5 is far and away the best one, but all of em have their entertaining qualities. (except for maybe the 4th, which is sort of tedious.)

3 >>> 1, the others kind of suck

乒乓, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 12:54 (ten years ago) link

although i'm not sure if i've ever seen 2

乒乓, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 12:55 (ten years ago) link

i loved five but i have no desire to see the earlier ones. all the backstory I needed came from Vin Diesel either frowning or smiling when other characters appeared on screen.

da croupier, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 13:00 (ten years ago) link

look at you poseurs. i only want to talk to people who like & respect the entire fast and furious saga. 5, 3, 1 (after this a sizeable dropoff) 2, 4 is how i rank them... 4's the weakest but it has a few good moments

turds (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 22 May 2013 18:15 (ten years ago) link

is tokyo drift 3? if so then i mostly agree with that ranking.

Lamp, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 18:18 (ten years ago) link

i might see 3 cuz justin lin obv impressed the right people with it and i've been on team lucas black since american gothic

da croupier, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 18:19 (ten years ago) link

lol apparently black will return in fast and the furious 7

da croupier, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 18:20 (ten years ago) link

In an interview in 'Scoop with Raya', Vin Diesel mentioned that 'Fast 8' may be filmed in Egypt, with a 9th Fast and Furious in Guam.

why not space dude? why not space?

da croupier, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 18:21 (ten years ago) link

Well yeah -- they're going to be the new Star Trek crew, obv.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 18:44 (ten years ago) link

i slept through fast furious and chronicles of riddick but i will be wide awake during any furious/riddick crossover esp if judi dench reappears as a floating elemental that they need to power their cars.

idg what's so good about 5 besides pulling the safe around

乒乓, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 19:51 (ten years ago) link

when the rock's team gets wiped out in slow motion and u see all the pain and anguish in dwayne's eyes.... all those years spent together, and now to never spend time with ur bros ever again... i was feeiln that tho

乒乓, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 19:52 (ten years ago) link

5 was just a zippy, carefree popcorn heist movie with some suitably ridiculous performances and action sequences. Def benefits from the novelty of a franchise's fifth entry being the most successful and (from what I gather) watchable.

da croupier, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 19:59 (ten years ago) link

which one was the one with eccleston as the villain?

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 20:02 (ten years ago) link

as a former high schooler obsessed with cars, i really like 1... 5 was kinda where it jumped the shark by making the transition to general shootout/heist and stopped being about the cool cars... although maybe 4 was like that too. i dont remember much about 4 besides driving thru tunnels

乒乓, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 20:07 (ten years ago) link

i mix up the first one with gone in 60 seconds

Lamp, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 20:08 (ten years ago) link

gone in 60 seconds is totally different because it only fetishizes american muscle

乒乓, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 20:09 (ten years ago) link

not a rice rocket in sight! smh

乒乓, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 20:09 (ten years ago) link

slower & more deliberate too

oh wait I guess he didn't die, at least not according to the Wikipedia plot summary

but yeah, Avatar is what happened to Giovani Ribisi

he played a snivelly drug middle manager in Contraband and co-stars with Seth Green, Martin Mull and Peter Reigert in Dads, Seth MacFarlane's first live-action sitcom production!

da croupier, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 21:05 (ten years ago) link

apparently he was also in Ted

This was fun and far less insulting or annoying than the new Star Trek flick. The Rock is the best.

somebody in my theater screamed for a good 5 seconds in the interval leading up to vin midair bodyslamming michelle into a windshield

乒乓, Sunday, 9 June 2013 12:37 (ten years ago) link

james wan's made two movies i really liked, so im at least curious to see what he does with F&F. lin's done some great work with the franchise but it kinda feels like he's said everything he could with these movies

i wanna be a gabbneb baby (Hungry4Ass), Sunday, 9 June 2013 12:59 (ten years ago) link

i feel like he really hit his stride w/ this one, the flow, timing, interweaving of diff plot elements was perfected, didn't feel as clunky as 5... could be seen as a peak too, walk away before it gets stale

乒乓, Sunday, 9 June 2013 13:05 (ten years ago) link

i thought 5 was a little smoother actually, this one dragged for me at points, wasnt really as involved in what was happening. still a good flickaroo

Within a whisper's breath of being the third highest-grossing film ever worldwide.

Norse Jung (Eric H.), Friday, 12 June 2015 13:35 (eight years ago) link

Yeah, but that gap hasn't been closing by very much over the last few weeks. Firmly entrenched as third in the 'Overseas' though.

I was talking to a friend about a week before it came out, wondering about the financial fate of other seventh films to compare it to: The Dark Knight, Diamonds are Forever, the next Superman vs Batman. Looks like it's outperformed the first two anyway.

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 12 June 2015 14:20 (eight years ago) link

thought for a second there that tokyo drift had somehow become the third-biggest-grossing movie of all time while i wasn't looking

my favourite thing about 7 was lucas black's cameo, which cut seamlessly from his fresh-faced performance in a scene from the original to the current-day lucas black who has apparently aged 25 years since 2006

So they're shooting second unit for the next one in downtown Cleveland, and just announced a ton of street closings right in the middle of the busiest parts of town for the next three weeks. This is just a month prior to the RNC happening downtown. RIP Cleveland.

https://jalopnik.com/tokyo-drift-had-to-hire-a-fall-guy-to-get-arrested-on-s-1844445611

The director explained: “When we went to shoot in Tokyo it’s a very different culture. They don’t give out film permits. We would be setting up a scene and people would just walk right through the set. I had this one guy, I thought he said he was me. I didn’t know what that meant.

“I wanted to shoot in Shibuya, which is the most crowded place in Tokyo. The cops, they’re all so polite, so it takes ten minutes for them to come over and kick you out. They shut us down, I’d gotten all my shots, but I didn’t know they were going to arrest me. Another guy stepped up and said, ‘I’m the director.’ I found out that it was his job to take the fall for me. He went to jail for the night and I’m forever grateful.”
