragon fun zone.
