Only thing missing from Mr Jones' shot is Vincent and Max.

Wonder who'll get what I'm on about?

not_goodwin, Saturday, 11 May 2013 21:09 (ten years ago) link

I don't get the reference!

(And thank you, emil.y - I think everyone is shining pretty hard on that thread. And some of the visual links are great.)

Michael Jones, Monday, 13 May 2013 09:01 (ten years ago) link

Also wished I'd got in a little earlier today so I could've gone with Richie Hawtin performing beneath a Canadian flag. Leading to all manner of amazing DJ photos from people who actually go out in the evenings!

Come on folks, if I'd known my ugly mug would be up for nearly 24 hours I might've reconsidered. Does anyone have any ladybird pictures?

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 09:50 (ten years ago) link

Excellent, MaresNest!

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 11:32 (ten years ago) link

I was looking for a ladybird, but all I have is a caterpillar and a snail.
They will have to wait.

not_goodwin, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 12:14 (ten years ago) link

Yea, sorry no ladybirds either.

MaresNest, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 12:52 (ten years ago) link

The bunnies top it all off beautifully..!

MaresNest, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 09:15 (ten years ago) link

I had to grab that off FB and put it on Flickr for linking purposes; shows how much I've neglected Flickr over the last 18 months if I didn't put that up at the time!

乒乓, Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:30 (ten years ago) link

Everyone should have one.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 23 May 2013 23:32 (ten years ago) link

You beat me to it.

I no longer have it, I looked at it wrong and it broke. Looking for a decent prime at the moment to go on the 5D that's sitting idle.

not_goodwin, Friday, 24 May 2013 14:18 (ten years ago) link

I love my 85mm 1.8, £300

MaresNest, Friday, 24 May 2013 18:46 (ten years ago) link

You'd recommend in then MaresNest? I was thinking of the 50mm 1.4, how do they compare?

rent, I love that desert shot with the shadows, I want one of them in my stream.
Where and when was this?

not_goodwin, Friday, 24 May 2013 23:45 (ten years ago) link

I have the thifty and am considering upgrading to the 1.4 at the end of the year. I can't truthfully say which is better, these threads may help?

I've seen a few comments about the 85 along the lines of 'Best EF lens in the range, almost as good as an L' etc

MaresNest, Saturday, 25 May 2013 09:22 (ten years ago) link

*tsk* thrifty

MaresNest, Saturday, 25 May 2013 09:22 (ten years ago) link

have just the 1.4 but i never use it wider than f2. i'm moving towards a 35 & 85 or 35 & 100 pair which i feel will cover a better range than 50 & something.

micah, Sunday, 26 May 2013 11:27 (ten years ago) link

i've owned a few 1.4 lenses and even a 1.2 lens at one point but i never used them at 1.4; i think they're good if you fetishize bokeh or you really do find yourself shooting in low light situations a lot. often times the optics are /worse/ than a 1.8 or 2.0 lens since wide aperture lenses require compromises in the lens design.

乒乓, Sunday, 26 May 2013 11:42 (ten years ago) link

like i think the 50 1.8 outperforms the 1.4 and the 1.2 throughout 2-4 or 2-5.6, though it evens out by the time you get to smaller apertures? could be wrong

乒乓, Sunday, 26 May 2013 11:43 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, the 50/1.8 is really good and it's hard to justify the extra cost of the 1.4 beyond build and silent focusing. I don't think there's much difference in image quality.

85/1.8 gets rave notices. I've borrowed the 100/2.0 before and that's marvellously sharp. The non-L primes are the best value Canons, I think. I love my 28/1.8 but I've always used it on a crop-sensor, so it's basically a normal lens. It would be a very different thing on a FF.

Michael Jones, Sunday, 26 May 2013 11:55 (ten years ago) link

I was getting paranoid, someone do as Mr Jones has requested.
