if i ever post about quitting drinking, call the cops because someone has killed me and is acting as my imposter.
the resultant juice is a thick brown slurry. it's tart and salty with a hint of bite from the ginger.

I've juiced for years and tried just about every fruit and vegetable there is. There is probably too much lemon and too much kale for the above recipe to be delicious. I like lemon but it dominates everything if you put in more than a few drops. Best to forget about it and if you want to ingest lemon juice just mix it with water and drink it on it's own. With kale, cabbages etc, you have to accept it's going to make it taste cabbagey. Again, with this stuff I find it's best to not ruin nice carrot, cucumber and celery juice with it. Just juice what you want and neck it with a small glass of apple juice. It won't taste good but you won't spoil a decent tasting juice.

thanks for the thoughts, everything. it did seem like a ton of lemon. i got this juice recipe book and i'm not really sure what its deal is.
in general, juicing books are incredibly depressing. they're all targeted at ppl with horrible medical problems--you open a book and the first thing you read is "juice to aid gout symptoms" and you wonder if this is really such a good idea.
even in the cheerier one i ended up buying, the author has to defeat fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue only so she can later be assaulted by a home invader.

For me, it's about 95% a way to easily eat vegetables like spinach and carrots because otherwise I'd never bother. And yeah, I really like the taste of juice and the fact that it's healthy.
I looked at a few books when I got started but you learn to just do what works for you with what's easily available. Mostly I like carrot, cucumber, spinach, celery, beets (sparingly) and then whatever kind of fruit juice I have in the house. And I never try to make it any particular way - just use what I've got. It's only really worthwhile juicing fruit if you have tons of apples from a tree or something. It gets expensive and they don't yield much juice unless you have a press. So I use supermarket fruit juice mostly.
I sometimes use ginger or garlic or these kinds of things but they make the extractor basket smell so you have to clean it more, and then they don't really taste super-delicious or anything. Well, a small bit of ginger is nice. I save that stuff for when I'm feeling ill.

just put one apple or a some kiwis into your massive load of fresh veg (plus some ginger or mint or whatever) and it'll always taste great.
you won't taste kale or spinach at all once you use a small amount of something sweet. not sure why you'd cut with apple juice when you could juice the apple?
tho if you are using a centrifugal juicer it doesn't really matter as you are killing all the nutrients anyway.

used to juice on the reg at a friend's place, but she moved and took the juicer with her. had some pretty disastrous experiments but for the most part they were so delicious. a good rule of thumb if you want to make something palatable is not to go too crazy with things of different colours like try to keep it within one interval of the spectrum (pear apricot orange canteloupe plum beets; kale kiwi pineapple mango) and--even though it's tempting because they're so juicy--never to put too much of something bland like cucumber or melon

I have read the one problem with juicing is you're letting the juicer do all the digestive work, so you're not getting as much fibre/bulk as you would if you just ate the veg.

lol, otm. juicing is fun and delicious but yes cleaning the thing is a huge pain. also it felt somewhat wasteful to me -- i hated throwing away all that fiber. that said, i really love making soup stocks and that also involves throwing away the fiber.
in general, i prefer smoothies, although the punch of fresh juice that involves cool stuff like ginger or parsley or wheatgrass is special. i should pull out the juicer from time to time.

One day I put the remains of carrot and beet juice under a tree my mother was trying to grow and an hour later it was covered with butterflies. This was summer. Happened every time I threw out the carrots and beets.
