Can I just... poor Jeff has born the brunt of my bitching about this particular issue so I just want to let it out elsewhere, but the state of plus size maternity clothes is so dire. Luckily (and only the dire state of plus size maternity wear could me characterize such a thing as "luck") I was so sick for the first five months that I dropped about 25 pounds, which puts me in Target and Old Navy's straight size XXL maternity for dresses and other stretchy knits so I'm not walking around naked. But even though I've been unable to stand anything constricting around my midsection since about week six I'm only now starting to show and need maternity clothes so who knows if those XXLs will work in the coming months.

Anyway, thank goodness I can work from home more or less at my whim because I have two outfits that I think are office appropriate, and the one I'm wearing today makes me feel like Dorothy Zbornak.

I'll keep at that or else I'll never stop typing, but let me just say that "plus size maternity tights" is the thing that is depressing me the most right now.

Man, I'm so sad I'll never be pregnant, I was looking forward to the only time in my life it would be acceptable to let my belly out in public and actually be comfortable.

And let me clarify - shockingly, I'm not having body image issues, which I was worried about (and which may come later, who knows). I actually think I look pretty great. I've lucked out so far in the hormonal sweepstakes pulled the thick hair and good skin and strong nails cards (which again, later? who knows...), which is certainly helping. This is 100% a clothes availability issue.

I have a theory that royals and female politicians and public figures stay so skinny because otherwise you can't wear nice clothes and sit/eat in public, and they have to look like they're not miserable at every single moment.

carl have you tried a belly band? you can wear your normal clothes (pants unbuttoned and unzipped)with it and it covers a bunch o belly

It's not totally practical now bc my wardrobe is 95% dresses or side zip skirts but it's totally a good idea for when elastic waist stuff has to go under the gut.

My fave jeans are actually jeggings or more accurately elastic waist skinny jeans that I had to take in at the waist so I've just let them out and they are totally good for jeans. Hopefully I won't need jeans until November or so. The belly band will be good to get wear out of otherwise too short shirts, too.

You will have excellent pregnancy weather, that's for sure.

I know! That's why I'm heart broken about the lack of tights selection. I'm hoping I can just size up in regular tights.

I have no idea what fat preggos who have no room to size up do. Never go outside?

Carl, are Forever 21 tights an option? They're cheaply made but I know they do have XL+ selection. I forget how tall you are if that's an issue, but they almost hit my ankles, so they're pretty long!

lol no. Their stuff runs small and XL tights wouldn't cut it if I weren't pregnant.

I Love Colors has a robust plus line so fingers crossed their biggest size will accommodate whatever sized watermelon I'm smuggling in later months. Yours Clothing also has sweeeeet 120 denier black tights so I'm crossing my fingers that they'll work.

There's always leggings too, which are available in plus sizes from a few places.

Proper maternity tights have this sweet built in stomach support sling that I'm sad to miss out on as I can already tell that will feel pretty nice as things progress.

I feel bad like I'm asking for suggestions and then pooping on them! I don't mean to do that. I'm not going to be naked. It's just a word of difference from

And let me again acknolwedge my inherently privileged position of 1) being on the smaller end of plus size and being able to size up in non-maternity plus stuff and 2) having money to actually afford new clothes at all! I recognize this is some quid/ag shit, ultimately.

The other one would make a fine dress if the stripes were different colors, I think. And by that I mean death to mauve. But really I am hearing you, the options are p bleak.

this weirdo likes mauve and has at least a couple of mauve tops, but doesn't do white tops/dresses and is suspicious of horizontal stripes (I am fairly sure that "horizontal = fattening, vertical = slimming" thing is BS but it still taunts me when I look at horizontal stripes in the shop so I never buy any), so, still not doing that stripy dress

I used stripes as a gateway drug to white in my wardrobe and now I'll wear every crazy thing. Summer of unemployment has been mostly jorts, leggings as pants(! Inside the house only) & yoga pants though. Skirts seem like too much work for lazing about the house in. You are right, Carl, now that I look again it is a weirdly cut suit but the blue is an A+ weirdo shade for sure. /helpful post
