after you successfully install it is it over?

Mordy , Wednesday, 10 July 2013 22:25 (ten years ago) link

Oh, I liked that. Short and sweet Molyjam entry, not going to change worlds but fun and funny.

ok, when i got that thing to finally work it was awesome. contra + the expendables in a Cave Story-inspired engine, def. voting for it on Greenlight

Nhex, Tuesday, 16 July 2013 05:43 (ten years ago) link

Pretty fun! Strong concept, good sounds and blowing-up. Not sure how I feel about the basic mechanics of how you rotate between bros - seems to constantly happen right when you're getting comfortable with how to play as one of them. Probably would be way more fun if I had a D-pad...the controls are a little slippery. And where are the bosses?!

baaaahahaha, that looks amazing!

I don't think any of Porpentine's interactive fiction games have been posted here, so I want to mention her haunting captivity narrative, Howling Dogs: http://aliendovecote.com/uploads/twine/howling%20dogs.html
Her latest work, ULTRA BUSINESS TYCOON III was posted last night; it starts off as a whimsical parody of mid-90s "edutainment" games, and winds up somewhere more emotionally urgent: http://aliendovecote.com/?p=5360 (There's a detail in the images surrounding the link to the game that's necessary to play to the end.)

one way street, Friday, 19 July 2013 18:52 (ten years ago) link

I find most of Porpentine's work terribly sixth form. She did do one recently that I liked, though, can't remember what it was called right now. I'll give the new one a go.

emil.y, Friday, 19 July 2013 18:56 (ten years ago) link

Also, I hate twine. Hate it hate it hate it.

emil.y, Friday, 19 July 2013 18:56 (ten years ago) link

yeah twine is almost not a game system imo

what makes a man start polls? (Noodle Vague), Friday, 19 July 2013 19:02 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, I find most twine work really amateurish in the pejorative sense, but I usually find Porpentine's writing vivid enough to compensate for the simplicity of her games' mechanics and the weakness of their interactive elements.

one way street, Friday, 19 July 2013 19:09 (ten years ago) link

lol "it's not a game"

bamcquern, Friday, 19 July 2013 23:25 (ten years ago) link

Finished off BroForce, it got more fun as it went on and I got into the swing of it...interesting idea of a game mechanic, that you never get to hold on to one character/ability long, so it's about, at any given moment, with the character you have, solving the challenge you're currently facing knowing what you know about their skills. And on the (too-few) bosses, strategizing your use of the special moves, knowing you get a couple of shots of them and then you need to find another character quick. I could have done without all the "bro" naming, a little too cutesy IMO...and I never did figure out WTF to do with Blade. But overall pretty damned fun.

it seems like every online game of all time has a high score list like that. the only difference is that only one person managed to break this one. usually the entire top ten is filled with hacked scores

Z S, Thursday, 1 August 2013 23:27 (ten years ago) link

This is cute but I find some of the design decisions baffling. Why can't I turn around? Why are there foreground people blocking the view so I can't tell what I'm doing? Why don't I know what score I'm trying to hit?

I dunno, this sort of semi-idle game can be quite fun, but they never have lasting power. Also I spent all evening with it running yesterday and now it's down, so I guess I never will find out if my cookies destroy the world. Probably not, eh.

For TD fans, however, Cursed Treasure have put out a second game. Oh yeah.

42.8, arrrrrgh

Also, I gave Clockwork Cat a go - that is SUPER CUTE. Shame it's so short, but eh, Ludum Dare, what you gonna do...

emil.y, Sunday, 1 September 2013 20:26 (ten years ago) link

Love TD, and the Cursed Treasure 2 game is hella fun. Especially like that one of the towers looks like a TARDIS.

yeah, simple math suggests that 400 million per second is pretty much the cap
