I lived in Nashville for four years, so I'm pretty familiar with it.
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 17 May 2008 22:04 (sixteen years ago) link
It's kind of like an observation chamber from Silence of the Lambs.
omgosh i know. where did you live?
― Surmounter, Saturday, 17 May 2008 22:05 (sixteen years ago) link
I lived east of the airport, on Bell Rd (worked in Mt. Juliet).
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 17 May 2008 22:10 (sixteen years ago) link
so sad you are underage. airport drinking is the best.
― tehresa, Saturday, 17 May 2008 22:31 (sixteen years ago) link
the most interesting characters choose to spend layover time in airport bars. can you go there and order coke?
i agree -- i also just recently discovered plane drinking. not bad at all.
― Surmounter, Saturday, 17 May 2008 23:58 (sixteen years ago) link
i flew on my 21st birthday and got all kinds of free drinks from flight attendants and ppl sitting by me and never even told anyone it was my 21st. totally cosmic.

My turn now. London city, the bar here is very dissapointing, however great to go through somewhere small enough that train-security-bar takes 5 minutes.
― Ed, Sunday, 18 May 2008 15:15 (sixteen years ago) link
that is great
― Surmounter, Sunday, 18 May 2008 15:24 (sixteen years ago) link
Why do bars in british airports suck so much. I would like a pint of say gin and grapefruit juice (preferably a dutch oude jenever but that is pushing it). Est Est Est, garfunkels and wetherspoons are not coming up with the goods.
― Ed, Friday, 23 May 2008 17:53 (fifteen years ago) link
You have got to be kidding. Dunno where you are, but Chavwick is even worse than that. You will be lucky to get lime in your G&T and the gin will be Gordon's.
BTW massive IKEA hassle, 15 minute fight with Computer Says D'oh type first thing this morning. Will mail ya later.
― suzy, Friday, 23 May 2008 17:57 (fifteen years ago) link
I've always wanted to post on this thread.
I'm in an airport - Philadelphia. Soon I'll be in Denver (ANOTHER AIRPORT!) and then Boulder.
― Z S, Sunday, 25 May 2008 13:06 (fifteen years ago) link
Damn, I wish I could join the Drinking at the Airport gang. But it's 9am.

I've never flown Continental before so this is my first experience with LAX's Terminal 6. Not squalid but pretty worn down. On my way to SDF via Houston.
― Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 19 June 2008 06:35 (fifteen years ago) link
IAH is tremendously ugly. Terminals and passageways shoved together out of necessity with no regard to passenger traffic flow. Grafting TSA security checkpoints only magnifies things. Insult to injury: the first thing I see getting off the plane is the Fox News Store followed by a statue of George H W Bush.
On the plus side the breakfast plate special at Harlon's BBQ (eggs, bacon, grits, & biscuits/gravy) was outstanding and cost less than a single beer at LAX.
― Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 19 June 2008 11:24 (fifteen years ago) link
Further insult to injury: the Chautauqua (much-maligned CO feeder carrier) TundraJet you'll be on IAH-SDF.

i will be flying through phoenix on my way to maui in a few weeks... how's that airport?
― tehresa, Thursday, 19 June 2008 16:51 (fifteen years ago) link
Tiny. It's fine though. What airline are you flying that puts you through PHX and not LAX to Maui?

I'm in Cleveland! But soon I won't be.

felicity, i'm flying us air
― tehresa, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:52 (fifteen years ago) link
It's supposed to be rainy as heck here all week, Morbius. We had a hailstorm yesterday. A HAILSTORM.
― Pancakes Hackman, Monday, 23 June 2008 19:53 (fifteen years ago) link
We're supposed to have hail in NY perhaps too. Weather.com describes upcoming CLE storms as "scattered."
As long as they get the Sabathia game in Friday night! (of course I might spontaneously go Thursday night too if Fri looks bad.)
― Dr Morbius, Monday, 23 June 2008 20:18 (fifteen years ago) link
i'm in an airport.
there are slot machines everywhere.
but it's okay, i have a sandwich.
― Mr. Que, Monday, 23 June 2008 20:20 (fifteen years ago) link
Yeah, I lucked out with good weather for my flights today but the Ohio and Cuyahoga Valleys' weather in general has been, how you say, flaky...
Anyway I am now not in an airport and won't be for eight days. Hurrah for Charleston. Train stations, another matter...
― Ned Raggett, Monday, 23 June 2008 20:21 (fifteen years ago) link
Friday, Schmiday. I've got tix for Saturday's game, so I'm holding out for sunshine.

SFO. On the jetway, was in Admirals Club with comp vouchers. It seems like such a ripoff. Who pays for that? Although the bartender did fill up my outside Diet Coke for me.
― felicity, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 03:35 (fifteen years ago) link
I am on an air train. Flight leaves in 50 min. Will I make it? Probably, but I wish it was faster to get here.

JFK airtarain, hell yeah. EWR airtrain, start praying.

JFK. On the plane now! Fuck a window seat for a 5.5 hour flight tho! Claustrophobia ahoy!

A small price to pay, really.

Guys I was stuck with this dude who did not understand seat/space boundaries and also was asleep most of the time then there was turbulence with mandatory seatbelt time and I couldn't get up to pee for like 2 hours and now I'm in phx and it's a pretty shitty. airport. Ticket sez next leg is aisle heaven!

Lol tru but I almost went postal on the dude selling credit cards that wouldn't stop harassing me every time I walked by and then giggling about it with his coworker. Very professional. Joke's on you dude, I'm going to. Hawaii and you're in an airport selling credit cards.

i have 8 hours in the reykjavik airport! it is a decent airport, but not big. i ended up taking a really long walk around the parking lot in circles, pushing my luggage trolley and talking to myself while staring at a weird sculpture on top of a pile of rocks). then i discovered the free wireless. probably could've gone into the city and stored my stuff at the bus station, but i'm preparing for a summer of physical labor with EXTREME SLOTH.
― Maria, Sunday, 29 June 2008 20:49 (fifteen years ago) link
8 hour layover in reijavik airport = trip to the blue lagoon, natural hot springs about half way to the town. You can rent everything, towels etc.
― Ed, Sunday, 29 June 2008 20:59 (fifteen years ago) link
i heard that but i have nowhere to put my luggage, would have to unpack a 21-kilo backpack to find my swimsuit, and don't know where this blue lagoon IS. also, i'm really lazy, and haven't read my archaeological field manual like a good dig volunteer.
― Maria, Sunday, 29 June 2008 22:26 (fifteen years ago) link
go ask someone what it took to get all that wood in the reykjavik airport!

Dealt with someone similar in Denver. A tool, of course.
I was in Phx's airport two days after tehresa, and yet it was not that bad. Wasn't GREAT but wasn't bad.
