the moist patch of dough that you find under the pineapple on a pizza is the gastronomic equivalent of lying down on the damp patch after sex

That's why pineapple goes on top.

i think mayonnaise on pizzas is tremendous.

Never in my lifetime did I ever think I would read this sentence.

Mayonnaise makes sense on flammekueches but not on pizzas, no.

was gonna write "disgusting savages," but it's already a poll choice and therefore accurate of anyone who likes this abomination.

is this some british thing where the pineapple goes under the tomato sauce or something?

how's life, Saturday, 25 May 2013 16:57 (eleven years ago) link

a friend of mine has a genuine hatred of mixing fruit in with anything (the sweet and sour world).
raisins in curries, pineapples on pizza etc.
i never thought about the whole concept of this until he ranted at me for an hour re the sheer evilness of such a thing.
personally, ham + pineapple pizza = perfection ...

mark e, Saturday, 25 May 2013 17:00 (eleven years ago) link

xp no - every pizza with pineapple I've seen in the UK has had the pineapple added on top as the last ingredient

go cray cray on my lobster soufflé (snoball), Saturday, 25 May 2013 17:04 (eleven years ago) link

pineapple does tend to displace everything beaneath it though ime

dschinghis kraan (NickB), Saturday, 25 May 2013 17:10 (eleven years ago) link

If the pineapple slices are as thin (or thinner) than the canadian bacon next to it, almost edible. Dole chunks = blow chunks.

Other disgusting-savage ingredients on pizza: sweetcorn, barbecued chicken.

I like big chunks on my pizza.

...and Chinese style chicken on a pizza is really good.

i'm a disgusting savage in that i do like chicken on pizza. almost anything else that isn't "traditional," though, is a non-starter.

i mean -- once i tried a ham-pizza, which i thought would be OK (since other types of swine meat on pizza is OK). maybe the pizzeria just sucked, or they used Oscar Meyer ham or something, but that ham-pizza was one of the most vile things i've ever eaten.

i think mayonnaise on pizzas is tremendous.

this is what happens when otherwise right-thinking societies fail to ban mayonnaise and make the manufacture or use thereof a capital offense

this may have been meant as a joke, but i'm sure that i've seen this.

as Strongo's Neuvo Cuisine as it may be, admittedly.

why are you looking under the toppings

removing the frigging pineapple is why

you know when someone prises apart a custard cream or similar biscuit and then they lick all the filling off that one half and then you see this damp, shiny and somewhat tongue-smoothed cookie-half? this is what you are confronted with once you've pulled that nasty bastard off

i have a vivid memory of visiting still-commie poland as a kid and getting "pizza" off a street stall that literally was just bread with ketchup on top

later on in life i would have a gf that liked to dip her slices in a bit of ketchup on the side. found the vinegar boost hard to resist myself after a while tbh
