I like the direction this thread has taken. I think they all would make him vomit but the whimsical font in the second one would give him an aneurysm. Or maybe not. He was pretty resilient.. living as an ex pat during ww2, coping with personal tragedy etc

I don't have the artistic skills, but if anyone wants to take stab at putting these into a nice comic sans, I'd appreciate it:

The bourgeois want art voluptuous and life ascetic; the reverse would be better.

The act of repulsion must be constantly renewed.

The new is akin to death.

p.s. for the adorno fans, GIS just about any frankfurt school figure plus "quote" or "words of wisdom" and you get some hum-dingers, unfortunately they tend to be like 1600x2000px

Bob Marley Quote # 52: ;Me never believe in marriage that much...marriage is a trap to control me; woman is a coward. Man strong ;

Must be a different Bob Marley.

"Love the life you live. Live the life you love"
-Bob Marley

Bob Marley was a legend and continues to spread good vibes around the world, so why not have a little rasta man to carry around with you at all times?

This amigurumi Jamaican octopus is ready to chill with you, with his dreads, rasta beanie, and herbal cigar! This is a must have for yourself, the hippie in your life, or a Bob Marley fan!

Those questions don't seem so much diagnostic as just taking a history of current complaints.

carl agatha, Thursday, 13 June 2013 20:36 (ten years ago) link

And after you answered all these questions, the medicine person looked thoughtful. Very, very thoughtful. And this was a comfort of sorts.

Aimless, Thursday, 13 June 2013 20:40 (ten years ago) link

yeah that's basically just asking "When did you start to act like a depressed person?"

wouldn't you have to stop singing in order to find comfort in the sweet territory of silence?

I get along with some New Age type people and can see where they are coming from, sometimes, but the glib denial of the reality of depression us just something I can't stand

Treeship, Thursday, 13 June 2013 22:51 (ten years ago) link

Perhaps the worst strain of New Age thought is "you make your own reality and whatever you think is called into being". I well understand the small grain of truth in this aphorism, but it is often applied in a literal-minded and pea-brained way that really sucks. Are you depressed? Just start thinking happier thoughts! Were you raped? You should ask yourself if maybe your thoughts gave off the wrong vibe to the universe and you were, uh, asking for it.

Aimless, Thursday, 13 June 2013 23:03 (ten years ago) link

Yeah exactly. Really couldn't have said it better. I think a lot of that thinking appeals to peoples' desire to believe they have control over every aspect of their life, including their physical health, and while that's understandable enough it is also immature and leads to callousness toward the suffering of others.

Treeship, Thursday, 13 June 2013 23:10 (ten years ago) link

Aimless OTM.

Also anybody who suggests that negative thinking causes cancer sucks and I hate them.
