Three exit, one moves to the writers room, and six come in. Seems crowded, and I wonder if it means Kenan and Jay (and Nasim?) get pushed to the fringes as everyone else tries to out-white each other.

I suspect Bennett will be utilized as the straight man/authority figure in the Hartman/Sudeikis tradition. Of course, I only know him from the commercials, so I could be completely wrong about his demeanor.

I predict that Bennett will steal the 2013-2014 season with a new character named Pantsless Putin

Saturday Night Live's Race Problem

“SNL’s” all-white, predominantly male casting call got some minor criticism, but many defended the decision by arguing that the cast of 16 performers, which currently includes three people of color (and six women), approximately reflects the demographics of a nation in which white people are the majority.

i'm more outraged when i see the writing staff for daily show or colbert, they appear to be 99% white men.

Was talking about this during the Emmy's. Noted that Jimmy Kimmel wins for having a writing staff that actually had considerably larger amounts of women then any of the other late night variety shows up for awards.

This is just the first step in Lorne's plan for an accurate representation of global demographics, along with the advent of SNL Mexico (which, yes, is a real thing that's happening and that I wouldn't even be aware of if people I know hadn't auditioned for the cast). I look forward to SNL Laos and SNL Côte d'Ivoire (the improv scene there is off the hook).

AF mix not only sounded horrible, but was kind of hilarious in that the conga player was apparently playing his ass off, yet no congas could be heard.

These are funny, but I also find them really depressing!

Yeah, they over-corrected on the second song; one conga was awkwardly louder than the other (and nearly everything else in the mix).

I could barely tell any of the new cast members apart, but I loved all the hazing. Drunk Uncle was better than usual, I thought.

Are The Arcade Fire more of a synthy band now? Maybe now I would actually dig them. I liked the lone new wavey song on their last record, "Sprawl 2."

AF worked with James Murphy on the new album, so it's definitely different than they've sounded in the past.

"Sprawl 2" was prob their high point so far I think (though hearing it at every fucking dance party for 6 months kinda killed it)

GIRLS parody was funny, I thought. Airline boarding sketch was simultaneously hacky and hilarious.

Kyle Mooney is so, so funny in those mumbly YouTube clips. (He's on the new Stephen Merchant HBO show Hello Ladies as well (or at least was in the pilot; and he was pretty funny). His 80s stand-up comedian character wasn't so great, but he has done funny character types before...

I thought the Girls thing was rly weak (lol get it it's a poor person from an impoverished country bein all waky) but the airline boarding thing was one of the more clever things I've seen from SNL in quite a while

I liked the GIRLS thing pretty much for the impressions - as another McKinnon fan, her Jessa ("I've gotten so bored of orgies") was very funny.
And though the main gag was pretty obvious, the execution was pretty good.
