i mean, also, the specific shot you are talking about -- where she is laying on the riverbank looking up at the glowing planet -- is amazing. iconic, even, if frederick b. is right and melancholia is destined to become a classic. i have lots and lots of thoughts about this movie but i want to open up the floor to others first.

I love the first half of this movie, the party-scenes. The scene where Kirsten Dunst is sitting all alone on a pile of chairs and rocking her feet should be iconic as well. Parts of the second half are a bit by numbers, I think. But then the final segment brings it all home.

another earth is a great film imo. it doesn't swing for the fences like von trier's recent works, but is possibly more faithful to its characters for that reason. the main actress does a great job at conveying someone who has dealt with the trauma of guilt through dissociation.
